AUTHORS’ NOTE:

Wellness Wednesday is a Coming-of-Age Psychedelic Dramedy about five college roommates taking acid together during their day off. This one-act play takes place in 2021, after the Dean announces Spring Break is canceled in exchange for Wellness Wednesdays. What follows is a soul-searching trippy day focused on the ephemeral qualities of youth amid the pressures of impending adulthood, all within unprecedented times.

This play is about five people running out of time together. All families have an expiration date. Divorce, loss, and separation are constant in young adulthood. People leave their old lives behind, craft a new identity, build a home with those who are around, only to leave it behind just as they started figuring it out.

Psychedelics offer perspective. They pull back our masks and surface feelings that are filed away. For many, Covid offered the same trip. A forced internal reckoning that felt like it would never end. People relinquished control, sat with ugly truths they had been avoiding, and discovered something new about themselves and the world.

This story is about moving on into an unknown future. It’s anxious and messy, and very ambiguous. Nothing is truly resolved in a day, but interpretations should nod to how it all can work out.

Eventually.
