Did you know?

The 1964 Broadway musical version of "Fiddler on the Roof" was very well received...nominated for 10 Tony Awards (nine of which it won!) and was the first musical to achieve 3,000 performances. The 1971 film won Oscars for best song, sound, and cinematography.

There is a village named Anatevka in Ukraine, on the outskirts of Kyiv, named after the village from this very musical. It was founded in 2015 by Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman, primarily as a refuge for Jewish families displaced by Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Marc Montminy

Tevye
Marc Montminy - Tevye Marc is excited to make his Red Octopus Theatre Company debut in this production with this wonderful cast and crew. His first Newport theatrical appearance was as Trunchbull in Porthole’s Matilda. Marc has performed in scores of professional and non-professional productions across the country. Favorite roles include Tateh in Ragtime, Captain Smith in Titanic, Reverend Crisparkle in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Fredrik in A Little Night Music, Horton in Seussical!, Sweeney in Sweeney Todd, Guiteau in Assassins, Uncle Fester in The Addams Family, Cladwell in Urinetown, Dave in The Full Monty and Valjean in Les Misérables. Marc loves Jazz.

Megan Walters

Golde
Megan Walters - Golde Megan is thrilled to return to the stage in Newport to play the role of Golde after a four-year hiatus. Fiddler holds a special place in her heart, as she played the role of Chava in a local production in her hometown of Grants Pass, Oregon, almost 34 years ago. Past performances on the PAC stage include Aldonza – Man of La Mancha, Alice – The Addams Family, Inga – Young Frankenstein, Marcy – I Love You Because, Ulla – The Producers, and Marta – Company.

Clara Bird

Clara Bird - Tzietel This is Clara’s first production with Red Octopus Theatre Company and in Newport! Previous acting credits include Company (Sarah and Jenny), Urinetown (Ma Strong), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Marcy Park), RENT, and Cabaret. When not on stage she can be found studying gray whales off the coast of Oregon as part of OSU’s Marine Mammal Institute. This is her first show in six years, and she is incredibly grateful to this cast and crew for being so welcoming. She’d also like to thank her amazing family and friends for their constant love and support.

Kate Miller

Kate Miller - Hodel Kate is thrilled to be making her PAC debut in one of her favorite shows! A recent transplant from Kansas City, she returns to the world of musical theater after 10 years of performing in a capella and professional choirs. When not on stage or working her day job in marketing, Kate spends her free time writing, traveling, and taking long walks with her husband and their dog.

Caity Showalter

Chava
Caity Showalter - Chava Caity started her Newport acting journey in 2015 as Christmas Eve in Avenue Q, and quickly fell in love with the community and atmosphere. Since then, she has been in multiple shows such as Little Shop of Horrors, Fuddy Meers, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and a few others. Her spare time is spent with her family, and creating makeup artistry!

Lucy Taylor Furuheim

Lucy Taylor Furuheim - Shprintze This will be Lucy's 15th stage play, in addition to two online productions, voiceover work, and film. She spent the last two summers at Utah Shakespeare Festival's Junior Actor Training program, and is excited to study musical theatre at Stagedoor Manor in New York this summer. Recent roles include Amaryllis in "The Music Man" and Matilda in "Matilda, Jr." with Coastal Act Productions; Holly in "It's a Wonderful Carol, Actually" and Mustardseed in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with Red Octopus Theatre Company; and Timon in "The Lion King, Jr," and Sour Kangaroo in "Seussical, Jr." with Tacoma Musical Playhouse.

Ella May Marrant

Ella May Marrant - Bielke Ella Marrant is a sixth grader at Newport Middle School. Among other things, she enjoys track and field, hanging out with her friends, practicing volleyball, and taking care of her three pets. This is her fourth play. She loves performing at the PAC and is very excited to be in this production.

Cody Larsen

Cody Larsen - Motel Cody Larsen has been involved in the Newport theatre community since his debut as Princeton in Avenue Q. Favorite roles since then include Fester in The Addams Family Musical, Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Sancho Panza in Man of La Mancha. Cody is regularly harassed by a dachshund named Frank and a chihuahua named Henry.

Alexander Herd

Alexander Herd - Perchik Alexander Herd is a 17 year old actor who has performed in over 24 theatrical productions and short films since 2017, including roles such as Billy in On Golden Pond and Ms. Trunchbull in Matilda Jr. He spent a Summer in LA training through the School of Creative and Performing Arts (SOCAPA). Recently he played Jacey Squires (Tenor in the Barbershop Quartet) in Music Man, and he directed his own short play at his high school. He plans on moving to California to study film and acting.

Darcy Lawrence

Darcy Lawrence - Yente Darcy has worked in the performing arts since the early 80s, as an actor, director, playwright, vocalist, and choreographer. She has performed with companies across New York, California, Oregon, and Utah, including four seasons with the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival. Local audiences may remember her as Nellie in "South Pacific," Street Urchin in "Little Shop of Horrors," Diana in "Lend Me a Tenor," or Randi in "God Help Us!" with Ed Asner. PAC directing credits include "It's a Wonderful Carol, Actually", "A Midsummer Night's Dream", "Lend Me a Tenor", "The Taming of the Shrew", "The Full Monty", etc.

Joshua Lawrence

Joshua Lawrence - Lazar Wolf Josh has been performing at the PAC since high school, and - more recently - directing and building sets. Local audiences may remember him as Tito Merelli in "Lend Me a Tenor", Shakespeare in "A Midsummer Night's Dream", John in "The Violet Hour", Palamon in "The Two Noble Kinsmen", Lucentio in "The Taming of the Shrew", Stewpot in "South Pacific", Jerry in "The Full Monty", etc.

Tyler Walters - Fyedka I’ve probably changed your oil and rotated your tires, now it’s time for you to watch a mechanic dance. This is my first time on stage in over a decade and I’m very fortunate to be welcomed in with such a great cast of people. Looking forward to many more.

Karlia Bertness - Fruma Sarah You may have seen Karlia’s devilishly delicious villainess, Ursula the sea witch in Disney’s The Little Mermaid: the musical, or you’ve seen her as some of her other favorite rolls such as, a Street Urchin in Little Shop of Horrors, Titania in A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Maria in Lend Me a Tenor, or Sister Mary Hubert in Nunsense Las Vegas Review. Maybe you’ve even ran into her at a local karaoke bar. When not on stage, Karlia can be found in her private hair studio creating stunning looks for all who sit in her chair. Kimber Keel

Grandma Tzeitel
Kimber Keel - Grandma Tzeitel Kimber is thrilled to be joining the Red Octopus Theatre Company and OCCA after relocating to the coast in 2020. She has a passion for music theatre and has performed in several productions including Company (Amy), Sunday in the Park With George (Dot, Marie) and Music Man (Alma Hix) with Mid Columbia Musical Theatre in Eastern Washington. Kimber is a mixed media and sculpture artist, lavish hostess and proud, albeit tired, mother of four. She looks forward to working on future productions and hopefully becoming an addition to Newport’s vibrant arts community.

Gabriel Keel

Gabriel Keel - Mendel Gabriel is a newcomer to Red Octopus Theatre Company. He moved with his family to the area in 2020. Gabriel graduated from Newport High School in 2023. He plays multiple instruments, including piano and drums, and loves to experiment with painting and sculpture. "Fiddler on the Roof" is the second production Gabriel has performed in. His first was "The Music Man" (as Winthrop Paroo, in 2015). Gabe is currently striving to learn the art of automotive engineering and will hopefully grace the Newport community with his gifts of music and automotive know-how in the future.

Russel Sweet

Russel Sweet - Ensemble / Rabbi Russel Sweet and his wife, Elaine moved to Depoe Bay in 2020 after retirement. He was an educator for nearly 35 years as both a teacher and later at The Oregon Department of Education. In his younger days, he had an active interest in theatre but set it aside to be a husband and father. Now, he wants to get more involved again. This is his first role with Red Octopus Theatre Company and he’s glad to be back on stage.

Doug Chadwick

Doug Chadwick - Ensemble / Constable An avid fan and regular attendee of local theater productions, Doug Chadwick eagerly takes the stage for the first time in the Red Octopus Theater production of Fiddler on the Roof. With a longstanding love for the arts, particularly his favorite musical, Fiddler on the Roof, Doug is excited for this opportunity to be part of the community theater scene. Thrilled to join such a talented group of performers, he looks forward to continuing his involvement in community theater and to future opportunities to showcase his love for the stage.

Marshall Thompson - Ensemble / Avram Marshall is a lawyer who enjoys theatre of all varieties in his spare time. He is the proud father of Eliza, who is also in the cast.

Michael Golden

Michael Golden - Ensemble / Mordcha Well, it’s been a minute since Michael’s last acting gig. He grew up involved in the theatre on and back stage both in Philadelphia and New York City. Then he got distracted by a career in the software industry for almost forty years. He’s thrilled to be back on stage after all this time. Michael wants to thank his (good) dog Kodiak for allowing him time to rehearse, and huge thanks to his wife Mary for putting up with him for the last 28 years!

Frannie Germeshausen

Frannie Germeshausen - Ensemble / Shaindel Frannie Germeshausen retired to Newport in 2021, attracted by the presence of multiple performance opportunities. She played the role of Sicinius in Shakespeare’s “Coriolanus” with Red Octopus last October-November. This September Frannie will play the role of Agatha Christie in Porthole Player’s world premiere of “The Spirits of Sylvia Beach,” written by local author Jennifer Chaney. Frannie has been active in San Francisco-based Shoestring Radio Theater since 1997. She and husband Steven Kacsmar both sing in Coastal Voices, and perform their original songs locally as The Fog Flowers.

Stacy Fischer

Stacy Fischer - Ensemble / Rifka Stacy Fischer recently retired from a 32 year career teaching English and Theatre at the secondary level, and has over 45 years of experience in the performing arts. Stacy’s most memorable roles include Chelsea in On Golden Pond, Morticia in The Addams Family, Georgie in The Full Monty, and Sally Bowles in Cabaret. In her spare time, Stacy can be found enjoying her best life traveling with her husband and their dog children.

Kacey Bauman

Kacey Bauman - Ensemble Kacey Bauman is a fifth grader. This is Kacey's first performance with Red Octopus Theatre Company. She was in Porthole Players' production of Matilda the Musical last year and attended theater camp over the summer with a production of The Greek Mythology Olympiganza. Kacey loves theater, reading, and art.

Lissa Davis

Lissa Davis - Ensemble Lissa is thrilled to be here breathing fresh air after many years inhaling freeway fumes working in theatre, television, and film in Los Angeles. She also sings with the Coastal Voices choir and its smaller ensemble SoundWaves. In between rehearsals, she and her husband, Mike, are immersed in endless remodeling to make their house their forever home. Thank you to Jason Holland and Milo Graamans for your infinite patience!

Taylor Hiner

Taylor Hiner - Ensemble Taylor is very excited to be a part of “Fiddler on the Roof” this year. She is a 7th grader at Newport Middle School and is in a multi-grade band class where she plays the flute. While she isn’t in school, she enjoys making jewelry, going to rehearsal, spending time with friends, being outside and writing. This is her 2nd production, and she discovered her love for theater last summer at OCCA Summer Theater Camp in “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza”, realizing how much she enjoys being on stage.

Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson - Ensemble This is Jack's first performance with the Red Octopus Theatre Company. Jack has previously been seen in several High School productions (in lead and supporting roles) and sang in High School choir for three years. Even before that, Jack has had an affinity for the performing arts, in no small part thanks to his older brother. Jack loves the theatre arts and intends to pursue a degree in Performing Arts. When Jack isn't on stage, he can be found spending time with family, drawing, building LEGOs, and playing video games, among other things. Jack looks forward to many more opportunities to be cast in future productions of the local theatre companies.

Junie Jones

Junie Jones - Ensemble This is Junie’s (they/them) first production with Red Octopus Theatre Company. Junie previously played Amanda Thripp in the Porthole Players' production of Matilda the Musical and performed in Newport Performing Arts Center summer theater camp productions of Newsies Jr. and Seussicsl Jr.

Fred Kunde

Fred Kunde - Ensemble Fred Kunde lives and works in Newport, Oregon. His excitement about Fiddler On the Roof led him to audition for his first dramatic performance since the Gerald Ford administration. He loves Newport, the natural beauty of the Oregon coast, and Newport's thriving arts scene. He and his wife Gretchen hope to reside here to a ripe old age.

Jeff Lichtman - Ensemble Jeff Lichtman has been “treading the boards” here in Newport since 2009. Some of my favorite productions have been ensemble roles in My Fair Lady, The Producers, Young Frankenstein, Company, South Pacific, and The Addams Family. Two of my favorite roles were Henry in Sex Please We’re Sixty and as the Governor and innkeeper in Man of La Mancha. Besides Theater I enjoy Pickleball and Woodworking.

Madilyn E. Michael

Madilyn E. Michael - Ensemble Madilyn is excited to be here in the wonderful town of Anatevka with Red Octopus Theater Company in “Fiddler on The Roof!” She’s a graduate of Boise High School and a current OCCC student, dancing her way back on the stage after having the honor and opportunity in the past of composing and performing Musicals: The Good Woman of Setzuan (Composer) and The Jungle Book: The Musical (Bagheera the Panther) Plays: Student Production - “A Tale of Yond Boise” (Margery), 14 More Ways To Screw Up Your College Interview (Jackie/Jessica), and Student Production “Icecream – The Mistake” (Bank Manager - “Holly”). Marney Roddick

Marney Roddick - Ensemble Marney is thrilled to have been cast in this production, her first theatre appearance in many years. She had roles in the usual high school, college and community theatre offerings and then life happened. She worked at Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Britt Festivals in southern Oregon and has served on many boards serving the arts in the Rogue and Willamette Valleys. She raised two children to appreciate live music and theatre events and now that they have flown, is free to return to her first love. “Thank you for casting me. This is really fun!”

Dian Seslar Svendsen

Dian Seslar Svendsen - Ensemble Dian is excited to be making her PAC stage debut. She most recently appeared as an Island Sprite in The Tempest at The Majestic Theatre in Corvallis. She has also appeared in plays at Lincoln City’s Theatre West, where she is also a Board member. Dian, also an artist and poet, is retired from over 35 years working in management development in Africa and Asia and now enjoys Coastal life with various creatures, including humans.

Eliza Thompson

Eliza Thompson - Ensemble Eliza Thompson has enjoyed performing her entire life. As a child, she loved dancing and singing on stage when the opportunities arose. As she got older, she participated in school plays and theater companies that put on productions like Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, The Beauty and the Beast, and High School Musical. She plans to attend Oregon State University this fall.

Kyra Blank

Kyra Blank - Dancer Kyra Blank is a member of Pacific Dance Ensemble and dances with Newport School of Artistic Movement. Kyra is a local author, artist, and she raises Valais Blacknose Sheep on her family’s ranch in Siletz. Her dance career includes touring the northwest, California and Florida as part of Oregon State Ballroom Dance Company “Cool Shoes” and dancing in After Dark Dance Company here on the coast. Kyra loves to read, sing, play bagpipes and spend time outdoors with her animals. She believes that the arts are an expression of our truest selves and that every person is an artist. She lives with her husband and their many animals on a multigenerational ranch in Siletz.

Maya Howard

Maya Howard - Dancer I’m currently a senior at Newport High school. I will be attending the Oregon State University Honors College in the fall to study Anthropology. I have been a dancer for Newport School of Artistic Movement for around 14 years now. Dance is a huge part of my life and something I’m very passionate about. I’ve never been a part of a show like this and I am very grateful for the experience!

Sisary Llumiquinga Lapham

Sisary Llumiquinga Lapham - Dancer Sisary (aka Kelpi) has been dancing from day one. She has experience in a multitude of styles, including Andean and Mexican folk, ballet, modern, Celtic, and K-pop. If you can tap your feet to it, she will dance! She is currently a sophomore at Newport High School.

Olivia Richardson

Olivia Richardson - Ensemble Olivia has performed on stage since she was 3 with Newport School of Artistic Movement, Pacific Dance Ensemble, and Coastal Act Productions. This is her first time performing with Red Octopus. Olivia also plays the piano and soccer and loves to snowboard.

Mea Schwab

Mea Schwab - Dancer I am a member of the Newport School of Artistic Movement and the Pacific Dance Ensemble. Currently I am a Junior at Newport High School. My hobbies include playing musical instruments such as the clarinet and the piano. Furthermore, crocheting and knitting and many more hands on projects! As of now, I have danced with Nancy for about seven years. Dance has always been one of my passions and is a fun way for me to get out of the house and move.

Jason Holland

Jason Holland - Director Jason is thrilled to return to directing for the first time since before the pandemic. Previous directing projects include productions of Next to Normal, Violet, Addams Family, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Amour, Ragtime, Titanic, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Donnybrook!, Nunsense, Nunsense A-Men, Forever Plaid, Steel Magnolias, Complete Female Stage Beauty, Schoolhouse Rock, Live! as well as countless musical revues. Jason has appeared on stage as a performer many times as well, but thankfully you don't have to endure that at today's performance! Endless thanks to the full "Fiddler" artistic team, the Red Octopus Theatre Company Board, and to each and every incredible cast member – what a joy to put this together with you all!

Milo Graamans

Music Director
Milo Graamans - Music Director Milo is the choir director at Yachats Community Presbyterian Church, the collaborative accompanist for Coastal Voices, a member of the Lincoln Pops Big Band, a freelance accompanist, and a singer-songwriter. Milo has played keyboards in the pit for many shows at the PAC since 2010 and is on the Red Octopus board of directors.

Nancy Mittleman

Choreographer
Nancy Mittleman - Choreographer Mittleman has over 50 years of directing, teaching, dance, and acting expertise. She has performed on both east and west coasts and studied with such luminaries as Martha Graham, Charles Weidman, Leslie Watanabe, Daniel Lewis, and the NYC Ballet. Mittleman directs Newport School of Artistic Movement, which she founded in 1976, and Pacific Dance Ensemble since 1986. Mittleman received the Honor Award from the Oregon Dance Association for “History in the Making,” and has choreographed and acted in productions such as “Hamlet” (as Ophelia) and “All’s Well That Ends Well” (as Helena). Mittleman says she’s delighted to reconnect with Red Octopus Theatre Company and collaborate with Jason on Fiddler.

Brian G. Robrecht

Brian G. Robrecht - Stage Manager This is Brian's second production with Red Octopus Theatre Company. Prior to moving to the PNW, he was involved with productions in northern and southern California. He has worked in every aspect of theatre over the years, and finds stage management to be one of the most challenging -- but also one of the most rewarding -- roles within a production. Thank you to Red Octopus and OCCA for inviting me to join them for this production of "Fiddler on the Roof."

Jeri Harris

Jeri Harris - Costumer Jeri has always had sewing and costuming in her life. When she moved to Otter Rock with her husband in 2023, she hoped she would once again find a theatrical family to join. She has. Definitely. Jeri has costumed many, many productions over the past 30 years. She has worked mostly with community theatre, but her favorite work was with the Theatre Dept at Washington State University, where she costumed 20 productions, and managed the extensive costume collection. Her favorite show was “The Importance of Being Earnest” at Pullman Civic Theatre. But a close second for inventive and non-traditional costumes was “She Kills Monsters” at WSU. Jeri has also assisted with all others aspects of producing a theatre show, from president of the board to the ever-popular cleaning restrooms. But not on stage. Nope. She won’t do that.

Gary Herd

Set Design
Gary Herd - Set Design Gary Herd is a Waldport artist, singer, and actor. Since 2018, he has performed in 8 productions at the Performing Arts Center, enjoying roles like King Triton (The Little Mermaid); Richard (She Loves Me Not); Cowardly Lion (The Wizard of Oz); and recently Lennie (Of Mice and Men). Gary brings his artistry and mural talent, as well as his woodworking skills, to building, painting, and designing sets.
