Director's Note

Notes from the Director

I can’t begin to explain to our audiences how gratifying it is to be back in person doing theatre with young people.  Theatre is more than storytelling.  It is problem solving in a community of people where everyone has the same goal.  It is working hard and spending long hours with people on projects that range from making prop wine to building scenery and hanging doors, making fancy hats and tacking up crown molding after just figuring out what that stuff is called!  CLUE has challenged our cast and crew members that have been unable to do in person theatre for two years.  Many of our students had their spring shows canceled in 2020 and are happy just to have a purpose to do theatre again.  As I sat here in the audience Monday evening taking notes on the show, I was struck by how beautiful an art form theatre is: from sets to costumes to young performers taking the stage.  I hope you appreciate the beauty.  More than that, I hope you laugh as much as I have this week.  CLUE is as funny on the stage as it was on the big screen.  As our audience today, you have a big part in this production.  We welcome you and invite you to thoroughly enjoy yourselves!

I am so happy and grateful to work with a community of students and adults who have supported my vision for this show.  Our student leaders: Zoe Bogan (SM) and officers Rania Ashoor, Liam Patterson, Jenny Tran and Paris Devlin ROCK this year.  I'd like to thank Kevin Curry for his help with set and lighting and sound and booster parents for stepping into the many supportive roles. I want to thank the rest of the cast and crew for their willingness to try anything to support each other.  I’m also grateful that colleagues and friends Harley Hopkins and Dr. Redden-Liotta to stream our production live to people at home.

Sincerely,

Beth De Marco

Falls Church High School's Theatre Director

Meet the Company

Sophia

Ensemble Girl (Understudy)
Sophia - Ensemble Girl (Understudy)

Sophia would like to thank Daphne and Stephanie for helping her with practice throughout the Clue rehearsal. This is Sophia’s first time both with the Falls Church performance and being a part of the theatre department. She would like to also thank Mrs. DeMarco for putting up with her busy schedule. She is very excited to be a part of the Clue on Stage Performance with such a supportive and fun group who made this possible.

Chase Carmody (12)

Mr. Boddy
Chase Carmody (12) - Mr. Boddy

The past three years were very difficult for Chase. As an extremely tall child no one could reach his level. Then he met Nathanael, who is also an extremely tall child. He has never made eye contact with someone so well. It’s honestly so overwhelming. But he’s very grateful the second extremely tall child Nathanael is here and upset he will be leaving him next year.

Nathanael Clock (10)

Mr. Wadsworth
Nathanael Clock (10) - Mr. Wadsworth

Nathanael would like to thank Mrs. DeMarco for allowing him to participate in this show. This is Nathanael’s fourth Falls Church performance, the first three being cast for Invisible Man and Seedfolks, and the third being crew for You’re a good Man Charlie Brown. He also gives thanks to the cast and crew, especially those that came to the set builds who worked very hard.

McKenna Cobb (9)

Miss Scarlet
McKenna Cobb (9) - Miss Scarlet

McKenna would like to thank Mrs. DeMarco for giving her the opportunity to have such an important role in her first Falls Church performance. She also thanks Rania and Zoe for putting their blood, sweat, and tears into this show. She came to every Saturday set building day and rehearsal with her ginormous muscles and tall build, ready to get work done. But nevertheless, she was just happy to be involved with these amazing people.

Monty Deitz (10)

Unexpected Cop
Monty Deitz (10) - Unexpected Cop

Monty Deitz is very excited and happy to be a part of FCHS production of Clue. They would also like to bring attention to the other cast members and crew members for working so hard to put this show together. Everyone is truly amazing, and they are very proud of everyone. They would also like to thank everyone for respecting their name and pronouns and making them feel like they are a part of a huge nerdy theater family.

Paris Devlin (12)

Mrs. White
Paris Devlin (12) - Mrs. White

Let me tell you about Paris Devlin. Paris Devlin is the hottest, smartest, coolest, most interesting, extraordinary, showstopping person this department has ever had. We are all very lucky to have her not only play Mrs. White but be our kick ass Lead MUA. We bow down to the all-powerful goddess that is Paris Devlin. We’re sacrificing a baby for her at the cast party because she’s that amazing. - Rania

Damla

Yvette
Damla - Yvette

Daphne is very happy to be a part of the Clue family onstage and backstage for her first-time experience. It’s so fun to see how this show comes together with everyone’s hard work. She would like to thank all tech crew and cast for their support and awesome hard work from their full heart. She also thanks Ms. DeMarco for giving her an amazing opportunity to be in part of this funny Clue family.

Leslie Fon (9)

Mrs. White (Understudy)
Leslie Fon (9) - Mrs. White (Understudy)

Leslie originally wasn’t planning on auditioning for Clue but she is very glad she did. She would like to thank Mrs. DeMarco and everyone in the cast and crew for working extremely hard. She would also like to thank her parents for helping with the sets and costumes.

Phyllislin

Mrs. Peacock (Understudy)
Phyllislin - Mrs. Peacock (Understudy)

Dereon is very excited to be a part of Clue this year as this is his first show! He would like to thank all the actors who have supported him throughout the show. He is very excited to continue acting in various shows with Mrs. DeMarco for the next 4 years!

Lucia Ku (12)

Mrs. Peacock, Clue Trailer Director
Lucia Ku (12) - Mrs. Peacock, Clue Trailer Director

Lucia has worked under Ms. DeMarco for almost ten years, most recently in the shows The Pajama Game, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Invisible Man, Seedfolks, and You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.  When not sweating profusely onstage, she can be seen making original music, some of which is on Spotify.  She is so proud of everyone and gives many thanks to the whole cast and crew for being so freaking fun, her family for humoring her hectic schedule, and of course Ms. DeMarco herself for conceiving the whole idea.

Diego Mahon-Santos (9)

Motorist/Chief of Police
Diego Mahon-Santos (9) - Motorist/Chief of Police

Diego is very excited to have a role in this year's play! He would like to thank the stage manager for reminding him what rehearsals he needs to be at. Also, to all the support the cast has given him as it is his first, but not last show at Falls Church.

Stephanie

Ensemble Girl
Stephanie - Ensemble Girl

Stephanie would first like to thank her friend Gaby, for encouraging her to audition. She is extremely thrilled to be a part of the Clue crew, even though it is only her first time/year being a part of a theatre department. She is super grateful for not only Mrs. DeMarco, but everyone who is able to make Clue possible. This is something Stephanie will never forget and will always cherish.

Adli Nashashibi (11)

Mr. Plum
Adli Nashashibi (11) - Mr. Plum

Adli would like to thank the crew and cast for the amazing time and fun we all had together, the crew was always fun to help work with even when you wanted to relax, and the cast always kept the mood up even when we were all tired from work or school.

Luis Silva (11)

Colonel Mustard (Understudy)
Luis Silva (11) - Colonel Mustard (Understudy)

This is Luis’s third production at Falls Church and would like to thank the cast and crew for doing such a great and hard work and Mrs. DeMarco for casting him and doing the best she can for the theater department. We all went through a hard time and he is glad most of it’s over. He can’t wait for the next show that Mrs. DeMarco is going to cast him in 100% no matter what *wink*.

Lam Vu (10)

Mr. Green
Lam Vu (10) - Mr. Green

Lam is very excited to perform his first in person performance with Falls Church. You may have heard him act in Invisible Man and Seedfolks last year. He would like to thank the memory of Trip Jones because the other cast members do not know who he was.

Collin White (10)

Colonel Mustard
Collin White (10) - Colonel Mustard

This has been Collin’s first theatre production that he’s been a part of, save for being a tree in a play that happened many years ago. It’s been a big learning experience for him, and he’s loved every part of it. He’d like to thank the cast, crew, and Mrs. DeMarco for being an amazing and friendly group of people to be around. He can’t imagine a better group of people for all this.

Rania Ashoor (12) - Head Tech, Paint Cult Leader, Running Crew Chief, Director of Second Clue Trailer

Rania would like to take their limited 75 words to thank the amazing cast and crew for all their hard work and dedication. They have been extremely adaptable to all the issues being thrown at them, have come in with such amazing attitudes, and are super willing to learn. They are honored to be a part of this production with these incredible kids. But they won’t, because being emotional is for chumps. Forget them kids.

Noor Ashoor (9)

Set, sound
Noor Ashoor (9) - Set, sound

Noor made the dumb decision to let their sibling write their bio for them. They are definitely going to get 75 words of admiration, graciousness, and happiness in this. Rania was very excited when Noor decided to join theater (definitely not because Rania was playing God and trying to help make Noor more friends). They have been an excellent support for Scar and a wonderful set minion. Rania is glad Noor is in the department and hopes they stay.

Caitlyn 'Kay Kay' Baker (9)

Set
Caitlyn 'Kay Kay' Baker (9) - Set

Scar Emmerson (9)

Set, Running Crew Chief
Scar Emmerson (9) - Set, Running Crew Chief

For this to be Scar's first time ever working on a theater production, it has gone surprisingly well. They have enjoyed almost all of it despite their many mistakes and failures. They would like to give a tremendous thank you to everyone and especially their head techs who have saved and helped them countless times. They are truly grateful for the experience and opportunity.

Marin Gueria (9)

Paint Cult

She would like to thank Rania, Zoe, and Mrs. De Marco for working so hard and doing such a great job on directing and running the show, Ms. Whitney for helping so much with costumes, and her parents for driving her, dropping things off, and being a big help overall.

Chengna Lin (9)

Paint Cult, Costumes

Maia McAllister (9)

Miguel Montes-Portillo (12)

Set, Lighting Crew
Miguel Montes-Portillo (12) - Set, Lighting Crew

Cristina Nguyen (9)

Publicity, Set
Cristina Nguyen (9) - Publicity, Set

Cristina (Cris) was eager to be working backstage in school productions again after the long and hard year beforehand. She would also like to thank the Spotlight Theater Community and Clue cast for allowing her to experience backstage production in a high school setting. It was a very enjoyable and informative journey to be able to have.

Vi Vy Nguyen (9)

Vi Vy is very excited to be helping with set build this year. She would like to thank her friends for giving her company during the long hours of set builds.

Liam Patterson (12)

Head Tech
Liam Patterson (12) - Head Tech

Liam would like to express his utmost gratitude to Rania Ashoor. Rania has been very forgiving of his tardiness and absence, lack of organizational skills, and general idiocy. Rania works too hard to deal with his shortcomings and he greatly appreciates that they try.

Liza Plis (9)

Costumes
Liza Plis (9) - Costumes

This has been Liza’s first production with FCHS, and she has enjoyed every part of it. She is eternally grateful to Mrs. Whitney and Mrs. Fon for dealing with the costume department’s antics. A big thank you to Zoe, who let Liza in when she was late to every single tech meet without fail. She thinks she has lost approximately 400 straight pins and stabbed herself with them more times than she can count. Oops.

Max Purtill (9)

Paint Cult
Max Purtill (9) - Paint Cult

Max would like to firstly thank Rania, they are always working so hard. Rania is the best cult leader he knows. Max has had so much fun painting and then painting over what he just painted and then re-painting. Jokes aside he has had the best time and has enjoyed working with everyone to create this amazing play!

Julie Roeung (9)

Prop Master
Julie Roeung (9) - Prop Master

Even though this is Julie’s first year doing tech crew, she really enjoys working onset with the cast. She has learned many new things, like learning the ability to build somewhat properly, even though she most definitely thinks she has a slight disadvantage due to her shortness. Julie would like to shout out all the parents, friends and families coming to support her and the show. She will also gladly accept any free food to her offering.

Alice Rojas - Perez (9)

Set
Alice Rojas - Perez (9) - Set

This is Alice’s first show in FCHS, and she was very excited to be in crew. She has had some struggles but has gotten the hang of fearing Rania and of course the completely safe wall of wood that would almost fall on her every week. In all seriousness, Alice has had such an amazing time working with all of the cast, crew, etc. Alice would like to thank all of the people who gave up Saturdays to work and most of all thank you gravity for not pushing the wall of wood too far.

Pearl Tanaboriboon (11)
