Director's Note:

Long ago (about last March), I started writing a list of things I was interested in exploring in my next script. The list included visitors, loneliness, mimicry, parenthood, and, at the very top, storms. Both beautiful and dangerous, storms are a synergetic system of so many meteorological phenomena, and even with how much I’ve thought about them over the past year, I can’t say my fascination with them has worn off.

This is a story, at its most simple, about a boy and a storm. But it’s also about an anxious young couple navigating the complicated fears of their relationship, about a man learning to forgive himself, and about four strange spirits seeking sanctuary. It’s about inheritance; the things we have inherited and the things we will pass on, the ways we protect and harm ourselves and those who come after us. It’s about hoping for a better tomorrow against all odds, hoping that “one good person is worth all the fear.”

Above all else, though, this is a story about stories. Stories take many forms in this play. They come as narration, as song, as family secrets and inside jokes. They come from my own life, from the vulnerability inherent in watching eight reflections of myself interact onstage. They come from the hope that “words hold power in them”, that the right story told at the right time can have a profound impact on the world.

This cast and production team have worked so incredibly hard to put this show together, and I could not be prouder. I am truly blessed to make my directorial debut and premiere this script alongside such a phenomenally talented group. I hope you enjoy the show we have created. Thank you for supporting new work and for joining us for this story.
