DIRECTOR'S NOTE
Change is difficult, if we are honest with ourselves. The playwright, Selina Fillinger, says through one of her characters, “They don’t love him, they’re just afraid of the alternative”. Fear is a dangerous thing, in that it makes us do strange things. When the play was brought to me, I knew nothing about it. But as I have learned with plays I direct, through the production process, they grow on me and through me. I am forever grateful for every opportunity to share my talents with the world. While this work of art may hit very close to your thoughts, beliefs and ideals as most political theatre does. I challenge you to let it sit awhile and be honest within yourself about the story that you see and hear tonight. As artists, we only interpret the work of the playwright and the end goal is to be honest to the work. My hope is that you hear the story, and if you are honest in your thoughts, start the dialogue with someone outside of your circle and give change a chance. We cannot continue to do what we have always done, just because it is comfortable. Thank you for supporting the theatre, where theatre is not just what we do it is who we are.
Chalethia Williams, “Ms. C”
