Follow Us:

When I founded New Paradigm Theatre, it was intended to be more than the typical theatres I had worked for (including on Broadway). Education and community service through the performing arts is imbedded in my personal values and mission. I’ve been lucky enough to gather a Board of Directors who also believes in this cutting-edge “new paradigm” for a theatre company.  After our founding in 2011, and producing holiday shows each year, we started adding a summer production in 2016. We call our season of shows and education "Sustainable Harmony".

All of our events and productions reflect the core of our mission. We are well-known for our inventive and edgy productions that are presented with open, multi-generational, color-conscious, and gender-fluid casting. Young people of all abilities participate side-by-side with Broadway pros to create our productions.  Some of our youth have never been on stage before in their lives. Others grow with our program each year.

Another part of our "Template" is that NPT chooses a community “partner nonprofit” that reflects the theme of each summer’s show by accepting and reviewing the applications from social justice nonprofits that feel they “fit the bill”.  For Bye Bye Birdie this meant working with the local Norwalk Chapter of The American Veterans.  For The Hunchback of Notre Dame NPT chose The Connecticut Burns Care Foundation (CBCF), because their Executive Director, Kathy Gerrity, made a strong case a case for young people who are burned being treated the same way the “Hunchback” is treated.

This summer (2021), by Footloose and partnering with Kids Helping Kids, a Stamford-based nonprofit that supports youth-initiated volunteer work we continue to fulfill our mission.  Our Youth Board of Directors have already volunteered for this nonprofit’s events including “Dress Boutique” which provides clothes for local youth.

NPT’s goal is to bridge the gap between the arts and the local community with our educational and performance platforms. Sustainable Harmony accomplishes this objective the best way I know how — using music, theatre and partnership. New Paradigm is a hybrid of professionals, youth, teachers, community members, and nonprofits who see performance as a vehicle for more than just art. We see it as a conduit to teach young people how to become better leaders through this thing we call theater.

I believe our work can be transformative and cathartic for our community. We are honored that you have chosen to support our mission by attending the show today.

Kristin Huffman - Artistic Director
