The Silver Hall Concert Series Presents:

CWRU Homecoming ShowCASE

Thank you for joining us here at the Milton and Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center at the Temple-Tifereth Israel on the campus of Case Western Reserve University. And thank you and welcome to those joining us via livestream. We are so excited that you are all here to support the student organizations performing for the Second Annual Homecoming showCASE, as a part of our Silver Hall Concert Series.

The Silver Hall Concert Series at the Maltz Performing Arts Center showcases the Case Western Reserve community as well as local Cleveland ensembles, highlighting the cultural diversity and depth of talent coursing through this city; and we are so happy tonight to be able to showcase that depth and diversity as exhibited by CWRU's student led clubs and ensembles.

SHCS is always free, and always livestreamed, to insure that as many people, in as many places as possible, can celebrate CWRU, and Cleveland, alongside us - and you.

Tonight you will see 8 different groups who all bring their own unique talents to this campus and we are extremely excited to showcase their talent!

The Performers:

Dhamakapella

Case Western's competitive, three-time national champion South Asian fusion a cappella group. They derive their influences from Indian classical, contemporary South Asian film, and Western pop genres.

Klover

CWRU’s premier K-pop dance club! Their mission is to create an outlet for our members to freely express their creativity and their goal is also to share the K-Pop community and culture with those who are less familiar with it. You can find them on instagram @ klovercwru for open house dance workshop information and performance dates.

Spartan Tappers

CWRU's only tap dance group on campus. They perform at various events across campus, and offer lessons every Tuesday which are open to all levels of dancers.

Solstice A Cappela

Case Western Reserve University's only historically all treble a cappella group. Founded in the fall of 2003, they dedicate themselves to providing students with the opportunity to learn, perform, and grow through a cappella. For updates, check out their instagram page @cwrusolstice .

Case Glee Club

A gender-inclusive tenor bass choral ensemble. Since its founding in 1897, it has been the longest continuously running student organization at CWRU with continuous goals of building camaraderie with fellow singers, and sharing music with the CWRU campus and University Circle communities.

Nritya

Case Western Reserve University’s premier Indian classical dance team. They accept dancers with any Indian classical background and most recently, have featured Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, and Odissi dancers. They enjoy performing on and off campus with pieces that portray meaningful stories from Hindu mythology, historical events, contemporary events, and enjoy pairing classical dance steps to western music. They also perform and compete nationally on the Indian classical dance circuit. Nritya is always looking to build their team, and welcomes anyone with roots in Indian classical dance forms.

Case In Point

CWRU’s premier all-voices pop a cappella ensemble, established in 2001. It is entirely student-run, and all of their repertoire is arranged by current or former members. Case in Point accepts singers and beatboxers of all voice parts and levels of musical experience into their tight-knit community. You can find them performing at gigs all over the CWRU campus, opening for professional talent such as Jay Leno, and competing yearly in the International Competition of Collegiate A Cappella, where they’ve previously taken second place in the Midwest semifinals. You can find them on Instagram at @cipacappella and can stream their music, such as their latest EP ‘Breakthrough,’ on all major platforms.

Undivided

Case Western’s premier hip-hop dance crew. Their goal is to share a love of dance and build community with all students on campus and beyond! They host weekly Monday AND Saturday classes from beginner to advanced hip-hop styles and everyone is open to attend!

A Note from the Maltz Center Director

This breathtaking venue

It’s like this wonderful secret that we really don’t want to keep. Everyone in Cleveland recognizes the Golden Dome and our building, but everyone is surprised to find out that there’s a fully modernized performing arts center under that roof.  Welcome to the Maltz Performing Arts Center. We hope you share your experience with the world.

Nestled right here at the opening of the Opportunity Corridor, in the heart of University Circle, the Maltz Performing Arts Center, formerly known as Silver’s Temple, was fully renovated in 2015, in a landmark partnership between Case Western Reserve University and The Temple Tiffereth Israel, with generous support from Milton and Tamar Maltz. Since then, the growth of our community has been amazing.

Now we're entering the building's 100th year as a community gathering hub, and we're celebrating the opening of this treasured Cleveland landmark with our most expansive season of music to date.  This season is a bit of a birthday celebration, but also an invitation.

As we celebrate, we do so as a continuation of the unique tradition of this beloved building: to bring together Cleveland’s diverse population with a sense of community, education, and JOY.

What better way to do that, then to come together with music?

It's a World of Music

Community

The Maltz Center offers free and low cost programming, family fare and state of the art livestreaming options, so that we can bring a world of music to our ENTIRE Cleveland community, both nearby and around the world.

Education

This season underscores the Maltz Center’s commitment to education. We will host CWRU’s Department of Music, alongside events featuring the Cleveland Institute of Music, Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony, and the Contemporary Youth Orchestra. It’s an extraordinary opportunity to support the next generation of musicians while enjoying the finest performances Cleveland has to offer.

JOY

Here we are. Welcome to our New Season!

Nine performance series’, Hundreds of events, and you

This season is the Maltz Center's most ambitious to date, offering vibrant lineups different than anything else in Cleveland. From the haunting melodies of Mongolian folk blues to the exhilarating power of your favorite movie soundtracks as performed by an 80-piece orchestra, the variety of music is simply dizzying.

The Something Different at Silver Hall series - something close to my heart - is back. The Cleveland Pride Band brings the fun all season. The Silver Hall Concert Series is bigger and better than ever and completely free. Cleveland Jazz Orchestra celebrates 40. Writers Center Stage continues with star-studded authors, and there’s more music than we’ve ever presented in one season.

With such a wide array of events, this season at the Maltz Performing Arts Center is more than just a birthday celebration for a building. It’s a celebration of the history and spirit of Cleveland. Whether you're a long-time patron, a first-time visitor, or just curious, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Welcome, and thanks so much for being a part of a very special season.

-Jason
