Director's Note

As a junior in college, I was cast as Polonius in my school’s pseudo-experimental, pseudo-post-modern production of Hamlet. For several nonsensical reasons, the creative team made Polonius a wheelchair-bound war veteran. (I know. Ick.) One night, upon my death in Act 3, Hamlet wheeled my carcass out from my hiding place and accidentally undid my wheel brakes. I began rolling down the set’s steeply raked platform towards the gaping maw of the orchestra pit.

I remember my mind racing for a solution, one eye squinting open to gauge how much distance and time I had left till certain injury. All I knew for sure was, I was not going to break character. I was dead! While Hamlet saved me in time, the incident was the talk of community the rest of the run. And it’s my favorite memory as an actor.

Few experiences beat the thrill of the first curtain call – when you finally put your work before a live audience, and the months or years of toil pay off. It’s so exhilarating because, until the audience is there, you really don’t know if it all works. The only sensation that beats it? Honestly, it’s the moment of a mistake. It’s so precious because (hopefully) it will never repeat itself, you honestly don’t know what comes next, and everyone watching knows it to be the case. That liveness is what makes theatre . . . theatre. This silly little play is a celebration of living in that unknown. By the time you leave today, I hope you’ll agree: there’s nothing like it.

Meet the Company

Jochebed Gwamna

Annie

Jochebed will be debuting at CCBC with this play. She has appeared in her high school’s productions of Tartuffe, Huckleberry Finn, Macbeth, and Fools. She also played Mary in Trinity Christian Colleges, showing of a collection of Medieval Plays. She aspires to be an actress on stage and on camera.

Myles Rigsby

Myles is in his first year at CCBC and is also in his inaugural CCBC production. In high school, he appeared in The Story of Mrs. Claus and 11 Variations of Friar John’s Failure, where he also learned stage combat and non-verbal communication.

Jarod Johnson

Chris/Inspector Carter

Jarod enters his first performance at CCBC. Acting since he was in 11th grade, he has appeared in A Soldier's Story, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Beauty and the Beast at Owings Mills High School. He also appeared in a 10-minute play festival at Bowie State University. Jarod plans to continue acting at CCBC and beyond for as long as he can.

Mel returns to the CCBC stage after last spring’s production of Goya: en la Quinta del Sordo. A CCBC alumni and UMBC Acting BFA major, Mel is happy to be back for the fall.

Tatiyana J. Terrelonge

Tatiyana is a third-year theatre major at CCBC. She appeared in the Spring 2023 production of Hotel Cassiopeia as Matta/The Girl, and in the Fall 2022 production of We Are Proud to Present as Actor 6. She is excited for her role in The Play That Goes Wrong. Tatiyana has also appeared in The Wiz and Annie at EYD Performing Arts. She plans to take her career farther into theatre and film acting.

Aaron returns to the CCBC stage after appearing in the 2022 Directors Fest. He was featured in scenes from The Harvest by Samuel D. Hunter and The Lion King (as Scar). He has also performed as renowned scientist Dr. Luis Alvarez at the 2022 CCBC Gala at Martin's West.

Addi Stashik

Addi has a deep love for anything of the arts, most of their interests including digital art, singing, creative writing, and of course, theatre. It is their first semester in college, and they are ecstatic to be back at it again on stage! Addi first started getting involved with live theatre at Dulaney High School, their first ever show being in the ensemble for The Wizard of Oz. Their last year at Dulaney became Year of the Cowboy, and they played Quincey Morris in Dracula for the Fall play and Cowboy Bob/Ensemble in Footloose for the Spring musical. With the start of a new journey, Addi hopes to earn an A.F.A. degree and transfer to a 4-year college in continuation of their theatre education, one day striving for true comfort in self-expression and finding a place in professional live theatre.

Caelyn is appearing in their second CCBC show. Last fall they performed the part of Lillie Anne in their CCBC debut in Barbecue. Cae is a second-year theater major at CCBC, after being in drama classes and performing in plays throughout childhood. Previous credits include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Around the World in 8 Plays, and a comedic adaption of the story of Little Red and Robin Hood. Cae plans to pursue entertainment in any way they can, as that is what fulfills them and provides a purpose; however, they will figure out which way that will lead in the future.
