Director's Note

The Addams Family is simply a fun musical that has so much nostalgia. I’m thankful to have a little taste of Halloween in July and be able to design such a gothic, campy and widely loved show.

This past year I had stepped away from kids shows to focus more on KCT’s adult side ACT. Though it has been truly a joy to work with the adults and be able to explore edgy and more mature pieces I truly missed working with the kids especially on this show. It was clear from auditions that these kids were not only excited for the show itself but were looking for a challenge. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of kids who not only pushed themselves but advocated regularly to try different things and expand their knowledge. Though this show isn’t known for a tap number, after weeks of the kids asking I found a place for it. I am truly blown away but the dedication and hard work these kids have given this show. Even throughout tech, they have pushed to learn new skills off the stage, two of the young performers helped me for hours meticulously put together the grandmother's cart, piece by piece, securing every tiny piece of trash, filling every empty spot and working alongside my design to bring it to life. Working with them reminded me exactly why I love working with kids.

I was lucky enough to come from a theatre family, and because of that I was able to have a lot more opportunity then most. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about how lucky I was to have the connections and opportunities given to me that many others did not. It has always been extremely important to me to give that back when I can. There is nothing more that I find rewarding than watching these young performers thrive, improve, and learn. I feel truly thankful that KCT has welcomed me back after a year off and I hope you are all as proud as I am about the work these kids have put in!
