Jaime Cesar

Jaime Cesar is a theatre performer, singer/songwriter, and scientist. For his role in “Static, a party girl’s memoir” (Inside Out Theatre and Chromatic Theatre), Jaime received a Betty Mitchell Award in 2025. Other theatre projects include “The House of Bernarda Alba” (Sage Theatre), “The SpongeBob Musical” (StoryBook Theatre), and “Por los que tuvieron que partir” (Hispanic Arts). Jaime has also ventured into playwrighting with Verb Theatre and Sage Theatre. Jaime has performed with RAW Artists Canada, Youth Singers of Calgary, and Cantares Foundation; his songs are available for streaming. Mariana Romero

Actress | Director | Theatre Educator | Movement Artist Mariana Romero is a Mexican-born actress, director, and theatre educator whose work is deeply rooted in the language of movement. With over 15 years of experience in the performing arts, she has explored the expressive potential of the body to tell stories that connect, heal, and transform. Born and raised in Mexico City, Mariana earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Acting from the National Center of the Arts (INBA). Her theatre journey began at age 15 when she joined a community theatre group led by renowned director Sandra Félix, who ignited her passion for storytelling, silence, and the art of precision. Since immigrating to Canada in 2019, Mariana has continued to expand her creative horizons. In 2020, she was invited to participate in Uprooted, where she presented her original piece INWARD—a performance inspired by stardust and the spiral of life. She is the Director of the Body Awareness Laboratory in Calgary, Alberta, and a Calgary Arts Development recipient (2022–2023). Mariana is also a certified 200-hour Yoga Teacher Trainer (Calgary, 2022), integrating mindfulness and physical awareness into her artistic practice. Originaria de la Ciudad de México, Mariana obtuvo su Licenciatura en Actuación en el Centro Nacional de las Artes (INBA). Su camino teatral comenzó a los 15 años, cuando se unió a un grupo de teatro comunitario dirigido por la reconocida directora Sandra Félix, quien despertó en ella la pasión por la narración, el silencio y el arte del detalle. Amelí Peréira

Ameli is an engineer and an artist that from a young age studied and explored various art forms, focusing in Venezuelan Folkloric Ballet, and acting. She has taken on various performing roles, including an actor and choreographer since 2015 in the group Gato Negro Spanish Theatre in Calgary. Ameli has performed for music videos, theatre groups, and as a supporting lead for films. Through her work, Ameli wants to continue showing that the arts are bridges with no boundaries, creating a shared experience of beauty and understanding that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers. She is a multitalented and creative performer capable of a wide range of emotions. Ameli es ingeniera y artista que, desde muy joven, estudió y exploró diversas formas de arte, enfocándose en el Ballet Folclórico Venezolano y la actuación. Desde 2015 ha desempeñado varios roles escénicos, incluyendo actriz y coreógrafa, dentro del grupo Gato Negro Spanish Theatre en Calgary. Ameli ha participado en videos musicales, grupos de teatro y como actriz de reparto en películas. Miguel Zárate

Miguel Zárate, born in Los Teques, Venezuela, is a devoted father and husband, as well as a mechanical professional with a deep passion for music. From a young age, he began playing the cuatro, the traditional four-string Venezuelan instrument, marking the beginning of a lifelong dedication to the art of music. In recent years, Miguel has focused on expanding his musical knowledge and skills, aiming to push the boundaries of the cuatro and explore new forms of artistic expression. A versatile artist, he not only masters the cuatro, but also the ukulele, cuatro bajado, and bongos. His musical repertoire is broad and diverse, encompassing traditional Venezuelan and Latin American genres, as well as boleros, Venezuelan merengues, and waltzes. In addition to his solo performances, Miguel is also a singer and has recently ventured into live musical accompaniment for theatrical productions. On this occasion, he makes his debut as an actor, showcasing a new side of his talent and reaffirming his commitment to exploration and artistic growth. Miguel Zárate, nacido en Los Teques, Venezuela, es un padre y esposo dedicado, además de un profesional en el área mecánica con una profunda pasión por la música. Desde muy joven comenzó a tocar el cuatro, el tradicional instrumento venezolano de cuatro cuerdas, lo que marcó el inicio de una vida entera dedicada al arte musical. En los últimos años, Miguel se ha enfocado en ampliar sus conocimientos y habilidades musicales, con el propósito de llevar el cuatro más allá de sus límites tradicionales y explorar nuevas formas de expresión artística. Artista versátil, no solo domina el cuatro, sino también el ukelele, el cuatro bajado y los bongós. Su repertorio musical es amplio y diverso, abarcando géneros tradicionales venezolanos y latinoamericanos, así como boleros, merengues venezolanos y valses venezolanos. Además de sus interpretaciones como solista, Miguel también es cantante y recientemente ha incursionado en el acompañamiento musical en vivo para producciones teatrales. Mariana Márquez

Mariana is a Venezuelan- Canadian performing artist who began her career in Calgary in 2014 and co- founded the ExpresARTe Theatre Club, a non profit organization promoting Latin American Art. ExpresARTe is celebrating ten years bringing Latin American Art to the city of Calgary . Mariana has served multiple terms as President of ExpresARTe and has been participating in different plays as an actress and as Assistant director , continuously developing her skills through workshops. As an immigrant , mother, and artist Mariana seeks projects that reflects her culture, vision, and women’s role in society. She is currently co-directing ExpresARTe’s new production “Ecos of the Wild”. Mariana es una artista Venezolana-Canadiense que comenzó su carrera en Calgary en el año 2014, es también una de las fundadora del Club de Teatro ExpresARTe, una asociación sin fines de lucro que promueve el Arte Latinoamericano . Este año celebra su décimo aniversario de labor ininterrumpida. Mariana ha sido varias veces presidenta de ExpresARTe, así como también ha tenido diferentes roles como actriz y Asistente de Producción. Su pasión por el teatro la ha llevado a continuar desarrollando su formación a través de diferentes cursos. Como inmigrante , madre y artista Mariana está en la búsqueda de nuevos proyectos que reflejen su cultura y el papel de la mujer en la sociedad. Actualmente , es una de las directoras de la obra “ Ecos de lo Salvaje”, el último proyecto de ExpresARTe.

Geraldine Fuenmayor

Geraldine Fuenmayor (Playwright and Director) Geraldine Fuenmayor is a versatile Venezuelan-Canadian theatre artist who is also a playwright, actor, and director. Since 2015, she has been an active member of ExpresArte Theatre Club, where she began her directorial journey while also showcasing her acting talents in several productions. In 2023, Geraldine completed her first theatre script, “Tuberose, Ginger and Other Essences,” developed under the mentorship of the Filmmaker and Playwright Ignacio Marquez, the Alberta Playwrights’ Network and Handsome Alice. In 2021, she wrote and performed “In and Out of the Closet” for the Uprooted program of Handsome Alice Theatre, which evolved into the script “Surviving My Queer Immigration” currently under development. In 2022, she further honed her craft by developing the first act of “Armonía” with Cahoots Theatre’s “Hot House Crossing” playwright unit for immigrants and refugees. Deeply influenced by her Venezuelan and Caribbean heritage, Geraldine’s work delves into themes of diversity, identity, inclusion, resilience, and immigration. Her powerful, culturally rooted female characters aim to foster a more tolerant and inclusive Canadian society. Geraldine’s artistry not only reflects her personal journey but also resonates with broader social issues, making her a vital voice in contemporary theatre. Cecilia Barboza

Cecilia Barboza (Stage Manager, Sound Technician and Escenography) Cecilia is a Venezuelan-Canadian Contemporary Glass Mosaic Visual Artist and a founding member of ExpresARTe Theatre Club since 2015. Currently serving on the board of directors, Cecilia has made significant contributions to the organization in various capacities, including acting, sound and music technician, backstage support, stage management, and production team roles. Raised in a musically rich environment, Cecilia's first instrument was the violin, and she also received training in guitar and piano. Her exceptional ability to curate and integrate her extensive knowledge of classical, antique, and general music enhances the artistic quality of theatre performances, making her a vital asset to the ExpresARTe Theatre Club. Cecilia's multifaceted talents and dedication to both visual and performing arts reflect her commitment to elevating artistic expression and fostering a vibrant cultural community. Cecilia Barboza (Asistente de Dirección, Técnica de Sonido y Escenografía) Cecilia es una artista visual venezolana-canadiense especializada en mosaico de vidrio contemporáneo, y miembro fundadora de ExpresARTe Theatre Club desde 2015. Actualmente forma parte de la junta directiva y ha realizado valiosas contribuciones a la organización en distintas áreas, incluyendo actuación, técnica de sonido y música, apoyo tras bastidores, dirección de escena y producción. Criada en un entorno profundamente musical, su primer instrumento fue el violín, además de haber recibido formación en guitarra y piano. Su extraordinaria capacidad para seleccionar e integrar su amplio conocimiento de música clásica, antigua y contemporánea enriquece la calidad artística de las producciones teatrales, convirtiéndola en un pilar fundamental para ExpresARTe Theatre Club. Antares Ramirez

Mexican-Canadian Actress | Singer | Educator Born and raised in the vibrant heart of Mexico City, Antares Ramírez brought her passion for the performing arts to Calgary, Canada in 2012. Her artistic journey began in 2014 with her debut in Inmigrante Soy, directed by Vicky Velasco, president of Gato Negro Spanish Theater. That same year, she produced and directed Homenaje a Cri-Crí for Casa México Foundation — a heartfelt tribute to one of Mexico’s most beloved children’s composers. In 2015, Antares deepened her craft under the mentorship of Vicky Velasco, starring in El Mal Paso from the acclaimed production Entrelazos. Soon after, she became one of the founding members of ExpresARTe Theater Club, serving as its president from 2017 to 2018. With ExpresARTe, she has performed in numerous productions, including Invulnerabilidad, Cuéntame de tu Amor, The Adventures of Miguel Vicente, Unforgettable Funeral, and Pilgrims. Antares has also appeared with StoryBook Theater in the Broadway play Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere (2019), showcasing her versatility and commitment to diverse storytelling. In 2023, she performed her first monologue titled "Mexinadian'", making her debut as a writer with Handsome Alice. Beyond the stage, she has emceed major cultural events such as Expo Latino, the largest Latin festival in Western Canada. A passionate communicator and creator, Antares continues to collaborate with ExpresARTe as an actress, marketer, and social media content creator — blending her artistic expression with her talent for storytelling and community engagement. Alongside her stage work, she shares her love for the performing arts as a drama teacher for toddlers at one of Calgary’s most prestigious schools of arts, inspiring the next generation of young dreamers through creativity, music, and imagination.
