The Henchman Family is honored to present Studio East’s closing mainstage show for the 2024-25 season.
Adjacent to the Studio’s mission to provide best-in-class opportunities for students to explore the performing arts, is the tremendous benefit to us, the audience, of experiencing quality, live theater presented by these best-in-class students! Theater often invites us into the space of complicated stories with characters that teach us something about our world, and about ourselves.
And so it is with The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Beloved since its eighteenth century debut, Victor Hugo’s timeless tale beckons the audience to look beyond the surface of each character to see their true nature, motives and intrinsic value. Through the tangled tapestry of Quasimodo, Esmerelda, Captain Phoebus, Frollo and a community often held by rigid traditions, fears and divisions, we can seize the opportunity to see ourselves as their tale unfolds. Through their narratives, we can examine who we are and who we might yet strive to be in a fragmented world that all too often sees our neighbor as ‘the other’. Ultimately, we are welcomed to share in the tragic beauty of Quasimodo’s altruistic love for Esmerelda.
Whether this is your first or 50th Studio East mainstage show…. Welcome home and enjoy the show!
