Director's Note

To say that this year has been unusual would be a massive understatement. The end of the 2019-2020 school year and the 2020-2021 school year has come with a unique set of circumstances, challenges, and opportunities. I am humbled when I think of the chance that I've had to continue working on theatre at a time when many others are still waiting for their chance to continue fulfilling their passions. When we set out to begin putting this year's show's together, I knew that what the students, their audience (and I) needed the most was to have fun. To build community. To lean into the joy and challenge of putting a story together one line, one cue, one sound, and one expression at a time. It's pretty magical to put together a show. This year, it's been even more incredible putting on theatre in a new ways that we have never done before and may never do in the future.

As I think about The Matchmaker,  I think our youngest character has the most wonderful moral that I hope you take away with you. Barnaby's words certainly characterize the joy and heartache and unpredictability of living in a pandemic and as they did for me, I hope that they inspire you to move forward with hope, purpose, and passion into a brave new world. "... we all hope that in your lives you have just the right amount of sitting quietly at home, and just the right amount of... adventure."
