A Message From Rebecca Cook
Producer of Playwright's Playground
Stage Left is proud to continue our original short play festival Playwright's Playground again this year, LIVE and online! There will be three short plays by local playwrights, including our first-ever adolescent playwright. Directed by myself, each play is presented in traditional reader's theater format with the aid of a narrator and your imagination. This popular festival offers a variety of plays and opportunities for experienced and novice actors, as well as celebrating the words of playwrights in a unique way. We will follow the show with a Q&A including the director and the playwrights.
The performance includes:
The First Day of School by Cadence Urhausen
Cast: Adrienne Dellwo, Alli Peterson, David Arends, Renei Yarrow, Julie Berghammer, and Misty Bailey.
-
Written by our first adolescent playwright and kid-friendly.
Does She Exist by Pamela Kingsley
Cast: Robyn Urhausen, Adrienne Dellwo, Tamara Schupman, Arianna Arends, Richard Craven, and Russell Webster.
-
This play contains some strong language.
Moms Just Wanna Have Fun by Kathie O'Brien
Cast: Russell Webster, Lulu Stafford, Penny Lucas, Misty Bailey, and Leona Vander Molen.
-
A Zoom-on-Zoom experience.
Thank you for supporting live theater!

Richard Craven

Richard has been involved with theater in some way for the majority of his life. He and his lover moved to Spokane recently and started to take part with Stage Left. Richard has also finished his first short film entitled Going Home.
Adrienne Dellwo

Adrienne Dellwo is a fiction author, indie filmmaker, playwright, actor, musician, geek, and mom who’s called Spokane home for almost 25 years. She’s been in love with theatre and storytelling since writing and directing a play in 3rd grade. Adrienne had a play featured in last year’s Playwright’s Playground and is delighted to be back this year as part of the cast.
Penny Lucas

Penny Lucas has been active in community theater in Spokane since 1998. A city tour guide and FedEx scheduler, Penny is a long-time participant in reader's theater. She is thrilled to be learning a new performance technique with Zoom.

For you, Lance-“Just Breathe”.
Robyn Urhausen

Leona Vander Molen

Leona Vander Molen is a writer and actor from Columbus, Ohio. She moved to Spokane to receive her MFA in creative writing at Eastern Washington University, where she graduated in 2019.

Rebecca Cook

She has worked as an actress, director, costumer, make-up artist, accountant, producer, and director throughout the region. She serves on several boards and committees in the film industry, works as a Living History actor, and has brought to life over 90 audiobooks. This is Rebecca’s 4th year producing original play festivals for Stage Left. She is very grateful for her journey creating a life in the arts.

Kathie O'Brien

Kathie O’Brien is a retired college professor and educational consultant. Retirement has allowed her to finally write the stories that have churned in her head for decades. Several of Kathie's short plays have been produced/published in Florida, Indiana, Oregon, and, of course, at Stage Left Theatre in Spokane. In addition to Moms Just Wanna Have Fun, these include One More Run and First They Came. The screenplay based on One More Run was chosen as a finalist for the Script Lab's Screenplay Contest in 2020.
Pamela Kingsley

Pamela Kingsley's plays have been produced throughout the U.S., most recently in Boston, Kansas City, LA, NYC, San Francisco, and Santa Fe. Stage Left credits: playwright of/actress in Sleepwalking (Empower), Mother/Narrator in The Last Christmas Ride Home, and director of Freud’s Last Session.
Paul J Watts

Paul J Watts has been a thorn in the side of Stage Left Theater, both on stage and behind the scenes, getting in the way of performances by adding scenic painting, sound, and light cues for both festivals and season productions since 2017 when Texas ran him out of town. Having pestered the Lone Star State with everything from Stage, Screen, TV performances, photography, makeup, and playwriting, they finally had enough. Now he’s Spokane’s problem.
His past acting roles as Fred from Civic Theatre’s Present Laughter and Odysseus in Stage Left’s Hecuba were particularly dangerous. Paul has been the Sound Technician for all of Stage Left’s streamed events this past year. Social distancing around him is advised or you may lose a finger.
