Meet the Company
Markayla has been looking forward to this production since the auditions! She has never been cast in a full lead role before and she is eager to perform! Markayla graduated from Lansdowne High School in June 2019, after starring in productions including Shrek the Musical as Humpty Dumpty and Hairspray as Motormouth Maybel. She currently attends CCBC, majoring in Digital Media Production, and is studying for her Associated in Applied Science.
Oz has done summer programs for Center Stage and Spotlighters in Baltimore City. Acting since the age of 12, Oz has been in several productions including Haphazardly Ever After, Hamlet, and High School Musical. Oz auditions as much as possible and includes acting as a daily part of life. Oz aspires to film acting mainly and will do anything to achieve it. A first-year college student, Oz is ready to move to New York to start acting in film.
Lincoln is very excited to be a part of this production. He has performed with CCBC in the past, most recently as an MC in the CCBC Spring Arts Festival. Some of his other favorite roles include Stephen in The Shadow Box at Spotlighters Theatre and Patience in Incredibly Dead with Baltimore Rock Opera Society. When not on stage, Lincoln can be found performing with The Murder Mystery Company.
Carolyn is excited to make her stage debut in Speech and Debate. A native of Tampa, Florida, Carolyn is a pianist/vocalist/composer who is expanding into Theatre. In addition to performing music, she has done background acting work in tv and film projects. Carolyn looks forward to creating a unique niche with her music, literary works and acting. She would like to thank her family for their love and support.
This is Joseph’s second-to-last semester at CCBC. He has had the pleasure of learning theatre through an Introduction to theatre class with Julie Lewis as an instructor, as well as an acting course taught by Zach Hartley. In this production, Joseph plays the role of Solomon’s unnamed civics teacher, and considers it an honor to have had the opportunity to perform live here on campus.
Julie is a Professor, Playwright, Director and Coordinator of the CCBC Theatre Program. She received her BA in Writing Arts and Theatre from SUNY Oswego and her MFA in Playwriting from Brooklyn College. Her original plays include Henry’s Holiday (Winner of the Perishable Theatre’s Women’s Playwriting Festival), Obituary Mambo (Abingdon Theatre, NYC), Plastic Haircut, Three Hundred Out of Hades, Quiver and Sink (Mohawk Valley Community College), and Smolder and an adaptation of Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle (CCBC Essex). Her works have been produced in the Samuel French New Play Festival, Manhattan Theatre Source’s Estrogenius Festival, NYC’s Ensemble Theatre’s Opal Series, and Fitchburg State’s Americulture Festival. Locally, her plays have been produced at The Strand, Glass Mind Theatre, Vagabonds, The Kennedy Center (staged reading) and Fells Point Corner Theatre. Julie’s directing credits include Lysistrata, The Skin of Our Teeth, Marco Polo Sings a Solo, Blithe Spirit, The Maids, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Metamorphoses, Kid Simple: A Radio Play in the Flesh, M. Butterfly, Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom and Pullman, WA, and most recently Suzan Lori-Parks’ Father Comes Home for the Wars. Julie is most proud of the devised work she has created with her students, including War Stories Staged (Winner of the League of Innovations Award) and The Consumables (performed at the KCACTF Region 2 Fringe and Baltimore’s ArtScape). Her devised production of Hamlet Lost/Found was chosen to perform on the main stage of the 2017 KCACTF Region 2 Festival, as well as her production of Waiting for Godot (set in Baltimore), which garnished two National Kennedy Center Awards in 2018.Julie is a 2012 recipient of a Maryland State Arts Council Grant in Playwriting and English Writing Arts Alumni Award in Playwriting, SUNY Oswego, 2013. She directs annually in the CCBC Academic Theatre Program and teaches Script Analysis, Introduction to Theatre and Writing for the Stage.
Miles is honored to be back working in theatre after what's seemed like an eternity. Since 2016, Miles has stage managed/assistant stage managed close to 20 productions throughout the Baltimore area, both academic and community. Favorites include Macbeth (CCBC), Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike (Cockpit in Court), [title of show] (Fells Point Corner Theatre), Catch Me If You Can (DCT), and A Lie of the Mind (Towson University). Miles graduated from CCBC in 2017 with his AA in Design & Production and Towson University in 2019 with his BS in Theatre Arts. He would like to thank Julie, Brad, the cast & crew, and his family & friends, who have been there for him in more ways than one during this process.
Terri is an Assistant Professor in the Performing Arts and Humanities Department at CCBC. She holds a BFA and an MA in Theatre Design and Production from Montclair State University in New Jersey. Professional and regional credits include The Whole Theatre, The Hangar Theatre, and Playwright Horizons in New Jersey and New York. Locally, she has designed sets and/or lights for productions with Cockpit-in-Court Theatre, Phoenix Festival Theatre, and the Baltimore School for the Arts.
Rowan is delighted to return to the CCBC Theatre Department to design costumes for Speech & Debate. A Baltimore local and CCBC alum, Rowan has worked in various roles backstage while pursuing his degree. He would like all the faculty and professors who served as mentors to him over the years.
