Miss Magnolia Beaumont first came to me in 2007. She started talking to me on a birthday trip to Provincetown, and she always felt very real to me. When I started to write this show, it was less about me creating it and more about me writing down everything she had to say and my own responses. It felt like I was transcribing real conversations.
I had the good fortune of being able to do the show in several festivals and a few regional venues. She and I even picked up a handful of awards and glowing reviews. But something about the story always felt a little incomplete to me. As if somehow I had missed the point.
I stopped doing the show around 2013, a few years before I did one of the hardest and most important things I have done. I quit drinking. This May, I celebrated a decade of being sober from alcohol, one day at a time.
To acknowledge this important anniversary, I decided to go back and finish this play. I wanted to fill in the missing pieces, to tell the story I always needed to tell. To receive the message that Magnolia always wanted to send me. In that way, it is a new piece. A newly finished piece, that is.
So here it is. I hope you like it.

Meet the Company
Joe Hutcheson
Joe Hutcheson has written and performed several solo shows including The Geography of a Nervous Breakdown, Son of a Hutch, and Sherilynn Fenn at the Hamburger Hamlet. He helped curate and produce the Left Out Festival at Stage Left Studio from 2008-2012, giving LGBTQ artists an opportunity to produce their work at little to no cost. Joe also teaches for the City University of New York and works as a private fitness coach (www.gethutchfit.com).
Dana Iannuzzi
DANA IANNUZZI (Director) is a New York-based Actor/Director. Most recently Dana directed What the Constitution Means to Me at Vangaurd Theatre Company in Montclair, NJ. Previously Dana served as the American Associate Director for Six the Musical for Norwegian Cruise Lines. Magnolia Beaumont
Miss Magnolia Beatrice Devareux Beaumont (debutante) has been gracing the stage since early 2008. However, she recently came out of an early retirement after being called back into service to help Master Joseph tell the story he always needed to tell (but was too inebriated at the time.)
Cheryl King
Cheryl King is a playwright, director, comedian, and actor whose work has shaped the New York solo performance scene for three decades. Dubbed "the matriarch of the Off-Off Broadway Solo Show scene" by The New York Times, she founded Stage Left Studio in New York City, where she directed over sixty plays and solo shows, including Drama Desk-nominated work. She has taught Writing Your Heart Out continuously since 2000, in New York, Los Angeles, and now weekly on Zoom with students across the country. She currently produces and performs in Forbidden Kiss LIVE, a monthly variety show in Santa Rosa, California, and teaches improvisation and stand-up comedy throughout the Bay Area. Her debut novel, Twisted Flower: An Arkansas Abortion Adventure, is forthcoming.
