SYNOPSIS

THE STORYTELLER

A new musical about storytelling, magic, and seasonal affective disorder by Kathleen Mills

In a village at the base of a mountain spring comes every year on the same day, when one storyteller braves the climb and brings a story to the Goddess at the top. It is the coldest winter yet and it looks like spring may not come this year, when two strangers arrive and the world is changed forever.

Our music theatre show explores themes of growing up, community, allyship, friendship and features a very tender queer love story. Only through their community cooperation can these characters conquer their individual fears and the one challenge that plagues them in the story.

In this 1 hr presentation, audience members will experience a magical storyland through dialogue, movement, and song in which they also will participate in. This is a delightful new musical symbolizing many often hidden but common challenges people face and it is appropriate for all ages.

Meet the Company

Luka Lars-Nova (Ana)
Luka Lars-Nova(he/she/they) is thrilled to be stepping into the world of The Storyteller. Born and raised in West End Toronto, Luka is drawn to and energised by the larger than life aspects of musical theatre, as well as their work as a theatre arts educator for youth across the GTA. He is entering his second year in the Honors Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance at Sheridan, where he trains with spectacular educators and peers. Forever too boisterous for ballet, Luka is extremely grateful to her past opportunities, such as Penelope Pennywise in Urinetown, Belle in Beauty & the Beast, and the ample experience her time at Etobicoke School of the Arts had to offer.

As an artist, they are curious and passionate, always excited for their next adventure. As a person, they really like blueberry pancakes, YA fiction and summer markets. Callan loves telling silly stories and is obsessed with shows about female friendship, meaning this show is one they are ecstatic to be a part of. Selected theatre credits include Jo March (Little Women), Roz Keith (9 to 5) and Leaf Coneybear (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). One day, Callan hopes to produce their own original queer musical.
