Director's Note
As a director, the chance to work on a Stephen Sondheim piece, let alone a personal favorite such as Sweeney Todd, is almost impossible to refuse! Add to that this glorious cast we’ve gathered and the result has been an exciting journey into a world of love, passion, darkness and despair. Sondheim has crafted such an exquisite juxtaposition of
humor, happiness and pain that explodes onto the stage .The score is breathtaking. I am grateful to PPTOPA for the opportunity to helm this journey and am thrilled to have once again collaborated with music director Eric Alsford. We hope you enjoy this visit to Sweeney and Lovett’s London in our production. It’s been a wonderful experience, and
we dedicate our work to the master himself, Mr. Sondheim and to the memory of one of the finest performers in history – Ms. Angela Lansbury, (the original Mrs. Lovett) who passed away this month.
