DIRECTOR'S NOTE

Welcome back to live theatre at CCBC! It is a true honor to be back within a theatre, directing The Underpants.

When I first read this play, it made me smack myself in the forehead thinking of all the times I had acted like these characters. Numerous times in my life, a small gesture from someone catapulted me into rare air. From age 16 to 28, I was a heaping mess of such moments. Heck, I once told a woman I loved her, only to wake up the next morning to think, "Wait, did I really just say that?" But no matter how many times I awoke from these desirous stupors, I always fell right into a new one.

It's pretty hard to find your self-worth when you're looking in the wrong place. This play highlights in a delightful manner how ridiculously quixotic this pattern is. And no matter how far these characters go, there is always a new hope, a new desire to fuel their next folly. I hope as you watch Louise navigate this world, you will find a little piece of your own embarrassing self in her journey.

I also hope you don't slap yourself too hard in the head, as I have watching this show.

Welcome back. And enjoy.

Meet the Company

Darian Grade (Louise Maske)

is a theatre major in her 2nd year at CCBC. She appeared on stage in the CCBC Spring Arts Festival 2021. She is a graduate of the Baltimore School for the Arts, where she performed in Of Gods and Men and worked on the production side for many productions including Pippin, The Nutcracker, and Little Shop of Horrors. This is her first main stage role at CCBC.

Broadus Nesbitt III (Theo Maske)

is back at CCBC Essex! He has appeared in several productions at CCBC, including Play(gue), Our Lady of Kibeho, Argonautika, The Verge, and Father Comes Home from the Wars. He has also appeared in Hamlet with Arena Players. In his spare time you can find him researching what pet he wants to get next (the latest is a tarantula), writing screenplays, shooting photos, and streaming to his twitch.tv community. Ask him after the show how to find him there! After graduating, Broadus plans to start his own arts company.

Shakiara Saunders (Gertrude Deuter)

is in her second year at CCBC Essex. She was last seen performing in the Spring Festival 2021. She was onstage for Our Lady of Kibeho, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. She will be pursuing a career in the arts including acting, writing, and content creation when she graduates.

Francesco Leandri (Frank Versati)

returns to the stage at CCBC Essex after appearing in Frankenstein, Argonautika, and Father Comes Home from the Wars. He is in his third year at CCBC, and plans to attend Towson University when he graduates.

Kevvin Ross (Benjamin Cohen)

has been seen on the CCBC stage in Argonautika and Play(gue), and makes their triumphant return as Cohen in The Underpants. Away from the stage, Kevvin can be found pursuing passion projects and personal hobbies in the arts.

Benjamin McCardell (Klinglehoff)

is a second year theatre major participating in their first production at CCBC. Benjamin has been seen performing in Rock of Ages, Little Red and the Hoods, Miss Electricity, The Harvests, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Guys and Dolls at Carroll Community College, Spring Awakening at Small Town Stars, and The Theory of Relativity at Wildwood Summer Theatre. He would like to thank Regan for her continued love and support.

Destiny Gross (Understudy)

is working on her first production at CCBC. In high school, she appeared in Young Frankenstein, Memphis, and Bring It On! at the Carver Center Theatre Company. She has studied dance for 15 years now and is transitioning those skills to theatre. She is a second year general studies major, and plans to transfer to Grand Valley State University after she finishes her studies at CCBC.

Ashley Mayfield (Understudy)

is in her third year as a theatre major at CCBC. She has appeared in Play(gue), Frankenstein, and the Spring Festival 2021. She would like to thank her dad for his support, and plans to transfer to a four-year school to study musical theatre when she graduates from CCBC.

Damon Krometis (Director)

joined the CCBC faculty in 2019 after spending three years teaching at Emerson College and Roxbury Community College in Boston, MA. He holds a MFA in Directing from Northwestern University and has been directing professionally for nearly 15 years. His work has been seen in New York, London, Chicago, Boston, Washington, DC, and Baltimore. An occasional playwright, his writing has been seen in New York, Baltimore, Chicago, Boston, Louisville, and various universities around the country. He is the former artistic director of Examined Man Theatre and a longtime assistant of famed South African director Yael Farber. Damon is also an avid scholar of participatory theatre techniques, directing, and social change, and his articles have been published in Theatre Topics and on Howlround Theatre Commons (howlround.com). A native of Ellicott City, he is happy to be back in the mid-Atlantic and a part of the CCBC community.

Terri Raulie (Lighting and Scenic Designer)

is an Assistant Professor in the Performing Arts and Humanities Department at CCBC. She holds a BFA and an MA in Theatre Design and Production from Montclair State University in New Jersey.  Professional and regional credits include The Whole Theatre, The Hangar Theatre, and Playwright Horizons in New Jersey and New York.  Locally, she has designed sets and/or lights for productions with Cockpit-in-Court Theatre, Phoenix Festival Theatre, and the Baltimore School for the Arts.

Eva Grove (Costume Designer)

is thrilled to be costuming for the Performing Arts at CCBC having previously costumed for Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre's productions of Avenue Q, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Toward Zero, The Gazebo, and Don't Drink The Water.  Elsewhere onstage, she has been seen in such shows as A Christmas Story, Cabaret, Bridges of Madison County, Evita, and a Helen Hayes-nominated production of A Chorus Line.  Eva was blessed to have traveled the US and Canada in 3 national tours: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Can-Can, and Singin' in the Rain.

Amanda Halcott (Stage Manager)

graduated from CCBC in 2019, and is happy to be back! She received her BA in Theatre Arts from McDaniel College in May.
