Directors’ Note

Welcome to JHS’s production of The Wizard of Oz! We are thrilled to finally bring this beloved classic to life on our stage.

As directors, this show holds a special place in both of our hearts. Whether it was watching the film as children, performing in it ourselves, or experiencing the magic of Oz in different ways throughout the years, The Wizard of Oz has always been a story that inspires us. The journey of Dorothy and her friends—full of courage, heart, and wisdom—reminds us all that sometimes, the things we are searching for have been within us all along.

We hope you enjoy this journey “somewhere over the rainbow” as much as we have. Thank you for supporting the arts at JHS—sit back, relax, and let us take you to the wonderful land of Oz!

Madi Lettimore - Flute

I’m Madi Lettimore and I am a senior in high school. I play flute in the pit and this is my first time playing in a live pit. I have played the flute since I was in 6th grade. I hope to continue to play flute in college. I want to thank my mom for always pushing me to be my best. I would also like to thank my best friends Lizzie and Jessica for pushing me to try something new.

Lacie Wankel - Reeds
Hi my name is Lacie Wankel. I've played the clarinet since 6th grade and it has helped me through some hard mental patches to be in music. Both of my older brothers were also in band class. I have thought myself how to play tenor sax as well, but clarinet will always be my passion. I can't wait for you to enjoy the show and the music it includes.

Carly Rife - Reeds

Hello! My name is Carly Rife and I’m a freshman here at JHS. I am involved with marching symphonic band, jazz band, and orchestra. Wizard of Oz is the first production I am involved in, though. For Wizard of Oz pit I am playing clarinet, bass clarinet, and saxophone but I play many other instruments in class and in my free time. I would like to thank LaSalle and everyone in the music department for making a great place to be myself (even if I can be a bit weird sometimes). I would also like to thank them for pushing me out of my comfort zone because, if not, I wouldn’t have improved on anything this year. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the show!

Landen Copley - Trumpet

Edgar Galeana - Trumpet

I am Edgar Galeana! This is my first time playing in a musical pit! I’ve been playing the trumpet for 5 years now.

Fun Fact: I can growl on my trumpet.

Westyn Leonard - Trombone

Ivan Shade - Percussion

Hello, I’m Ivan Shade, a freshman here at JHS. I’ve been playing percussion for more than seven years. I was never much of a theater kid in previous years, besides the yearly Christmas play in elementary school, but I only ever had one major role during my last year before going to JMS. Anyway, maybe being in this orchestra pit setting may bridge that gap? We’ll see. Hope this production of the Wizard of Oz is the best you’ll see! (At least for high schoolers :))

Ace Brunk - Percussion

Hello my name is Ace Brunk, I’m a Junior of Jacksonville high school and I’ve been involved with the music department for six years. Fun fact I’m hard of hearing. Being involved with music events makes me feel like I can be myself and I love being able to work with my friends. So sit back and enjoy the show!

Dylan Connors - String Synth

Aurora Mauzy-French Horn

Hi, I'm Aurora or Rori, and I'm 15. This is my 7th production and I'm hoping to keep counting. I've been in band for going on 10 years now and I continue to learn many instruments. Each show I've been in I have worked backstage or been in the cast, but I have been given the gift to use my passion for music to be in the orchestra. I started playing the french horn two years ago and so I wanna thank LaSalle who helped me so much to challenge myself and get better. I also wanna thank my friends who have helped me get to where I am such as Avery, Bryson, Cadence, and Ally. I hope you enjoy our show as much as we've enjoyed working on it.

Ally Crays - GIRLS CHORUS/ LULLABY LEAGUE/ POPPY/POLISHER/ JITTERBUG/OZIAN WOMAN Greetings! My name is Ally Crays and I am a junior here at Jacksonville High School. Prior to this year’s fall play, I was too timid to perform on stage, so I operated the light booth. However this year, I decided to face my fears and act, hence where I am now. I have to say I could not have gotten to this point without my amazing friends, many I’ve made just this year from being in theater, and my amazing directors and family. Also a big thanks to them all for allowing me to concoct the designs for the shirts and posters of the productions these past two years, it honors me to make art for such meaningful events.

Addie Gibson - OZIAN GUARD/ CITY FATHER/ TINMAN UNDERSTUDY Hey, I’m Addie Gibson and I’m a Senior. In my four years at JHS, I have been in the play every year and this year is my second musical. I have been in love with theater since I was little and it has really helped me come out of my shell. Theater has allowed me to take up challenges, try new things, and boosted my confidence. I want to thank Mrs. Smith for really sparking my love for theater and pushing me to do my best at JMS. I also want to thank the directors for trusting me and for providing an environment to create such happy memories. Lastly, I want to thank the cast and crew members that have been so kind to me.

BRAGGART/ TREE/ POLISHER/ WINKIE
Renae Goodsell - BRAGGART/ TREE/ POLISHER/ WINKIE My name is Renae Goodsell, and I'm a sophomore here at JHS. I started my first play when I was roughly five or six, and theater has been a huge part of my life ever since. I took a short time where I didn't act, but my eighth grade year switched that back for me. That said, I want to give a huge thanks to both Ms. Smiths at JMS, since they were the ones to bring me back to theater. I also really want to thank Frau and Mrs. Soltermann for making the Wizard of Oz happen. I think that two of my absolute favorite plays to be in were Dracula in my freshman year, and The Holiday Christmas Movie Wonderthon this past fall. I'd also like to give a huge thanks to both of my parents for encouraging theater for me, and especially to my mom for helping me run lines and for spending so much time helping to find plays for me to partake in before I started doing theater at school.

I've been in theater since I was 8 years old, starting my theater career at the Playhouse at the Square. Since then, I've tried every opportunity to be in a show. My first high school show was School of Rock when I was in seventh grade. Last summer I was in The Legacy Theater's production of "Hello, Dolly!" and last year I was in JHS' production of Godspell, where I performed 'We Beseech Thee'. Some of my favorite shows I've been in are Godspell, Hello, Dolly!, and The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon. My family has been one of my biggest supporters through the years. During the school year I'm in Speech Team as well as Madrigals and Concert Choir, where I sing tenor. I've had so much fun at rehearsals working with Frau and Mrs. Soltermann. Thanks to them, my confidence in theater and singing has really improved since last year. I'd also like to thank one of my best friends, Hannah Warren, for giving me rides home from rehearsal! Bryson Lauder

SCHOOL TEACHER/ CROW/ POLISHER/ WINKIE
Hello! My name is Bryson Lauder and I am a freshman this year. I first did theatre my 7th grade year. I worked backstage for the fall play and I was actually on stage for that spring musical. The musical was SchoolHouse Rock Live jr. and I will NEVER forget that feeling of hearing the audience clap for the first time. That was the first time I ever understood why my friends liked theatre so much. Wizard of Oz has always (and forever will be) My favorite movie so getting to be in this cast with all these wonderful people is truly an amazing experience! I enjoy making props as well. In fact, a few props you will see in this show may have been made by me! Outside of theatre, I also really like playing the violin and swimming. I would like to thank my family for always supporting me. It means the world! I would also like to thank Cooper Stowers and Bailey Pollard for getting me into theatre. If they didn't drag me to auditions my 7th grade year I wouldn’t have even considered being on a stage. I would also like to thank Frau for constantly pushing me to get out of my shell and allowing me to implement my creativity into the shows!

Theatre wasn’t a thing that I thought of doing at first but after the first play I was in, I started to think it was fun and decided to try the musical. This is the first musical I’ve ever done but I love singing and having fun.
