We asked the Directors to tell us their favorite moment/scene in The Wizard of Oz:
"I’ve seen The Wizard of Oz more times than I can count, and every time, the moment that touches me most is when Dorothy realizes she’s had everything she needed all along. There’s something so beautiful about that idea, that the love, strength, and courage we search for are already within us. It reminds me of the people in my life who believed in me when I couldn’t see it in myself. That moment always brings me back to them, and to the importance of home, both the place and the people who make it feel that way." Andrew Kolarcik, Stage Director
"One of my favorite moments in The Wizard of Oz is when Dorothy discovers that she had the power to go home within herself all along and says, “If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own backyard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with.” That moment always brings tears to my eyes!" Maria Castillo Maddy, Vocal Director
"My favorite scene in The Wizard of Oz is the iconic Poppies scene - I love the moment when the delicate snow lands on the petals of the poppies!" Kevin Perry, Choreographer/Dance Swing
"My favorite moment from the Wizard of Oz (movie) is the change from Black and White to Color as soon as Dorothy arrives in the Land of Oz!" Kevin Faller, Musical Director

With a curly gray coat and a heart full of joy, Rosie brings her signature smile, nonstop tail wags, and boundless positive energy to every performance--even when facing a wicked witch. Offstage, Rosie works as a therapy dog, spreading comfort and cheer wherever she goes. She never meets a stranger, adores pets and treats, and has quickly become a beloved member of the cast and crew, keeping spirits high backstage with her silly, happy nature. Handled by Chandra Shorter (a SME alumnus), Rosie has absolutely loved her first theatrical adventure and all the new friends she's made along the Yellow Brick Road. She hopes this is just the beginning of many more paws-itively wonderful roles to come!

Andrew Kolarcik
Andrew Kolarcik is honored and excited to return to Summer Musical Enterprise, this time directing the RSC version of The Wizard of Oz. After serving as Assistant Director for SME’s production of Mary Poppins last summer, Andrew couldn’t resist the chance to bring another beloved classic to life. An experience that inspired him to join SME’s Board of Directors and deepen his commitment to local theatre.
Andrew’s passion for theatre began on stage, performing in beloved productions such as Brigadoon, Beauty and the Beast, and The Drowsy Chaperone, eventually leading him to found and direct numerous shows with the Schenectady Dramatic Players at SUNY Schenectady. He continues performing whenever possible, most recently appearing in SME’s original murder mystery, Girls Just Want to Kill Ron.
Dedicated to keeping music central in his life, Andrew regularly participates in local theatre productions and continues private lessons in voice and piano, also enjoying guitar and oboe. Before pursuing his current studies in Aerospace Engineering at Virginia Tech, Andrew studied Vocal Performance at SUNY Schenectady. Outside the arts, he serves as a Supervisor Assistant with Blacksburg Transit.
Andrew deeply cherishes the SME community and is profoundly grateful for their warmth, support, and for welcoming him with open arms. With gratitude, he lovingly dedicates this production to the memory of Deborah May, whose unwavering support profoundly shaped his artistic path, and to Jessica Crisci, whose guidance continually inspires him. Above all, Andrew thanks his parents and sister, whose love and encouragement fuel his passion for storytelling.

As the curtain rises on this magical production of The Wizard of Oz, I find myself watching from a new seat----not at the "head of the table", but among the many who believe deeply in the power of this organization and its mission. For 15 years, I had the honor of serving as Chairperson, and for the majority of shows as Producer, helping to guide this incredible community through seasons of storytelling, song and shared dreams.
This production marks our first journey down the Yellow Brick Road since I stepped down from that leadership role. To see the stage filled with talent, heart, and imagination reminds me that the spirit of SME is stronger than one person----it lives in every performer, volunteer, patron, and supporter who believes in what we do.
Thank you for being part of this next chapter. There's no place like home----and SME has always been mine.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Cindy Blevins
Former Chairperson and #1 Fan
