Meet the Company
Pat Trudell and her husband are transplants from Virginia. They have 4 grown children and 10 beautiful grandchildren. Pat joined the Calumet Players in 2006 when she played the role of the witch in the Wizard of Oz. Since that time, she has acted in several plays and dabbled at directing. She has been on the board since 2006 and has been the costume mistress since 2008. Pat and Beni, the sewing duo, and Tom her husband have worked tirelessly to maintain the costume department. Pat loves to read, garden, and run sled dogs. Pat and Jerry love the area and are so happy they moved here 16 years ago.
Genevieve Nordmark: has been a teacher at Barkell Elementary school since 2002. She loves reading, hiking, camping, and spending time with her family. Her favorite Calumet Players production was “Sister Act” in which she played a nun and a backup dancer.
David Crowley has appeared in a number of Players’ productions, playing lead roles in Carousel, The Music Man, Camelot, My Fair Lady, Carnival, The Fantastiks, and the Stage Manager in Our town and several other roles. He directed the Players’ productions of Our Town, The King & I and Oklahoma and has designed the lighting for many musicals and plays. He was Director of Plays for the Houghton Middle and High Schools from 2007 to 2020. He was asked in 2020 to start a theater program for the Hancock Schools. He is the former Postmaster of Lake Linden, retired in 2006. He has written three full length plays and a one act play. He writes poetry and has published three children’s books and two poetry collections. He enjoys cooking, baking, and is well known for his popcorn and chocolate chip cookies.
Sarah Manninen lives in Hancock with her husband Roy and her 2.5 year old son Everett. She is a registered nurse that works in surgery at Portage. In her free time she enjoys spending with her family, reading, swimming, being outside, and traveling. She also enjoys singing and is a member of the Copper Country Chorale and acting in plays and musicals for the Calumet Players.
Olivia Torola performed on the Calumet Theater stage numerous times in her youth, but this was her first performance in over 6 years. She has many fond memories of the theater and is very happy to be performing again! Olivia likes to spend time outdoors along the shores of Lake Superior rock picking, hammocking, and star gazing. She is currently working as a medical receptionist at Aspirus.
Rebekka Mikkola is a nurse at the local hospital. She previously performed in two murder mystery dinners with KYP, and has many fond memories of the Calumet Theater from school days. She can be found crocheting, reading in a good sunbeam, or on top of a table at karaoke night.
Jay Maki: As a high school freshman, I had friends in the drama club and thought, " you wouldn't catch me dead doing that!" Sophomore year I find myself as Obie Upslager in "Hillbilly Wedding" and I was hooked. Graduating high school ended my acting career but didn't end the drama bug. After college I started teaching and took over as drama director for Forest Park Schools. After 7 years there I moved to Calumet and took over the drama club at CLK. I directed theater there from 1987 until 2004 doing both the senior class plays and the high school drama club, with a few years of middle school drama club thrown in as well. During that time, I wrote and directed stage adaptations for various movies and books in addition to stock play rentals. "The Walls Have Eyes" has given me my first acting opportunity in over 45 years. In addition to dramatic experience, I have been a part of the Calumet Theatre Companies board of directors and worked as the Technical Director for the Theatre, on and off, for a number of years.
Mariah Maggio is a Colorado native, who transplanted to the UP in 2010. She lives in Calumet with her husband, son and daughter. Mariah is the Patient Experience Coordinator for Aspirus Health, supporting all of the UP’s hospitals and clinics. Mariah came back to the theater-after not having acted in plays or musicals since high school-via the Calumet Players in 2016, for the production of Mary Poppins. She was subsequently in Oklahoma and now The Walls Have Eyes. There’s just something magically energizing about taking part in community theater!
George Wagner has previously worked with the Calumet Players on such wonderful productions as Oklahoma (Ali Hakim) and Treasure Island (John Silver). He was more than happy to return to the unique and stunning stage of the Calumet Theater despite the unique challenges this past year presented. He knows that viewing filmed version of a stage show can never replace the shared experience of a live performance but hopes the viewer can find enjoyment in the nature of the proposition anyway. He looks forward to the opportunity to see you all "in the house" again.
His first time in a Calumet Players production, Tim Booth is new to the stage!
He works for the water company in Calumet and enjoys biking, hiking, camping, spending time with his family, and his dog Ana.
Mike Aubin is one of the original Calumet Players. He was one of the organizers of the organization back in 1979. Since that time he has appeared on stage in various parts. He also has directed many productions. He has worked backstage, designing sets, painting, props, make-up and costuming. Mike is a retired elementary teacher and now works part time as a para-pro for Barkell Elementary School. He is married to his wife Debra and has two children and two grandchildren.
Ginny Hemmer is a clinical social worker for Aspirus at Home in Hancock and volunteers for the Omega House and the Copper Country Recycling Initiative. In her free time, she enjoys puzzles, gardening and playing games with her family. This is her first show with the Players, and she was grateful to have this opportunity.
Bob Wareham: I started with the Players in the production of Anything Goes. I have been in numerous productions and had many roles. My favorite was the production of Mousetrap in which I had the lead as Detective Sargent Trotter. Behind the scenes, I have worked as stage hand, stage manager, on set construction and has served as board member, vice president, and president of the Players. I am married to Betty Antilla. Betty also enjoys being onstage and helping back stage. We live on the lake in Bootjack. Betty and I together have 6 children giving us 12 grandchildren. I retired from the Forest Service the end of 2015 and from the Naval Reserve in 1998. Hobbies, besides the Players, include outdoor activities, grandchildren, computer repair, and spending time with friends and family. I encourage everyone to try their hand at theater, either on or off stage.
