Capital Stage’s mission is to entertain, engage and challenge our audience with bold, thought provoking theatre.
THINGS TO KNOW
COVID-19 SAFETY:
To attend a performance everyone in your party must present proof of vaccination for COVID-19 (with a second dose at least 14 days prior to the date of the performance), plus a booster (if eligible) with a valid photo ID. Masks are recommended, not required while COVID risk levels are currently low in Sacramento County. Visit our COVID-19 Safety Protocols & Procedures Page to stay up to date.
VIDEO/PHOTOS:
Recording and photography of any kind are prohibited at Capital Stage during the performance.
CELL PHONES:
Patrons are asked to turn communication devices off upon entering the theatre.
LATE SEATING & RE-SEATING:
Due to the design of our theatre, we cannot guarantee seating for late arrivals or for patrons who leave the theatre during the performance. As a courtesy to our artists and our audiences, late arrivals will be seated in a suitable location by our staff if possible and at the appropriate intervals.
REFRESHMENTS:
Only concession items purchased in the Wine & Dessert Bar are allowed in the theatre, patio and lobby areas. Yes you can bring your drinks and snacks into the theatre!
CHILDREN:
Capital Stage is noted for bringing intimate bold productions to our region and we encourage young adults to experience a live performance. Children age sixteen and up are welcome at Capital Stage unless specifically noted in the production’s description.
WHEELCHAIR SEATING:
Seating locations at Capital Stage for patrons using wheelchairs or with limited mobility are located in the first row. Tickets for these seats may be purchased in person or by calling the Box Office at 916-995-5464.
RESTROOMS:
Restroom facilities are located in the lounge behind the Wine & Dessert Bar.

Meet the Company
Jouni Kirjola*
Jouni is a Sacramento-based actor, director, and sound designer. He is excited to return to Capital Stage where he previously appeared in THE THANKSGIVING PLAY. Most recently, Jouni “killed it” as Professor Plum in Sacramento Theatre Company’s production of CLUE: THE MUSICAL. Favorite roles include Charley in MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG (New Helvetia Theatre), Marquis de Sade in QUILLS (TAAC), Mr. Burns in MR. BURNS, A POST-ELECTRIC PLAY (Capital Stage), and Dr. Frank N. Furter in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (Green Valley Theatre).
Vernon Lewis
Vernon is very excited to be working with Capital Stage again (this time on stage!). For the past 15 years, Vernon has been able to be a part of many thrilling productions such as a list of British Pantos, multiple Shakespeare Festivals at Sacramento City Theatre, and assortment of supporting and lead roles in BOOTYCANDY, A CHRISTMAS CAROL and CANNERY ROW. Recently, Vernon has been gaining experience Directing and Assistant Directing with shows such as THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENED, THE MAGIC LAMP, and PASS OVER.
Shannon Mahoney*
Shannon Mahoney is thrilled to be back at Capital Stage! She is a Sacramento based actor, director and choreographer. Acting credits include LUNA GALE, MAPLE IN VINE, CLYBOURNE PARK, and ENRON at Capital Stage; THE LADIES FOURSOME and THE SOUND OF FREEDOM at B Street Theatre; Sacramento Theatre Company’s production of THE CRUCIBLE; KILLER JOE and A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE at Big Idea Theatre. Some recent choreography credits include: VIETGONE, MR. BURNS, ANNA KARENINA at Capital Stage; RENT at Falcon’s Eye Theatre; and CARRIE THE MUSICAL for Sacramento City College. She has her MFA from CSU Fullerton and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity.
Mayette McDonald
Mayette McDonald returns to the stage after more than a decade since appearing in B Street Theatre’s THE INTELLIGENT DESIGN OF JENNY CHOW and B Street School Tours. She holds a BA in Theatre from California State University, Sacramento where she appeared in TWELFTH NIGHT and HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING. Her voice was featured in 4000 MILES at Capital Stage and she participated in a staged reading of MOTHERS at the 2018 National Showcase of New Plays. She has won several acting awards from the Sacramento Film and Music Festival and works in the tech industry.
Connor Mickiewicz*
Connor is an actor, director, and teaching artist in the Sacramento region and was the founding artistic director of New Helvetia Theatre. Previous acting credits include Baby William in THE BEHAVIOR OF BROADUS (Capital Stage), Jeff in [title of show], Warren in ORDINARY DAYS (both with NHT), and Nick/Narrator for Ron Cunningham’s THE GREAT GATSBY (Sacramento Ballet). Directing credits include PASSION, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, TELL ME ON A SUNDAY (NHT), and CARRIE (Sacramento Theatre Company’s Young Professional Conservatory). He also staged the high school musical numbers for the movie “Lady Bird.”
Hilary Schwartz
Hilary is a Chicago-based actor and is thrilled to be making her Capital Stage debut. Recent credits include ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL (Chicago Shakespeare Theatre), A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, MACBETH (Shakespeare on the Vine), OTHELLO (Babes with Blades), THE DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS (Eclipse Theatre), and HINTER (World Premiere, Steep Theatre). Hilary has worked extensively with the Road Theatre in Los Angeles, where she has performed in a number of premieres, including the world premiere of JOHN IS A FATHER by Julie Marie Myatt and the west coast premiere of ANATOMY OF A HUG, directed by Ann Tobolowsky. She can also be seen in a number of film projects, including the upcoming horror film FANG, directed by Richard Burgin, COMMON GULLS, a web series directed by Morgan Bass, and in various commercial spots for KMart, Mcdonald's, and Google. She received her degree in acting from UC Irvine.
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' plays include NEIGHBORS (Public Theater), APPROPRIATE (Actors Theatre of Louisville, Victory Gardens Theater, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and Signature Theatre), AN OCTOROON (Soho Rep), and WAR. He is a Residency Five playwright at Signature Theatre and a Lila Acheson Wallace Fellow at the Juilliard School. Additionally, his work has been seen at the Vineyard Theatre, the Matrix Theatre in Los Angeles, Company One in Boston, and the HighTide Festival in the United Kingdom. He has taught at New York University and Queens University of Charlotte, and his honors include the Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting, the Helen Merrill Playwriting Award, and the inaugural Tennessee Williams Award. He holds an MA in Performance Studies.
Michael Stevenson
For Capital Stage, Michael has directed THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT, ADMISSIONS, THE HUMANS, THE OTHER PLACE, SWEAT, THE THANKSGIVING PLAY, LUNA GALE, STUPID F##KING BIRD, HOW TO USE A KNIFE, DISGRACED, MR. BURNS, IDEATION, CLYBOURNE PARK, MAURITIUS, ERRATICA (World Premiere), and LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES. He has directed at regional theaters including: B Street Theater, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, Orlando Shakespeare Company, Perseverance Theater Company, and Sacramento Theater Company. As an actor he has appeared at many regional theaters including: 42nd Street Moon, American Conservatory Theater, The Aurora Theater, Bailiwick Repertory Theater, Capital Stage, B Street Theater, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and Marriott’s Lincolnshire Theater. He holds an M.F.A. from the American Conservatory Theater.
