President's Message
Hey Pals,
Thank you for joining us for this evening’s performance of the DC’s Different Drummers Symphonic Band, under the baton of Anthony Conto Oakley. I am so delighted to be a part of this organization that has for over 45 years been a place for LGBTQ+ and ally musicians and performers to come together for fellowship, artistry, community, and visibility.
The Symphonic Band’s Fall 2025 is themed “Unapologetically Human – From Stillness to Spectacle.” What a strong message and program to remind us all who we are and who we will always be, especially in the face of constant political, social, and cultural uncertainty. Our rainbow community has a way of coming together and lifting each other up, and we certainly won’t stop now.
Tonight, we will perform works both familiar and new to you, our audience. From the classical masterpiece Carmina Burana to the thrillifying and rejoicifyingly fun Selections from Wicked, and everything in between, this program has something for everyone.
Thank you again for supporting DC’s Different Drummers. As you leave tonight’s concert, remember no matter what comes next, “you've always had the power, my dears, you just had to learn it for yourself.” If you are interested in connecting with DCDD as a performer, volunteer, donor, or business partner, please do not hesitate to reach out. I hope to hear from you soon!
With My Sincere Gratitution,
Tim

Notes of Dedication
A dedication of unBroken to Anthony Casey.
- Sean Casey
For my parents, who have always supported my musical endeavors. Without their enthusiasm, I would not be the player I am today and I am eternally grateful for everything they've given me. They have lifted me high enough to defy gravity.
- Shelley Collins, dedicating Wicked
To my guiding beacons, I would be lost in the darkness without the light of your unconditional love, unwavering support, and friendship. Thank you Mike, Kai, Rai, Jenni, and everyone else for believing in me. I love and appreciate you all.
- Kimothy Do, dedicating unBroken
To Kelly,
Here's to 15 years of friendship, and hopefully many more.
"Who can say if I've been changed for the better? But because I knew you, I have been changed for good."
- Charlotte Volpe, dedicating Wicked

An organization like DC’s Different Drummers requires the time, energy, and support of many names beyond those listed above. Our musicians and performers give countless hours not just preparing for concerts and shows, but also in service of DCDD’s everyday logistical needs. Thank you to the volunteers, both from within our ensembles and also from our broader community, who lead our committees, plan and execute events, manage equipment, usher at performances, and more!
Mission Statement
DC's Different Drummers is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and ally music and performing arts organization welcoming musicians and performers of ALL skill levels as it fosters pride, inclusivity, and engagement with the greater Washington, D.C. region through music and artistic performance.
ABOUT US
DCDD is an all-volunteer adult musical and performing arts organization that serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community (and friends) of the D.C. metropolitan area. The membership ranges from college and university-trained musicians, to those who played in school and returned to their instruments later in life. Our main ensembles are the DCDD Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Color Guard; additionally, small ensembles are available for hire.
DC's Different Drummers is a 501(c)(3) organization, and contributions may be considered fully tax-deductible depending on your tax status. We are a participant in the Jon Sims Endowment Fund, founding members of the Pride Bands Alliance, proud members of Team DC, and Pride Partners of the Capital Pride Alliance.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions
Perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.
Let him step to to the music which he hears,
However measured or far away.
