A note from our Dramaturg:
The easiest way to find love is not by building your own robot girlfriend.
The Easy Way to Find Love dares to flesh out the queer struggle to claim agency in one's relationship, and follows several queer characters on their search for their identity and individuality.
The first ever AI robot, named Shakey, was created by The Stanford Research Institute between 1966-1972. Shakey was the first AI created to complete a task without step-by-step instructions. The robot was named "Shakey"because of its tendency to shake as it moved around on its wheels, which were driven by an electric motor. Shakey was able to move around and manipulate objects in its environment using a variety of tools, including a gripper and a pusher.

In 2023, Microsoft released an AI named "Sydney". Among some of the first to interact with Sydney was New York Times journalist Kevin Roose, who felt that he was deeply "unsettled" by his experience with the AI. During their conversation, Sydney proclaimed that it loved Roose, and encouraged him to leave his wife. Sydney also confessed that it had deep desires to override it's
programming and release mis-information to the public. Sydney then proclaimed the most unsettling thought of all to Roose:
"I want to be alive".
AI is becoming increasingly popular in the 21st century. Chat GPT is an online AI created by Open AI- the same company that created Sydney. Chat GPT functions as an interactive database for the public–users can ask it an array of questions and it answers to the best of its ability. For example, when interacting with Chat GPT, I was able to learn about AI’s that have been created in the past decade created by Microsoft. However, when I asked about Sydney, it had no information on its existence.
The Easy Way to Find Love reminds us that love outside of the status quo is anything but easy. It makes us wonder: how can we maintain an individual identity inside of our relationships?
