The Myth of Jason and Medea

Jason, the rightful heir to the throne of Iolchis, embarked on a great journey to prove his royal lineage. His uncle, the throne's usurper, promised to return the throne to Jason if he could return with the legendary Golden Fleece. Jason and a group of great warriors boarded a great ship, the Argo, and sailed to the Polis of Colchis. The King of Colchis, Aeëtis, son of the Sun God, met Jason as he entered the city. King Aeëtis challenged Jason to a set of three impossible tasks. The King told Jason that if he passed all three, Jason could leave with the Golden Fleece.

King Aeëtis had a daughter, Medea. Medea was a powerful sorceress and beloved by her father. When Jason arrived at Colchis, Aphrodite bewitched Medea and Medea fell madly in love with Jason. The night before Jason's trials on Colchis, Medea came to Jason, confessed her love, and promised to help Jason defeat her father. The next day, as Jason and Medea attempted to run away with the Fleece, Medea killed both her father and brother to ensure their safe escape.

When Jason brought the Golden Fleece back to Iolchis, his uncle refused to give up the throne and banished Jason and Medea. Now without a home to return to, they find refuge in the city of Corinth. There they have two children and build a seemingly perfect life together. However, still bitter about being stripped of his royal privilege, Jason wants more.

Tyler Major

Medea

Tyler (she/her)is a first-year student at CCBC majoring in Theatre. She has been acting since high school, but this is her first CCBC production. Previous experience includes Alice in Wonderland, West Side Story, Les Miserables, and The Beauty & The Beast. 

Taylor Fruhling

Nurse/Chorus

Taylor (she/her) is so excited to be in her second show at CCBC. You may have seen her as Pauline in A BRIGHT NEW BOISE in the fall at CCBC. She is a theatre major and plans to eventually work for a local theatre company, as well as being a Hair Stylist.

Jake DeVries

Jason

Jake (he/him) is a student here at CCBC returning to college in pursuit of a Bachelors in Purposeful Game Design, and a degree in Teacher Education to pursue a career in education. He has always enjoyed theater and being on the stage and is excited to return after his performance as Yuri Mackus and Zyclo in Anonymous. Stage and theater was a big part of his life in high school and he is glad he could make it part of his life again in college.

Becca Mckenny

Princess/Chorus

Becca (Princess/Chorus) is a graduate at CCBC having degrees in Business Administration and Legal Studies and is a paralegal by day, and an up-and-coming artist at night. She is a filmmaker, writer, and actress having worked on both film, music videos and local theatre. She’s currently working on her Charm City tv series for Christian audiences and can be found on her IG : Beccasodes.

Dylan Villegas

Creon

Dylan (he/him) is a sophomore at CCBC majoring in Theatre. You may have seen Dylan in the 2024 CCBC Essex Spring Comedy Festival playing various roles, or maybe as Facebender in Airness back in Fall of 2023, or perhaps as one of the Hobby Lobby TV Hosts in A Bright New Boise, or maybe even recently this past November when Dylan played Ed Boone in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. He would like to thank the cast and crew of Medea, and all of you for supporting the CCBC Performing Arts program.

Marissa Hawkins

Marissa (she/her) is appearing in her first CCBC Production. She is majoring in Theater and is Vice President of the CCBC film club. Once she graduates from CCBC, she will further her pursuit in Acting for the Camera in the professional world.

Jory Williams

Eldest Son

Jory (he/him) is a Theatre Major at CCBC and is currently in his fourth semester. Jory previously acted in the play titled Anon(ymous) at CCBC Catonsville as Strygal, Senator Laius, etc. and is now Eldest Child in "Medea" at CCBC Essex. He plans on transferring to Towson or UMBC to further his education and career.

Ian Stevenson

Youngest Son

Ian is a first year acting student at CCBC. This is his fifth performance overall, but his first at CCBC. He is delighted to be joining all the wonderful people in the theater community, and is honored to be helping this performance come to fruition!
