Director's Note

Engatouille is a musical created to showcase the innovation and out-of-the-box thinking required to be an engineer, as well as the mental challenges many face while studying engineering. Engineering is a team sport that demands problem solving and collaboration. Diversity of backgrounds and skills within a team is what make it great and helps engineers thrive. People of all upbringings, genders, sexualities, and races must be empowered to pursue careers in engineering in order to properly tackle the world's most pressing problems. Engatouille showcases finding support in the most unexpected friendship and the journey towards feeling like you truly belong. While you may feel lonely, overwhelmed, or like an imposter at times; there are always people willing to help and a community waiting to embrace you. Even when self-doubt creeps in remember: anyone can be an engineer.

Yours Truly,

Maya Archer

Meet the Club

Rameel Clavero

Linguine
Rameel Clavero - Linguine Mechatronics 3 (he/him) This is Rameel's second production with the Engineering Musical having previously played Scott Pilgrim in Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). Rameel loves being in WEM even though being a lead in a show is difficult and being in eng makes it no easier. In fact, his roommates (forever traumatized by controls) fear he lost his sanity after hearing him practice lines late into the night. But he loves acting and knew he had to be in this club. Rameel is most excited for everyone to see our band play - they were asked to do a lot and he thinks you'll agree that they delivered... and then some!

Nadeem Hirji

Remy
Nadeem Hirji - Remy Mechatronics & Physics 4 (he/him) This is Nadeem's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. He joined WEM to try something new and has enjoyed meeting new people. Nadeem is most excited for everyone to see him in a rat costume and the satirical jokes in the show.

Allie Banman

Colette
Allie Banman - Colette Mechanical 2 (she/her) This is Allie's first production with the Western Engineering Musical, but she has played various villainous characters in previous plays, including but not limited to: the lion that kills his brother, twin totally not gay henchmen of the sea witch, and the buff hot guy that Belle definitely shouldn't date, but like what if she did. Allie joined WEM to make 10 years of singing lessons worth something and hopes you all enjoy the pick up lines in the show... take notes single friends ;)

Claire Zhang

Larousse
Claire Zhang - Larousse Software 4 (she/her) This is Claire's first production with the Western Engineering Musical, but she has performed in many musicals in her dreams. She joined WEM to sing, dance, and have fun! Claire is very proud of the block of cheese she made and hopes you all enjoy it as well. During rehearsals she loves to watch the scenes she's not in because everyone is fire so she knows you'll love the show too!

Sarah Huang

Horst
Sarah Huang - Horst Software & Ivey 4 (she/her) This is Sarah's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. Sarah always wanted to be in a musical and felt she had to be a part of Engatouille. Joining WEM made Sarah feel like the embodiment of Troy Bolton as she also plays varsity ultimate frisbee. She has had so much fun at rehearsal and meeting so many new people in this fun, niche eng community. Sarah is very excited for everyone to see the show because the whole team went crazy hard on it.

Artemis Cherkaev

Dante
Artemis Cherkaev - Dante Mechatronics 2 (he/him) This is Artemis's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. He joined WEM for fun and is excited for everyone to see Engatouille. The part he enjoys most about WEM is the musical and not providing his producer with information to write his bio; also he loves you all! <3

Justin Stranges

Popeye
Justin Stranges - Popeye First Year Engineering (he/him) This is Justin's first production with the Western Engineering Musical, but has previously been in his high school's production of Mean Girls. Justin loves to sing and Engatouille has been a creative outlet for him as, like many of us know, first year engineering can be really stressful. He hopes the eng students watching catch all the references and find the show relatable and funny! Justin hopes to be in more WEM shows in the future! (and we hope so too!)

Logan McDowall

Professor Ego
Logan McDowall - Professor Ego Electrical 3 (he/him) This is Logan's second production with the Western Engineering Musical having previously played Wallace in Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). In addition to the last WEM production he has also been in productions of Something Rotten, Newsies, and Bonnie & Clyde. He continued to be a part of WEM because he enjoys hanging out with all of these engineers trying to put together a hilarious musical. Logan is excited for people to hear all of the funny jokes and good music.

Maya Archer

Skinner
Maya Archer - Skinner Integrated 4 (on Internship) (she/her) This is Maya's third time acting for the Western Engineering Musical having previously played Vivian in Technically Blonde (2023) and Kim in Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). Maya is also the Cast Director of Engatouille and was the Vocal Coach for Pott Skilgrim. Maya joined the musical to have an excuse to sing wherever and whenever she wants and call it practice. She has enjoyed seeing her artistic vision coming to life in this year’s musical and is excited for people to see her very professional tie.

Sofia Ziak

Remy's Dad
Sofia Ziak - Remy's Dad Integrated (5) (she/her) This is Sofia's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. Sofia was once asked "Why aren't you in the eng musical?" and thought that was a great question - so she joined! She has enjoyed being in a diverse group of future engineers, and having a creative and goofy space where everyone is able to express themselves. Sofia especially loves all the silly bits the cast made up and added along the way like [REDACTED] ;)

Jericho Salvador

Emile
Jericho Salvador - Emile Mechanical 4 (he/him) This is Jericho's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. Jericho has always loved music and has been singing from a young age but has never been part of a musical before. He felt like Engatouille was the perfect opportunity to be in a musical before he graduates since Ratatouille is one of his favourite movies! He is honored to be part of this fun show and talented cast! Jericho also wants to tell all engineering students to join WEM next year - you will not regret it!!

Carol Aramayo

Leonardo da Vinci
Carol Aramayo - Leonardo da Vinci Electrical 2 (she/her) This is Carolina's first time acting in a production with the Western Engineering Musical. However, she assited greatly behind the scenes with Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). Carol joined WEM because it came to her in a vision. She loves how the show is super fun and energetic as well as having a lot of ups and downs. And how ultimately it's a fun story about engineering we can all relate to (except for maybe the being controlled by a rat part)

Victoria DaCosta

Gusteau/Random Rat/Random Student
Victoria DaCosta - Gusteau/Random Rat/Random Student First Year Engineering (any) This is Victoria's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. However, they have been in productions of The Lion King and Frozen before! Victoria joined WEM because they love theater. Victoria has loved bonding with the rest of the cast and knows you will all love the jokes because they are SO FUNNY!!

Sarth Khilari

Phone Call Voice/ Random Rat/Random Student
Sarth Khilari - Phone Call Voice/ Random Rat/Random Student First Year Engineering (he/him) This is Sarth's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. This is his "eng kid attempts being artsy" moment and besides it's engineering and rats who could turn that down? He has loved how WEM has introduced him to many talented and funny peers especially the upper years he may have not met otherwise. Sarth is most excited for everyone to see Prof Ego (you'll know).

Apon Das

Random Rat/Random Student/Corrupt TA
Apon Das - Random Rat/Random Student/Corrupt TA Mechanical & AISE 3 (he/him) This is Apon's second production with the Western Engineering Musical having previously been Neil in Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). He has continued to be in WEM because he loves to perform and enjoys spending time with everyone in the club. Apon is excited for people to see the musical because of how unique it is. He loves that WEM fosters an environment where people can share their ideas and concepts and everyone participates to the best of their abilities. Apon know that everyone will love what we have in store for this year's Musical!!! Let's GO!!!!

Vedanshi Parekh

Random Rat/Random Student
Vedanshi Parekh - Random Rat/Random Student Mechanical AISE 2 (she/her) This is Vedanshi's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. She is also a self-taught dancer! Veda's thought process when joining WEM was "Can I do this when I am out of uni?, nah. So let's do it NOW!". Veda loves how WEM fosters an environment where eng students get to do non-eng things together. Her favourite part of Engatouille is the last scene where her character gets a little... wild let's say.

Emily Berlinghoff

Random Rat/Random Student
Emily Berlinghoff - Random Rat/Random Student Computer Science 3 (she/her) This is Emily's second time acting for the Western Engineering Musical having previously been an ensemble member in Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). Emily is also a choreographer for Engatouille and choreogrpahed for Pott Skilgrim as well. Emily is a ballet dancer that has competed in Europe, but has choreogrpahed many genres of dance for Engatouille that she is excited to see the cast perform!

Chris Waring

Guitar
Chris Waring - Guitar Chemical & Biomedical 5 (he/him) This is Chris's second production with the Western Engineering Musical having previously played guitar in the band for Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). Chris initially joined WEM to play guitar in a band setting and have a creative outlet outside of engineering. He is a big fan of the how rat related the musical is and getting to put on a show with everyone! Chris is most excited for people to see the trained mouse circus that shows up in the final act haha just kidding (maybe).

Daniel Manguply

Drums
Daniel Manguply - Drums First Year Engineering (he/him) This is Daniel's first production with the Western Engineering Musical, but he has 5 years experience as a percussionist. Daniel joined WEM because we absolutely begged him to, but he is so happy to be here and loves to see everyone in their rat costumes! He is most excited for you all to see the rat jokes in Engatouille!

Devin Mah

Trombone
Devin Mah - Trombone First Year Engineering (he/him) Crazy? I Was Crazy Once. They Locked Me In A Room. A Rubber Room. A Rubber Room With Rats. And Rats Make Me Crazy. Oh sorry - this is Devin's first production with the Western Engineering Musical, but has experience as the trombonist of PETHS Wind Symphony. He joined WEM because the concept of a musical filled with engineering jokes was something he had to take part in and it allows him to keep playing the trombone! Devin's favourite things about Engatouille are rats and the most accurate depiction of ES1050.

Maile Schilling

Keyboard
Maile Schilling - Keyboard Japanese Studies 1 (she/her) This is Maile's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. Maile enjoys playing the piano and accompanying singers. She is especially exicted to see the choreo and laugh at the jokes in the show!

Saami Khudhur

Guitar
Saami Khudhur - Guitar Civil 2 (he/him) This is Saami's second production with the Western Engineering Musical having previously played guitar in the band for Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). Saami joined WEM because he wants to make a gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) and thinks a musical is a good attempt at that.

Serena Hughes

Flute
Serena Hughes - Flute Arts & Humanities 1 (any) This is Serena's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. Serena joined WEM because her suitmate (our band director Jade) came back from class and out of the blue asked "you play flute right?". Now Serena is here and we wouldn't have it any other way! Serena thinks the show is really funny (especially the costumes) and has enjoyed how WEM has allowed them to keep playing the flute and meet new people!

Tierney Craven

Producer
Tierney Craven - Producer Chemical 5 (she/her) This is Tierney's third production with the Western Engineering Musical! She was cast as Elle Woods in Technically Blonde (2023) and Scalpel/Boilersuit in Pott Skilgrim vs Engineering (2024). As well she was a writer and the Cast Director for Pott Skilgrim. Engatouille marks the end of Tierney's 3-year long involvement in WEM, but she has had so much fun with every show and will miss it dearly! Tierney would like to dedicate Engatouille to her friends that have lovingly listened to her yap about WEM for the past 3 years and especially to her capstone group for dealing with her hecticness this year <3

Jade Franklin

Band Director
Jade Franklin - Band Director Music 1 (she/her) This is Jade's first production with the Western Engineering Musical, but is also a Band Director for Theater Western! As Band Director, Jade has organized rehearsals, managed the band, and arranged the pieces the band is playing! Jade joined WEM to see how a rat could possibly become an engineer! She loves how dedicated the cast and band are to rehearsing and making this the best show ever. Jade's favourite scene is the mommy one (you'll see).

Maya Archer

Cast Director & Writer

Luan Penney-Laryea

Choreographer
Luan Penney-Laryea - Choreographer Civil 4 (on Internship) (she/her) This is Luan's first production with the Western Engineering Musical. She is one of our wonderful choreographers and has done an amazing job with the dances. Luan joined WEM to please our Cast Director Maya (her roommate) but has enjoyed how energetic and fun the cast is. A fun fact about her is that her favorite musicals are Wicked (duh), Les Mis, and Hamilton!

Executive Letter

Welcome to Engatouille! This parody of Ratatouille (2007) was written, directed, and performed by engineering students! Remy, a rat living in the streets of London wants more than anything to be an engineer, but his family doesn't support his dream. When Remy gets separated from his family and meets Linguine, a struggling first year engineering student at Western, they realize they're not so different. Remy chooses to follow the motto of his idol, Leonardo da Vinci: "Anyone Can Be An Engineer".

Thank you for supporting the fifth annual Western Engineering Musical. I am thrilled we can host this incredible showcase of talent and creativity as we celebrate the vibrant spirit of engineeing. We ask that you please silence your phone and refrain from throwing your undergarments onto the stage until the final curtain call.

I am honoured to be producing the Engineering Musical for the first time; I would not have the confidence or skills to do this without the mentorship from my predecessor, Madeleine Di Gregorio. The production would not have been possible without our wonderful team. Thank you to the incredibly talented cast and band for their dedication and hardwork. The cast has worked tirelessly to learn the script, vocals, and choreography; their thoughtful additions and portrayls have transformed the script into a hilariously accurate protrayl of being an engineering student. The band's teamwork and music skills have been nothing short of remarkable.

Thank you especially to the executive team, Maya and Jade. As Cast Director, Maya also assisted on all aspect's of the musical's activites this year and her commitment brought this show to fruition. Our Band Director Jade did an amazing job getting our band into shape with limited time. I truly admire her hardwork and confidence. Thank you to our tech and backstage crew for staging and lighting our performance.

A sincere thank you to our faculty supervisor, Dr. Reeves, for presiding over this project. We are also grateful to Dr. Jaques for his artistic input and set & prop designs. Lastly, thank you to the Faculty of Engineering and the Undergraduate Engineering Society for substantial support of our event.

Sincerely,

Tierney Craven
