TIME/SETTING

The action takes place on board the Orca, on the open waters east of Martha’s Vineyard between East Chop and Oak Bluffs. There are 11 scenes, each a different day spanning several weeks from August through October 1974.

Bob Beare

Robert Shaw
Bob Beare - Robert Shaw Bob recently played the title role of THE MCADO and the Duke in THE GONDELIERS at Gilbert and Sullivan Austin. Local roles: Frank Sr. in CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, Emile in SOUTH PACIFIC (CTX best actor nom), Admiral Peary in RAGTIME at ZACH theatre, Leduc in Arthur Miller’s INCIDENT AT VICHY, and directed THREE VIEWINGS (B. Iden Payne nom) and BLOOD BROTHERS at Trinity Street Players. Bob is the composer/lyricist of the romantic musical comedy THE THREE-CORNERED HAT. His favorite role is as grateful dad to his filmmaker daughter, Angy.

Will Gibson Douglas

Richard Dreyfuss
Will Gibson Douglas - Richard Dreyfuss Will is an Austin-based, award-nominated actor, director and producer. He is the Managing Director at Jarrott Productions, with whom he has appeared in SIGNIFICANT OTHER and LIFESPAN OF A FACT, receiving B. Iden Payne award nominations for both, and directed HOME, I’M DARLING (B. Iden Payne award nomination) and the world premieres of two Max Langert plays—THE PACT and A MILLION MORE TO GO. He is also a company member at The VORTEX, where he most recently directed the "Cyclops" segment of THE VORTEX ODYSSEY and has appeared in CLICK and THE TEMPEST. He frequently appears in Different Stages productions such as THE BOOK CLUB PLAY, GREAT EXPECTATIONS (B. Iden Payne Award Nominee), YANKEE TAVERN, 4000 MILES, and DRACULA. Other acting credits include: DEX & ABBY (Ground Floor Theatre), THE VINEYARD (Heartland Theatre Collective), DNA (Capital T Theatre) and many more. He also received a B. Iden Payne Award Nomination for his direction of George Bernard Shaw’s HEARTBREAK HOUSE for Different Stages.

Jim Lindsay

Roy Scheider
Jim Lindsay - Roy Scheider Jim debuts with Jarrott Productions but is no stranger to TSP having directed KINDERTRANSPORT in 2018 and played Mickey in BLOOD BROTHERS in 2012. He directed IT'S ONLY A PLAY, NUNSENSE, RUTHLESS and PAGEANT (City Theatre), which was revived with Stage Austin and nominated for seven B. Iden Payne awards, including best director. Others include THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (ATP), YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN (Wimberley), and MAME (Georgetown Palace). Stage roles include Juror 8 in 12 ANGRY MEN and David in THE TWILIGHT OF THE GOLDS (City), Bruce in FUN HOME and Dan in NEXT TO NORMAL (Ground Floor Theatre), the latter of which garnered him a BIP Best Actor award in 2020.

David R. Jarrott

Director
David created this theatre company whose first production (FREUD'S LAST SESSION) was staged in 2015. THE SHARK IS BROKEN is our 20th Main Stage production, with another 4 Digital Stage productions, and 2 workshop productions, 10 of which he has directed. He is grateful for the many artists who have contributed to the success of Jarrott Productions over the years. As a theatre lifer (stage debut at age 10 in spring of 1955), David also had a 40-year career as a #1-rated radio personality, and is a 2011 inductee in the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. He has also worked extensively in advertising and television as an on-air talent, writer, producer and director.

Lisa Goering

Production Manager
Lisa is thrilled to be working with Jarrott Productions again. Lisa has worked as a stage manager for shows including: HEDDA GABLER, AS YOU LIKE IT, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (Austin Shakespeare); THE WHO'S TOMMY, RAGTIME, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, RENT, HAIRSPRAY (ZACH Theatre); LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (Zilker Theatre Productions); IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE: A RADIO PLAY (Penfold Theatre Company); MIDDLETOWN, A FLEA IN HER EAR (St. Edward’s University); and LA TRAVIATA (Butler School of Music). Lisa has also worked as an ASM for Austin Opera, and as the Production Manager for LOLA and Zilker Theatre Productions. In addition, Lisa works as a costume technician locally and regionally.

Jennifer A. Anderson

Production Stage Manager
With Jarrott Productions as Production Stage Manager: HOME, I’M DARLING, MOTHER OF THE MAID, SIGNIFICANT OTHER. With Jarrott Productions as Production Manager: POTUS, A MILLION MORE TO GO, HOME, I’M DARLING, DEATHTRAP. Other Stage Manager credits include MATILDA! THE MUSICAL and FOOTLOOSE with Zilker Theatre Productions and THE SEAGULL and WOLF HALL with Austin Shakespeare. As Assistant Stage Manager with Austin Opera for 8 productions: FLIGHT, THE ITALIAN GIRL IN ALGIERS, LA TRAVIATA, HANSEL AND GRETEL, L’ÉTOILE, LA BOHÉME, DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES, RIGOLETTO. Jennifer spent three seasons as Artistic Administrator for Spotlight on Opera and was a production assistant, crew member, stage manager, and house manager at ZACH from 2005 to 2009.

Daniel is originally from Odessa, Texas and has a background in mechanical engineering. THE SHARK IS BROKEN will be his second production as Technical Director for JP, after working on A MILLION MORE TO GO. He is also a resident technical associate for The VORTEX for 3 years and ongoing, with credits for EDIT ANNIE, DRAGONFLY PRINCESS, UNDARK, CABAREX 1, 2, and 3, THRIVE OR WHAT YOU WILL, SUNNY DAYS, the MALUM MALUS burlesque show, and MUTTKRACKER. Daniel also serves as technical director for Different Stages, including on WATER BY THE SPOONFUL, THE TAVERN, MISS LULU BETT, and Agatha Cristie's A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED.

Steve Williams

Scenic Charge Artist
Steve is happy to get creative with another Jarrott Productions show. Most recently, he was the set designer for last season’s DEATHTRAP. As an actor, Steve was seen in THE HERD. Other credits include: DEATH BY BAD JOKES (lighting design), SIDESHOW (Houdini, set design), BLOOD BROTHERS (Narrator, set design) and OUR TOWN (Mr. Webb). All with Trinity Street Players. Steve is the Technical Director for Trinity Street Players.

Aaron Flynn

Costume Designer
Aaron has been designing costumes for theater since 2015, and this is his fourth show with Jarrott Productions. The love affair began with ADMISSIONS, continued with LIFESPAN OF A FACT, THE PACT, and THE SOUND INSIDE, and shows no sign of slowing down. Aaron also designed The VORTEX's current show, RABBITS, and the upcoming UTNT production, ONCE IN A HUNDRED YEARS. As always, a huge thank you to Austin’s theater community for its warmth, grace, imagination, and endurance.

Craig R. Brock

Sound Designer
Craig has worked as a recording engineer and music producer since 1989, and served as the resident sound designer at ZACH Theatre for 8 seasons. For Jarrott Productions: FREUD'S LAST SESSION; THE PRICE; THE NICETIES; THE FROG PRINCE; PET DICK; THE PACT; THE SOUND INSIDE; MOTHER OF THE MAID; DEATHTRAP; HOME, I'M DARLING; A MILLION MORE TO GO; and many others. Brooke Sauerwein

Audio Engineer
Brooke is a recent graduate from Texas State University with her BFA in Theatre Technical Production. She last worked for JP on POTUS, when she was mouth Sound Designer and Audio Engineer. Her favorite productions to work on at Texas State were RENT, MACBETH, SHE KILLS MONSTERS, and URINETOWN. She's had the privilege of working with the Santa Fe Opera as an A/V Apprentice on operas such as LA TRAVIATA, DON GIOVANNI, DER ROSENKAVALIER, and THE RIGHTEOUS (World Premiere). She's currently working as a freelance audio extraordinaire in the greater Austin area.

Kaitlyn Hartnagel

Props Designer
Kaitlyn is a current student at Texas State University studying Technical Theatre. This is her 3rd show with Jarrott Productions. Previous credits include: Prop Manager: DEATHTRAP (Jarrott Productions), A MILLION MORE TO GO (Jarrott Productions), POTUS (Jarrott Productions), WHEN THOU WAKEST (TXST), and OH TO BE PURE AGAIN (TXST).
