This wasn't supposed to be a theatre company, you know.

A little more than ten years ago, a small group of about a dozen local volunteers wandered into White Oak Library and auditioned for a show they had never heard of run by people they had never met (and had a budget of zero dollars) to be performed in a building that, in almost 200 years, had never housed a theatrical production.  Six weeks later, they performed, several of them for the first time ever, to a weekend of sold-out audiences.  It was supposed to be a one time thing.  But, that December, they did it again with A Christmas Carol and then again and again and again.

Since that first show, Limestone Stage, as it became known, has put on an additional 24 shows including gigantic stage spectaculars like It's a Wonderful Life and classics from Shakespeare, Chekhov, Poe and Wilde.  We have had more than 100 individuals work with us (on stage or behind it) and have presented to more than 10,000 patrons.  We have worked on claustrophobic stages 10 feet wide and presented A Midsummer Night's Dream under the stars of the July sky.  We have hosted classes on acting, directing, stage writing, improv, stagecraft, lighting and auditioning.  We've performed as part of Old Canal Days, at Comicopolis and at the Roxy Lockport.  We survived a world pandemic, when so many other companies couldn't, and found ways to put on bigger and better shows...

Because of you.

You, the volunteer who shows up to a work call and learns stagecraft or makeup on the fly so we can tell our stories.  You, the person who never got on stage once in your life and decided to come to an audition, gets cast and keeps coming back.   You, the patron who comes and laughs and cries and applauds and gives us our reason for being on stage in the first place.

From the Board of Directors of Limestone Stage, thank you for all of the support this last ten years.  We are so excited to be here and can't wait to show you the incredible projects in our second decade!

Enjoy the show!

About Limestone Stage

About Our Organization

Limestone Stage, founded in 2014, is a community theatre group serving the greater Will County area. Our focus is to expose people of all ages and abilities to the performing arts, then educate them from all sides: acting, directing, tech and operations. We look at theatre as an excellent way to bring people together, and feel that Lockport has a very deep need for an artistic outlet for both people involved in the shows, as well as the viewing public.

Limestone Stage has its roots in 2012 when the Gaylord Building and White Oak Library District decided to put on an abstract theatrical performance as a way of highlighting historic downtown Lockport. Murder Mystery on State Street, written and directed by Alissa Raschke-Janchenko, performed to a sold-out audience in October 2012. The trigger was pulled on the second show - a series of comedic one acts that were granted the title Good Humor: A Festival of One Acts. That show, too, sold out for every performance and told us officially that not only could a full - blown theatre work in Lockport, but it was something the area sorely needed.

In 2018, Limestone Stage became a 501(c)3 organization, which will allow us to continue to provide theatrical opportunities to the community, through donations and ticket sales. As always, there is no fee to participate in Limestone Stage productions, and we encourage folks of all ages and all walks of life to join

Thank you for your continued support!
