Director's Note

Company is a fascinating piece of work. Basing the plot on emotion, rather than sequential events makes for unique challenges and wonderful opportunities.

When we originally staged the show in early 2020, we had no idea how deeply the themes of the show were about to be ingrained into the daily lives of nearly everyone on Earth. Company is about a man having an existential crisis while thinking about his own loneliness and rather empty relationships.

After COVID, what better way to have the impact an audience than to set it during Quarantine, when we all struggled to find connection and meaning.

As Bobby searches for purpose and finally realizes that it is okay to simply be, I hope we all find comfort in the knowledge that wherever we are on life’s journey, that we are truly okay. Company can also be overwhelmingly cynical. We have discussed at many points in this show that we don’t want to hide away from the uglier parts of relationships, but we also want to show the sweetness and joy that can come as well. Relationships are difficult and complicated, but that does not negate their worth and how they can make us better people, in whatever form those relationships come.

Our characters find joy in their relationships, whether they are traditional or not. I hope we can find that same joy and build stronger connections to the people in our lives. After two years of hard work, multiple actor replacements, sweat and tears, I am so excited to finally welcome you to Midvale Main Street Theatre’s production of Company: A Musical Comedy.

Fundraising Note

Due to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Midvale Main St Theatre has, in large part,  remained closed since March 2019. We have been lucky enough to be able to put on 2 shows since we reopened, but one production was cut short. MMST also values the safety of their performers and patrons, and respect the guidelines established to keep the community safe. For over a year now, the stage has remained dark, and ticket sales have been non-existent. Without the ability to seat an audience, they simply cannot go on.

Since 2008, MMST has been run by the talents, time, and humble means of one family who have a passion to share honest and important stories with their community. Unlike larger venues, MMST receives no outside funding or state grants. It is supported through tickets sales from previous productions and through the work of many volunteers.

Humble beginnings are what make MMST’s mission so special. Along with its’ unique productions, it is also home to a youth program which provides education to the future generation of performers, free of charge. Giving opportunities to children of all socioeconomic backgrounds, ensuring no child is without an opportunity to discover their passion for the arts.

Help us save this treasured piece of our community’s history, and ensure that their stories can continue being told.
