Director's Note
A Note From the Director
Welcome, revolting children and patient adults, to our production of Matilda Jr.!
When we first began this whirlwind journey just three weeks ago, with our incredible cast of 44 students, I knew we had found our Matilda, our Miss Honey, and even our very own Trunchbulls. We only had 14 rehearsals, which, for those keeping score, is about as much time as it takes for Bruce Bogtrotter to eat a single chocolate cake. It’s been an exhilarating and challenging ride, but watching our cast—from 3rd to 11th grade—work so hard has made me extraordinarily proud. Their dedication to this story of revolting children and a girl who loves books, and their remarkable growth in such a short time, has been deeply inspiring. They have reminded all of us what it means to be naughty in the best possible way—by breaking the rules of what's possible and exceeding every expectation.
This show simply wouldn't have been possible without our amazing team. A huge thank you to our choreographer Megan, who taught 44 students to move as one unified, revolting force. To our musical director Rose, for guiding our cast to hit every note with passion and precision. To our associate director David, for his keen eye and steady hand. And to our costume designer Jessica, for her unending creativity in transforming a vision into a wardrobe of worms and newts. Your never-ending patience and artistic brilliance were the engine that brought this show to life.
And finally, to our massive team of volunteers—your hard work and selfless support were the very foundation of this show. You are the unsung heroes who built our world and painted our scenes, turning a simple stage into the fantastical setting you see before you.
We are so excited to finally share this show with you. By supporting educational theater, you are investing in the very heart of our community: our children. Theater is a sanctuary where they can find their voice, learn to be brave, and tell stories that can change hearts and minds. We hope you will continue to support the arts, so that we can keep the curtain rising for the next generation of storytellers.
Thank you for being here, and enjoy the show!
~ Dorothy
