Directors' Notes

A little over one year ago, MIT, the US, and the world effectively shutdown. Throughout that time, I thought of so many things I would tell my past self if I could. Take 7.03, 5 classes is easy when they’re all PE/NE. Don’t bother with all the summer research program applications. Make sure to plug in your computer before zoom rehearsals, or it WILL die at 63% battery. In Now and Then, we get to see what happens when our characters potentially gain insight into their own futures, and how they change their paths. But for better or for worse?
One year ago, all of our lives changed. Each of us have something we would like to tell our past selves. But if we could go back, where would we be now?

How does one mount a production, set in a bar, with people who have never once set foot in a bar, or even outside their homes in months? Add to that a brand new theatre group that hasn’t worked together before. Well, it’s a challenge. I am incredibly proud of our cast and crew who pulled together and pulled through to deliver Jess’ vision, and I hope you enjoy the resulting performance! Live theatre is a special thing, and I’m glad we’ve found a way to deliver it to you during these times.
This last year has been an opportunity to reflect for many of us, while the world turns, and while I hope no-one is as tempted as some of our characters to meddle in their own pasts, the fundamental questions we ask are the same — did I make the right choice, could I have done better? Ultimately I believe Now and Then encourages us to place trust in our own and each person's judgement of what’s for the best, and that’s a comforting thing when so much else is unclear.
About LOST
Life on Stage Theatre (LOST) is a place for students to produce non-musical plays, specifically focusing on training and development of both cast and crew. We are here to provide a welcoming environment to develop each other’s abilities across theatre, whatever level they may be.
We produce two 19th or 20th Century plays a year, in Fall and Spring, allowing an extended season to develop technical and artistic visions.
