Director's Note

Little Shop of Horrors is one of the first shows I ever saw live as a child, and I fell in love with it instantly. What’s not to love about a campy cautionary tale about the slippery slope of doing things you know to be wrong in the service of a power that offers escape from the harsh realities of an unfair world? It’s a show with a message that I think is a vital one for young artists to examine. It’s a show with challenges that require generous collaboration among designers, crew, cast and musicians. It’s a show that holds space for unconventional musical theatre performers to shine, and… it’s just good fun. It has been a pleasure getting to share this show with our students and to learn alongside them through the process of figuring out our version of it. 

I am enormously proud of all of the students who’ve worked on this Little Shop. I hope you will be too. Welcome, enjoy, and don’t feed the plants.

Meet the Company

Kayla Byrd

Chiffon

Kayla takes CCBC's stage, for the third time, in Little Shop! She has been seen previously in last years' productions of Barbecue as Lillie Anne and Hotel Cassiopeia as the waitress. Kayla has since changed her major to Early Childhood Education, but is still very in love with acting and the theater program here at CCBC. She now plans to transfer to Towson University in the Fall of 2024 to become a first grade or kindergarten teacher!

Angelina Curreri

Ronnette

Angelina is delighted to be returning to the stage after a 3 year break with Little Shop of Horrors! She is a Communications major and is currently attending CCBC Essex! She has enjoyed learning more about herself and connecting with her character, Ronnette, during this process. Angelina is excited to show you what she and her fellow cast mates have been working on!

Aidyn Mingo

Crystal

Aidyn is excited to return to the stage with Little Shop of Horrors! They were in GOYA: en la Quinta del Sordo over on the Catonsville campus last semester. They are currently dual enrolling at CCBC and will graduate high school this year, after which they hope to attend an arts focused college. While Aidyn has participated in all sorts of shows-- nonverbal ones such as Goya, and conventional plays such as Anxiety is Orange— this is their first musical! They are very excited to sing for you all! They want to leave you with just one message: don’t feed the plants.

Hax Tillman

Mushnik

Deasia, who also goes by Hax Tillman, finishing his first year with a bang as Mr. Mushnick in Little Shop of Horrors. You may have also seen him in a production last semester as James T in Barbeque. This performing arts major isn't stopping here as they continue to expand on social media to grow and get their dream career off the ground. With hopes to be seen on the big screen or on Broadway one day.

Kennedy Cummings

Audrey

Kennedy is a Computer Science major at CCBC. This is her first show at CCBC and she couldn’t be more excited. Between coding and late night physics labs, she loves being on the stage more than anything else. Kennedy has a message she’d like to share “Shout out to my family! I love you guys! Xoxo”

Aaron Partin

Seymour

Aaron is making his Essex debut as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors! He is a second-year theatre major at CCBC and has previously performed on the Catonsville stage in the Spring 2023 production of Goya: En La Quinta Del Sordo and the Fall 2022 production of We Are Proud To Present. He plans to continue pursuing acting in the future, both on stage and in film.

Marcus Goldsborough

Orin

Marcus is a Spring 2022 college graduate of CCBC Essex. He has an Associates Degree in art and hopes to pursue a career out of his passion for visual arts. But he also has a passion for storytelling, singing, and acting. In 2021, he was part of the Spring Arts Festival, where he played some fun, out of this world characters in neofuturistic skits written by the creative mind of his peers. In 2022, he also was part of the CCBC Gala with Anne Lefter, Director of the Arts, where he portrayed a historical figure named Vivien Thomas. Even though Marcus has been in play productions before in elementary school and at his church, this will be his first CCBC play production as Orin the sadistic dentist in Little Shop of Horrors and hopes to continue the experience of acting and other forms of art.

Broadus Nesbit III

Audrey II (puppeteer)/ Assistant Director

Broadus is back as the Assistant Director and Audrey II puppeteer! He was previously seen in CCBC productions of Father Comes Home From The War, The Underpants, Small Mouth Sounds, and Argonautika. The west Baltimore native has recently started his own production company, and has been a part of productions outside of CCBC. Some of the shows include Stick Fly, When Men Reduce As Women Do, Kill Move Paradise, Hamlet at Arena Players, and 10x10x10 at Fells Point Corner Theater. The next thing Broadus is working on is his very own web series, slated for a 2024 release. Broadus gives thanks to friends and family for the support.

Jason Crawford

Audrey II (voice)

Jason is pleased to be taking on this role for the sixth time and the second time with CCBC Academic Theatre, having performed it in their 2009 production. His favorite credits include The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz, Charlie Brown and Snoopy in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, and, of course, The Voice of Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. Jason has been a part of the Baltimore Theatre Community for more years than he'd like to mention and is the co-founder and current Managing & Artistic Director of Just Off Broadway, a Baltimore-based community theatre, as well as a co-founder of Void Where Prohibited Media, a Baltimore-based film production company. He is a local performer, composer, lyricist, playwright, screenwriter, director, and producer in the Baltimore area and its vicinity. Enjoy the show!

Sarah Joyce

Ensemble

Sarah is a professional singer, actress, and multimedia artist thrilled to return for her third CCBC production. She was previously in CCBC’s Hotel Cassiopeia and Play(gue). Offstage, she has voiced in hundreds of video games, animations, and other digital media. She can’t thank Jesus, her parents, and the fabulous cast and crew enough!

Delaney Seitz

Ensemble

Delaney is a student at CCBC stars as Skip Snip and a customer and is a member of the ensemble in CCBC’s production of Little Shop of Horrors. She has been acting and singing since age 10 and loves it. Her first show and role was chorus #2 in the play, The Frogs. Since then she’s starred in many productions such as Haphazardly Ever After as Princess Ambrosia, The Addams Family: A new Musical as an ancestor, A Midsummer Night’s Dream as a fairy, Beauty and The Beast as townsperson, Antigone as a guard and Queen Eurydice and so much more. She hopes to one day be on Broadway and on the big screen singing and acting and dancing professionally for real. She’s grateful to be a part of this cast and thanks friends, family, and teachers and everyone for their compassion and support.

Ryan Carter

Ryan is a sophomore here at CCBC and is so excited to be in his second production! He wants to thank Jen for the opportunity to be in Little Shop. He also wants to thank the entire cast and crew for all their hard work. Enjoy the show!

Beckett Frey

Beckett is an eighth grader at Hampden Middle School. He attends the Twigs Acting Program at Baltimore School of the Arts and does Jiu Jitsu in his free time.

Jenn Rabbitt Ring

Director

Jenn is an actor, coach, and designated Linklater Voice teacher. As a visiting lecturer at CCBC, she teaches Acting, Voice & Diction, Acting for the Camera and Musical Theatre classes. She is also currently on the faculty of the University of Maryland, College Park and serves as affiliated faculty with the prestigious actor training program of Shakespeare & Company in Lenox MA. Jen is an emeritus company member of Mile Square Theatre in Hoboken, and is one of the co-founders of the educational residency program of CoLab Arts in central NJ. In DC, she has coached shows for Woolly Mammoth Theatre, Mosaic Theatre Company, Arena Stage, Theater J, Brave Spirits, Theatre 4615 and Rorschach Theatre. Her most recent regional acting credits include Rorschach's Chemical Exile, Taffety Punk's production of She Rode Horses Like the Stock Exchange and the world premiere of Joe Calarco's Separate Rooms with Theatre 4615. She has served on the faculties of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutgers University, Westminster Choir College, Hudson County Community College and Howard County Community College. She holds an MFA in acting from Rutgers University and is a proud graduate of UMD and New World School of the Arts in Miami, Fl. This is her directing debut.

Homeretta Ayala

Music Director

Heretta, affectionately known as Homer, began at CCBC in 1980 as Music Director of the Act I Program, accompanist for Cockpit in the Court, and part of the Music Faculty on the Dundalk Campus. She has directed the CCBC Community Chorus, teaches ESOL and English. She has directed more than 100 musicals in Florida, the Virgin Islands, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. She was Music Director for the Maryland Premier of Titanic. Her choirs have performed in England, Washington DC for America Sings, Camden Yards for the Baltimore Orioles, and New York in the Macy's Day Parade. She holds degrees in Music, Library/Technology, Educational Administration, ESOL, and is currently working on her Doctorate in Ethnomusicology and Worship. She is Music Director/Organist at St. Charles Borromeo and St. Paul’s Lutheran. Among her credits are Congressional Commendation for the Arts, published arranger, and Baltimore County Finalist for Teacher of the Year. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren. In her own words, “I love CCBC and am so privileged to continue to be a part of this amazing community of students and staff.”

Shakiara Saunders

Stage Manager

Shakiara is a Spring 2022 graduate of CCBC Essex. This year she appeared in The Variations On The End at The Variations Project, as well as in The Lady Was A Gentleman at Strand Theatre as Production Swing. You might have previously seen her in the Spring 2022 production of Fabulation, or the Re-Education of Undine, Fall 2021 production of The Underpants, and the Spring Arts Festival 2021 at CCBC. On the production side she was assistant stage manager in 2021 for Speech and Debate, the makeup artist for He Has Risen, and stage manager for We Are Proud To Present, all of which were also at CCBC. She hopes to create and act in her own shows in the future.

Isabela Gomez

Assistant Stage Manager

This is Isabela’s first time working with CCBC Essex Theatre. A second year Emergency Medical Technology major that is taking a couple of theater classes to further her passion for theater. At The Catholic High School of Baltimore, she did backstage crew for The Sound of Music and The Christmas Carol. She then performed in The Women, Arsenic and Old Lace, and Beauty and the Beast which unfortunately was cancelled due to Covid-19 in 2020. Isabela is excited to be part of the show.

Eli Peterson

Assistant Stage Manager

This is Eli’s first show at CCBC, and they’re very excited to be part of this production. If you see shows in the Baltimore area, you may have seen Eli in shows at The Sky is the Limit Community Theatre, or in shows at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts in 2022. Some of their favorite shows they’ve been part of are Sister Act (Assistant Stage Manager, PR & Marketing), Beauty and the Beast (Silly Girl/Dancer), and the Little Mermaid (Arista/Dancer). They want to thank Terri for recommending them, and Jen and the rest of the cast and crew for making this experience an enjoyable one. They are very thankful to have had the opportunity to be part of this production of Little Shop of Horrors, and hope you enjoy the show as much as they have!

Ashley Mayfield

Assistant to the Director

Ashley is proud to be involved with this wonderful production. She is in her final year at CCBC. You may have seen her on the CCBC stage in productions like The Underpants (u/s Cohen) and A New Brain (Rhoda). You can also spot her behind the scenes on productions like We Are Proud to Present…(Production Assistant) and The Underpants (Prop Master)! She is hoping to expand into more directing roles in the future and she would like to thank the entire Directing Team of Little Shop Of Horrors!

Tommy Parlon

Choreographer

Tommy a native of Washington, D.C., received his M.F.A. in Dance (Choreography and Technology) from Arizona State University and his B.F.A. in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. From 1998-2002 he was an Assistant Professor of Dance at Kent State University. While in New York City he danced with J. Fregalette Janson Dance, Centaur Dance Theatre, Beyondance Inc! and the Paris based multi-media performance art company FIASCO. Mr. Parlon has danced in pieces by Doug Varone, Stephen Petronio, Alvin Mayes, Laura Dean and Elizabeth Streb. In 1996-1998 he collaborated on Falling to Earth, an interactive multi-media performance piece created with the Institute for Studies in the Arts at Arizona State University. His choreography has been commissioned by Incidents Physical Theater of New York City, NEW ARTiculations in Tucson, Arizona, Lansing Chamber Dance in Michigan, and numerous colleges throughout the United States. He was awarded an Individual Artist Award in Solo Dance Performance from the Maryland State Arts Council in 2004 and an Artist Award in Choreography in 2007. Mr. Parlon is currently the Artistic Director of Tommy Parlon Dance Projects in Washington, D.C., and the Artistic Associate of Ground Zero Dance in Richmond.

Terri Raulie

Scenic/Lighting Designer

Terri is an Assistant Professor in the Performing Arts and Humanities Department at CCBC. She holds a BFA and an MA in Theatre Design and Production from Montclair State University in New Jersey. Professional and regional credits include The Whole Theatre, The Hangar Theatre, and Playwright Horizons in New Jersey and New York. Locally, she has designed sets and/or lights for productions with Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre, Phoenix Festival Theatre, and the Baltimore School for the Arts.

Toni Oliver

Sound Designer/Operator

After graduating CCBC in 2015, Toni (She/Her) moved on to running sound and lighting at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament for three years. She has spent the past few months touring the country to set up and run effects for cheerleading competitions. Toni would like to thank her friends and family for encouraging her to continue her craft and for all of their support. It means the world.

Jess (She/Her) is a theatre artist, producer and puppetry specialist who works as an independent artist with various theatre companies as a leader, designer, and puppet creator. Brad is a Baltimore based Director, Fight Choreographer, Scenic Artist, Sound Designer, Production Manager, and nerd who is thrilled to be directing Airness at CCBC where he regularly serves at the Production Manager for the Performing Arts Department. He is also currently the Managing Director of Fells Point Corner Theatre, and GM for Planar Taxi Co., a D&D live play show. He is passionate about justice, representation, indigenous sovereignty, and centering non-straight-white-cis-male stories and opinions everywhere possible. He himself is a straight-white-cis-male, so this bio is about as much of his story as he is comfortable with you caring about. He loves his wife and kids and would be nowhere without them. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire Brad Norris.
