Director's Note
It’s an old song, from way back when. Welcome to Hadestown, a place where young people fall in love, those who have been around a while make mistakes, and everyone does the best they can to make sense of a weak and weary world. And somehow, they do.
This show is one of my all time favorites, a story that relates to young and old, wise and foolish, you and me. Everyone, whether they are a stranger to the streets of desolation or have walked that path a hundred times, gets this show. It’s magic, pure theatrical alchemy. And that’s not hyperbole.
Every single actor in this show has leaned in, at every rehearsal, given it their all, and brought something unique to this production. Not because they had to, or were told to, but because they clearly love this story. It speaks to them. It speaks to everyone on the team: the directors and choreographer, the designers, the producers, and especially, the incredible troupe of miracle makers that is our cast.
Every now and then, a show comes along that makes you proud to be in the theatre. This is one of those shows. There isn’t a single person in this show who hasn’t given it their all. This is one for the ages, a show we will talk of for the rest of our lives. It’s a sad tale, yes. It’s a tragedy. But we’re gonna sing it anyway. Because it speaks of both the world we live in now,, and the one we dream about. Thank you for joining us. Now buckle up.
