DIRECTOR's NOTE

When I first picked this play for the Fall Show, I wanted something that was a comedy but with a flair of spooky.  Immediately, this show popped up because let's all face it....wax figures are a bit creepy.  Then, you add in all of the physical humor, and I figured we had a winner! Being a parody of "Night at the Museum," I knew the legacy of Robin Williams and his portrayal of Teddy Roosevlet would live on.  That's what I thought THEN.  Easy, right? WRONG!

What I didn't realize was how very difficult it was going to be to have 32 students on stage, doing stage combat fighting, sword fights, some trying to stay out of the way, others trying to escape while tied up, etc. all at the same time on the "Neverland/Isle set" because of the size of our stage.  Blocking that scene was a nightmare! THEN.....teaching them all stage combat without them smacking each other, to include sword fighting as pirates with actual swords while the outlaws used shotguns and rifles as swords was a bit comical to say the least: Especially watching them try to hold the rifles with one hand (which some did not accomplish), too many people in such a small space, with such physical movement and requirements does not make for an easy task. I think it is safe to say that Act 2, Scene 3 almost killed me!

However, regardless of the issues, regardless of the problems with space, regardless of them memorizing lines and then miraculously forgetting them all and regardless of the blocking, I think the cast rose to the occasion and met my expectations above and beyond.  I am super proud of each and every one of them for working so hard to make it work.

I have been asked several times by the district to move to the High School level and although I have the degrees to teach college as well, I stay with this age group for one reason:  I love watching them discover that they love it, that acting is their passion, and that the theatre is their home. There is nothing more satisfying for me than to see their eyes light up when they finally realize it.  High Schoolers and College age kids already know.  I love being part of the process of the discovery.

So, with that, please watch this fabulous group of students who have discovered their passion and who are learning a little bit of history in the process.

So to you....I offer this suggestion: Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride because its going to get chaotic.

Sincerely,

Kellie Olson

DIRECTOR

*The cast and crew wrote their own bios and submitted them so enjoy their stories in their own words.

Theater has helped her show her true colors through the stage and has allowed her to excel in other areas of social interaction.
MOLLY CATE JOHNSON (Madame Ching)
Molly Cate started to sing when she was 3 and she learned to love musical theater. Every year, she would do chorus. One year, she was Bree from Zombies in a musical. She really liked it and wanted to do more. She kept trying to be in one, but couldn't find the time. In 6th grade, Molly Cate tried out for the basketball team and made it. After the season was over, she wanted to do more singing and acting and less sports.

Lizzie moved the next year, therefore, chould not do the musical. In sixth grade, she tried out but did not try and beacuse she did not care and did not try, she did not make it. As well as theater, Rainey enjoys playing volleyball and piano. A quote that Rainey lives by on the court is "If you wanted a soft serve you should've gone to the Dairy Queen." This is Amelia's second year doing costumes, however, this is her first time doing it alone because last year she had an 8th grader working with her so she is somewhat nervous. Amelia says she is very exsided for this show because no 8th graders can tell her what to do with the costumes so she is going "independent." Amelia hopes for the best in this year's show and wants to say good luck to all.
