Thank you for joining us for our second Alumni Community Theater event at Indian Creek School!

Before we tell you about Little Women, we'd like to mention the people we were lucky enough to be around over the past several weeks.  This cast and crew clarified for us what not only "community" means, but also what Indian Creek means.  Some of them hadn't been on campus for 20 years until the stage came calling, and others just graduated in May and are about to tackle the world for the first time.  Some are faculty, and some are friends.  Regardless of where they are in their journeys, they are all proud to be part of the Creek.  Add to that our creative team, who are keen on little details like the torn paper for the projections, creating costume Easter Eggs, or finding the actual handwriting of Louisa May Alcott - and we have some top-notch Creek synergy happening.

Watching them all converse, laugh, dance, play, and hang out for hours on end has been pure joy.  They are such individuals, but all of them perfectly represent what ICS is all about.  They are unique, kind, accepting, and proud of who they are and the work they've done.

Little Women the Broadway Musical is a classic, just like the Louisa May Alcott novel on which it's based.  It is no wonder the show won three Drama Desk awards and gleaned Sutton Foster one of her many Tony nominations.  In this age where media and entertainment so often attempt to appear edgy or subvert expectations, LIttle Women is a refreshing return to simple and quintessential storytelling.  It is a family drama where we, the audience, can experience all the highs and lows of what family can mean.  As Music Theatre International says, "Little Women embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears, and a lifting of the spirit."  The characters of Little Women loom large in the canon of great literature.  Enjoy seeing our actors bring them to life on stage!

Highlights for Matt include directing August Wilson's "Fences," "The Laramie Project," "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)," and more recently "Puffs." He's proud of the work he's done on dozens of shows with directing partner Jill Woodward, and is even more proud that so many alums have gone on to perform and work at the highest levels worldwide! Matt is ecstatic that the community theater dreamed up years ago is now in its second season! This cast of "Little Women" truly represents what community theater is. Matt would like to thank his wife Tiffany, and his theater nerd kids, Campbell '24 and Rooney '29 for everything they put up with during every show. Jill Woodward

Music Director & Choreographer
Jill is very excited that the dream of Alumni Community Theater is in its second year! After directing over 100 shows at ICS (most of those with directing partner Matt McCormick), she is proud of this new venture and the amazing cast and crew that have come together to celebrate theater in this way. Jill has been amazed at the, sometimes literal, heights that have already been reached on ICS stages from middle schoolers flying above the stage in "Peter Pan" to over a hundred Upper School students involved in "Newsies." Seeing basketball stars become stars on stage, and watching ICS stage stars go on to perform on Broadway have been equally rewarding and full of joy. She hopes that in years to come, she will see more and more alumni and ICS community members rekindling their love of theater through the ACT project. During her 29 years at ICS, Jill has loved having the opportunity to teach performing arts in all grades, PK - 12. It has been her lifelong passion to expose students and audiences to the joy of music through meaningful and superior literature and experiences. It has been a unique opportunity to watch and work with many young Lower School students through camp, and then watch their talent and confidence grow through Middle and Upper School. Jill feels lucky to have met her wonderful husband Brad (everyone’s favorite history teacher!) at ICS and to have enjoyed both of her children, Samantha '13 and Jamie '22 at home and at school as their Mom and teacher. Thank you to this wonderful cast for being so fun and easy to work with! And a big thank you to 29 years of amazing students!

Joshua Hubbell

Photography
Lots of previous shows photographed but most recently: The Prom, A Year with Toad and Frog, The Big Bad Musical, I and You, Alice in Wonderland, Young Frankenstein, and The Play that Goes Wrong. Also enjoys wedding photography, sports photography, and horror photography. Unfortunately, since he has a degree in accounting, he isn’t legally allowed to be fun or entertaining so if you ask him about his photography he will likely end up just showing you lots of pictures of his dog.

Emily Judson '14

Costumes
This is Emily’s third show as a costume designer, and she enjoyed the challenge presented by doing a true period piece. She has been around costuming since her fourth-grade play when a little voice told the director, “My mom can sew!” Emily helped her mom with many projects through every production in Middle and High School and learned a lot from her, Rita Pavloff, and Laura Grindrod. This show’s costumes, as with all shows, started with the script and what each character became throughout the show. “I want them all to have their own personalities to match their dreams and motivations in the show. But most of all, I want the audience to get to know the March family and their victories and struggles through what they are wearing. Keep an eye out for the small details that make the difference, whether it’s a patch made from extra fabric from Marmee’s dress to hand-me-down lace from Aunt March.”

Casey Roth '28

Casey is a rising ninth grader who is new to theater. Recently, she was the back-stage manager for the Middle School production of Descendants and helped design and run the lights for the ICS Summer performance The Big Bad Musical. She is very excited for her future in ICS theater. She would like to thank Mr. McCormick and Mrs. Woodward for giving her these opportunities and would especially like to thank Izzy Sussman (ICS Overlord) for teaching her so much both in and out of the booth.
