Ted SchuckHi, my name is Mr. Schuck and I love musical theatre. I used to perform in music recitals and choirs when I was a young lad. Now that I am older I like to run musical events so that others can perform too. I have been involved with musicals, concerts and theatre most of my life. I am an o.k singer but I really like to play the piano and organ. My family at home is musical too. I am excited for our production of Beauty and the Beast. I can’t wait to see everything come together. When I am not working on a musical event I teach Kindergarten which I also like very much. Outside of school, I like to watch car racing, eat cheeseburgers and drink Coke. Life’s a musical journey. Sometimes the music is too loud or too fast, sometimes it's too soft or too slow but most times, the music is just awesome. Good luck to all of the cast and crew. You are superstars! |
Katy RovedaHello! My name is Ms. Roveda and I teach Grade 1 and Empower. I love music, dancing, and going to see musicals in Toronto! When I was in high school, I performed in fun shows like The Fantasticks, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Bye Bye Birdie. I also played the French horn and percussion in band. I studied dance at York University, during which time I performed as a singer and dancer in a show called Southern Nights. I then became part of a singing trio that was also called Southern Nights! Your guardians may have seen us perform at Johnny Bistro in Markham, or Georgian Downs! I am thrilled to be a part of facilitating GPS on Broadway, and love that I am able to help provide students with the same magical experiences I had as a student. Although the performance is what we work toward, the journey to get here is where the magic happens. Enjoy the show, and hold onto those memories ❤️ |
Amy SchreiberHi, my name is Mrs. Schreiber, and I have loved musical theatre for as long as I can remember. From watching and singing along to productions to performing in summer musicals at camp, theatre has always been a big part of my life. Now, I continue to follow that passion by helping run musical events so that students can discover the joy of performing and explore their artistic interests. I’m so excited about our production of Beauty and the Beast! Everyone has worked incredibly hard, and I can’t wait to see all that effort and talent come to life on stage. When I’m not working on a musical, I teach Grade 7 and coach several sports teams here at Greensborough. Outside of school, I enjoy cooking, spending time outdoors, and getting together with friends and family. Watching these young performers grow in confidence, creativity, and community is the true magic of theatre. This stage isn’t just where they perform—it’s where they find their voice. To our cast and crew: thank you for sharing your passion, your joy, and your spark. Keep shining—you’ve brought this stage to life. |
Sherri KovacsI first fell in love with theatre at age 11 when I took an after school drama class and performed in a community theatre production of the musical Oliver. In my teenage years I spent all of my time outside of school doing community theatre, acting on stage, and being a stage manager for productions at Markham Theatre. Once high school was over, I went on to study theatre at York University focussing on backstage production. I love the energy and excitement of being part of a show and collaborating with a team of people all working towards the same goal. It has been a great privilege to work with this talented GPS cast, crew, and staff who have worked on this show. It’s truly been a tremendous joy! On with the show! |
Shannon GreenHello! I am Ms. Green. I am passionate about the visual arts. I like to draw, paint, take photographs, and make prints. I enjoy visiting galleries and taking art classes. I love to teach art. I especially love to give my students opportunities to explore new art forms, like print-making--my personal favourite! Of course, I also teach Grade 4 here at GPS. When I am not teaching or chasing after my very busy five year-old son, I like to curl up with a good book or putter around in my garden. It has been so exciting being a part behind the scenes of yet another fabulous GPS on Broadway production. It has been a wonderful way to get to know more of our amazing students. I have been awed by the talent and dedication of everyone involved, but particularly that of our small, but mighty set design crew. A huge thank you to all the members of the crew who have worked so hard on the backdrops! They are works of art worthy of being hung up on permanent display. A job well done! |
Brenda YoungMy name is Mrs. Young, a Grade 1/2 teacher at GPS and I’m excited to be helping with this amazing musical. In my free time I like to sew and make crafts so I’m glad to be putting these skills to use with the talented set design team. It's wonderful to see so many students participating in this musical in a variety of different roles. “Teamwork makes the dream work” as the saying goes! Bravo to everyone for their hard work and dedication! |
Cheryl WongHi, my name is Mme Wong, and I love being creative. When I was in elementary school, I took dance lessons and played the piano and violin. However, after taking a drawing class when I was 13, I began to focus more on visual arts. When I was in university, I spent my summers running an art program at a summer camp and working for a children’s theatre company doing set design. Outside of school, I enjoy watching baseball, baking, and spending time with my family. I have had so much fun working with all of the talented artists on the set design team this year, and can’t wait to see the performance |
Director's Message
Director’s Message
Before this current school year began I had a vision for the students of Greensborough PS to once again share their talents and perform a musical that will captivate an audience. Based on previous year’s musicals, I knew that we had a cast that will dance, sing and act into the hearts of all who watch them on stage. The next step was to reassemble our extremely highly talented production team. The producers of this show agreed to join me on this crazy journey. I don’t think they knew exactly what they signed up for last August but I am glad that they did. I am in awe of their dedication and professionalism and I am fortunate to work alongside a selfless team.
The story of Beauty and the Beast (BATB) takes on many twists and turns. It is a historical look back at an 18th century village in France. It is a romance, a comedy and a statement on social justice. BATB Jr. is adapted for school age children to learn about right from wrong, fear from forgiveness and about accepting who we are and who others are. It helps us to look deep inside ourselves and challenge us to decide who do we want to be. The gorgeous imagery of the sets, the elaborate and historically based costumes, the inspirational music and of course our talented cast bring those messages alive throughout the musical.
This production is the result of dozens of volunteers. I am humbled by the enormous outpouring of goodwill and selflessness every department in the school demonstrated in order to help make this production a success for the students of Greensborough. This was a K to gr. 8 production. Thank you for taking on many very daunting tasks all on your free time.
To the parents. You have been supportive of your sons and daughters for the past 7 months. Thank you for practicing songs with them, rehearsing lines, working on costumes and all the other tasks you did week after week. Most importantly, you helped build their confidence. When the Beast was feeling his worst, Belle came along and built him back up. Beast turned back into a prince.
Backstage crew, you are the backbone to this production. You lurk in the shadows but silently support the ones in the light. Thank you.
To the cast, you started this journey back in November 2024. Auditions were held for two full weeks in December and then you committed to learning new audition material for Callbacks in January. You have been enthusiastic, committed and an absolute pleasure to work with. Thank you for coming to a billion rehearsals and for balancing your activities outside of school such as hockey, dance, vocal classes etc. in order to help tell our story. All the applause you hear from the audience is well deserved. Bravo!
I hope that everyone enjoys this theatrical production of BATB Jr. and that you continue to find joy in the arts.
On with the show!
