Reitz Theater Receives $300,000 Grant to Fund New Building

Cultural Resources, Incorporated (CRI), the parent organization for the Reitz Theater, has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Connect FM reports.
The grant was given to fund the construction of a new facility next to the current property on Scribner Avenue in DuBois.
"We've seen many changes to our cultural space since we acquired the building back in 1991, but none quite as profound as this opportunity," says Lisa Rutherford, CRI President and founding member. "I am proud, grateful, and blessed to work with such dedicated people and such a supportive community,"
Currently, the space is limited, with all set-building completed on the stage, which allows for little rehearsal space. The new building will provide the theater with a place for set construction, additional rehearsal space, increased show capacity, and accessibility to the stage.
This project has been in the works since 2016.

MTI's Free Musical, ALL TOGETHER NOW, Is Now Available for Licensing

Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) has just announced that theatres around the world can now license All Together Now! - A Global Event Celebrating Local Theatre. This worldwide event celebrates the return of live theatre and allows organizations to locally produce and perform an exclusive musical revue featuring songs from MTI's beloved shows over the weekend of November 12-15, 2021.
MTI's All Together Now! is entirely free-of-charge to license with no royalty or rental fees. Participating organizations may license MTI's All Together Now! as a fundraiser for their theatre and perform it live, live-streamed, or a combination of both over a four-day period from November 12 - 15, 2021.
Licensees will also receive a number of MTI's innovative theatrical resources to help with rehearsals, marketing and performances - all completely free.
"The excitement for All Together Now! among our customers is growing by the day," said Drew Cohen President and CEO of MTI Worldwide. "Our theatre industry colleagues have also been incredibly supportive and we are thrilled to have a growing roster of Partners (listed below) contributing from so many disciplines within the professional theatre community. This is truly a collaborative effort, and we are all extremely excited that any and every type of theatre from schools to the pros has the opportunity to produce MTI's All Together Now! in their communities."
MTI's Chief Operating Officer and Director of Education & Development, John Prignano remarked that, "We've streamlined our licensing process for this special event and there are no restrictions or limits on how many theatres in a particular geographical area can license the revue. Instead, we hope that as many theatres as possible produce the revue on their own, or come together with other organizations in their communities to mount a joint production. We also wanted to give theatres as much creative input as possible. The revue can be presented as a concert-like performance or groups can fully stage, choreograph and costume each song as it is presented in the full version of the show. Theatres are encouraged to feature as diverse a cast as possible, in order to reflect the composition of the entire community. All Together Now! is about bringing people back to the theatre, whether as audience members or cast, crew and musicians. Productions will benefit from a variety of races, genders, abilities, body types, and sizes, so we encourage groups to spread diversity as best they can across all the roles in the production."
BWW REVIEW: The Heartwarming Story Of The Depth Of Human Kindness COME FROM AWAY Reopens In Sydney Post Lockdown

Wednesday 27th October 2021, 7pm, Capitol Theatre
(BroadwayWorld Sydney's Senior Editor Jade Kops also reviewed the June 2021 Sydney Opening Night and 2019 Melbourne Season)
COME FROM AWAY is a story that everyone should see so it is wonderful that the Australian production has had the resilience to withstand the challenges of two COVID-19 induced shutdowns, first during its Melbourne season and most recently during Sydney's 4-month lockdown. Re-opening with a few cast changes, the story of the compassion and welcoming hospitality that the people of Gander showed the 'Plane People' at one of the 21st century's most shocking moments feels even more powerful a third time around.

With the prolonged lockdown it's understandable that there would be some cast changes, particularly with some of the international performers. For the return Sydney season two international performers join the cast as Broadway veteran Dan'yelle Williamson takes over the role of worried mother Hannah and Kansas City native Teddy Trice, previously seen in the Australian tour of THE BOOK OF MORMON, takes on the role of New Yorker Bob. Joe Kosky, recently seen in the Australian tours of SHREK THE MUSICAL and SCHOOL OF ROCK fills Oz's Policeman's cap, Manon Gunderson-Briggs picks up Janice's reporters' microphone and Kat Harrison takes on Bonnie's challenge of dealing with the 19 animals in the diverted planes.
For this return season, it feels as if the timing of the work has been stretched ever so slightly resulting in a greater emotional impact as comic moment and weightier sentiments have that split second longer to land and settle in the mind. It may also contribute to an ease in understanding the accents, ensuring that Irene Sankoff and David Hein's (both Book, Music and Lyrics) lyrics and dialogue are fully appreciated. The new cast blend in seamlessly with the rest of the company, 4 of which have been with the production since Melbourne (Zoe Gertz, Douglas Hansell, Emma Powell and Katrina Retallick though this is the first opportunity that BWW's Senior Editor has had to experience Retallick's performance)
Dan'yelle Williamson tempers Hannah's anguish and fear for her son, a firefighter in New York City, with an acknowledgement of the mother's helplessness as she waits by the phone to give an even more palpable feeling of the heartbreaking foreboding that looms with each unanswered call. Pulling back from the edge of hysterical, Williamson gives Hannah more depth and desperation in her pure tones that pull back into a resignation that she can't do anything as she waits, 2,000 km away from where she needs to be.
Teddy Trice has a perfect comic timing, trusting the silence between observations to allow Bob's New York cynicism to land perfectly as he ponders the unexpected reception he receives, making the character even more endearing. His connection to the audience feels intimate even in the 2,000 seat Capitol Theatre and his facial expressions are brilliant.
Joe Kosky gives Oz a warmth and degree of goofiness and adds even more comedy to the short moment as the Casanova Spanish teacher. Manon Gunderson-Briggs captures Janice's awkward inexperience and feeling of being overwhelmed with the story of the century that the small-town country girl has found herself reporting on her first day at the news station. The adjustment of pace allows Gunderson-Briggs time to react with subtle physical responses to the chaos she's reporting, reinforcing that Janice is trying her best to maintain a professional appearance on camera but equally moved by the situation that is unfolding. Kat Harrison captures Bonnie's passion for animal welfare with sincerity and a liberal dose of humor as she refuses to give up on getting in to tend to the pets and primates being transported, even when husband Doug (Philip Lowe) pleads with her to follow the restrictions the authorities are relaying to him as an air traffic controller. While Harrison has moments where she makes Bonnie's accent even more pronounced, it took a few moments to realize the cat's name was Lyle this time around, she is more emphatic, thereby making sure the character has greater impact.

ONE YEAR ON BROADWAY Out Now From One Small Girl Publishing
One Small Girl Publishing has announced the release of a new book, One Year On Broadway.
One Year on Broadway is the unlikely true story of two musical theater fans whose lives were forever changed by seeing a touring production of Once on This Island in 1992. What they saw that night was a version of their own story played out on the stage and it gave them the courage to fight for their own forbidden love.
Twenty-five years later, by some strange twist of fate, they were led back to the Island where they ignored conventional wisdom, took a leap of faith, and became co-producers of the Tony Award winning Broadway Revival of Once on This Island.
This is their love letter to the musical that gave them more than they ever could have imagined.
