IT IS FALL OF 2010. I AM A HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR IN A YOUTH PRODUCTION OF GODSPELL. OUR DIRECTOR HAS CREATIVELY SET THIS VERSION OF GODSPELL IN A 1930'S TRAVELING CARNIVAL AND WE ARE GIVEN HOMEWORK TO COME UP WITH A BACKSTORY FOR HOW OUR CHARACTER GOT TO THE CIRCUS. THAT ASSIGNMENT WOULD BECOME DOODLES AND SHORT STORIES ABOUT A KID ON THE RUN NAMED SCOTT ROBBINS...I AM A COLLEGE SENIOR AT AMDA LOS ANGELES AND I HEAR ABOUT A PROGRAM WHERE STUDENTS CAN PITCH, WORKSHOP AND PERFORM NEW WORKS THEY HAVE WRITTEN. I TAKE THE IDEAS, DRAWINGS AND STORIES I’VE CURATED OVER THE YEARS AND CREATE “SCOTT ROBBINS AND THE TRAVELING SHOW.” IT IS WORKSHOPPED AND PERFORMED AT AMDA IN FEBRUARY OF 2017. EVERY YEAR SINCE ITS PREMIER AT AMDA IN 2017, THERE HAS BEEN A NEW PRODUCTION OF SCOTT ROBBINS AND THE TRAVELING SHOW THAT IS PRODUCED. ALL THE WHILE, I DO NOT LET GO OF THE DREAM OF GETTING THIS STORY SEEN BY A BIGGER AND BROADER AUDIENCE. SCOTT ROBBINS IS A SHOW ABOUT AN OUTSIDER THAT IS ACCEPTED INTO A COMMUNITY AND VALUED BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS IN HIS HEART. I HOPE THIS SHOW CAN ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DREAM OF A WORLD FULL OF SINCERITY, MUSIC, WONDER, MAGIC AND HEART. AS WE SAY IN THE SHOW, “YOU ONLY GET THAT ONCE IN A LIFETIME CHANCE ONCE IN A LIFETIME,” AND I HOPE THIS SHOW ENCOURAGES OTHERS TO TAKE THAT ONCE IN A LIFETIME CHANCE OF THEIR OWN.
