After finding the spotlight winning the title of LITTLE MISS BEAUFORT South Carolina at age 4 Koutrakos was center-stage bound. Barely getting through High School- holding on to both the musicals and the Battle of the Bands she has ended up straddling both musical worlds her entire career. Once in NYC in the 80's Koutrakos was headlining with Andrew Dice Clay at Dangerfields while at the same time being probably the youngest "Downtown Diva" with a 12 piece rock band in sold out clubs like the Limelight, Studio 54, The Palladium and the Ritz. She has shared stages with The Bacon Brothers, Phoebe Snow, David Brenner, Curtis Mayfield, David Johansen, The Uptown Horns, Amanda McBroom, Maureen McGovern, Tom Wopat and so on.... The 90's and early 2000's saw her fronting her own band with her original rock music doing decades long residencies at the Legendary Bottom Line, and later Joe's Pub along with many a sold out shows at BB Kings and Fez. With pop songwriting awards to her credit she was simultaneously doing her cabaret shows at The Metropolitan Room, 54 Below, The Waldorf Astoria and touring in both genres : St Louis, Chicago, DC, Paris, Las Vegas .... Multiple Rave reviews have come from The NY Post and The Daily News to The New York Times and Billboard Magazine. Awards started with the Village Voice's Best Rock Newcomer and went on to everything from Best Director to Best Singer from the MAC's and Bistros to Frances The Petit Piaf . With her 7th album coming out before the end of the year combining her 2 musical worlds Koutrakos has added to her teaching workshops a Recording Workshop here in NYC. Koutrakos slipped into teaching and directing because she can't stop singing, and wont stop talking- put them together and all she wants to do when she's not singing herself is talk about doing it with everyone else. Along with her long running NYC workshop she heads up annual workshops in Chicago, Mexico and her beloved Mykonos along with pop up workshops along the way. Having always thought she had to put herself in a category to get work, or get "signed" or get where she wanted to go, she is THRILLED to be able to do it all and on her upcoming album, she is doing it with guest musicians who were on all the records she listened to growing up! She is the 2024 recipient of the Cabaret Scenes/ASA Daryl Henline Award and is happily (and newly) married to Recording Engineer Roger Lian whom she met making music. It doesn't get better than that.Lisa Yeager

10 Years of Doris Dear!
A Thank You From Doris Dear 🥰
In the midst of celebrating a decade of Doris Dear's shows, it's essential to acknowledge the deeply personal journey that birthed this remarkable chapter of my life. For Ray, this journey began with a heartache—the loss of my beloved mother, Taffy, to Alzheimer's disease.
Taffy wasn't just my mother, she was my inspiration. Watching Alzheimer's steal away Taffy's memories, her personality, and eventually her very essence was a devastating experience—one that left me feeling lost and adrift in a sea of grief.
But from the depths of sorrow emerged a flicker of resilience, a determination to honor Taffy's legacy in the most meaningful way possible. And thus, Doris Dear's journey into the spotlight was born—a tribute to the woman who had nurtured my dreams and instilled in me a love for music, laughter, and all things beautiful.
With each performance, Doris not only entertained audiences but also carried on Taffy's spirit, infusing her shows with the warmth, wit, and wisdom that had been her mother's trademark. In the spotlight, Doris found solace, healing the wounds left by loss and transforming them into something beautiful—a celebration of life, love, and the enduring power of the human spirit and in turn healed Rays heart and enriched his very soul.
Thank you, Doris, for turning my pain into purpose, my grief into grace. And thank you, Taffy, for your enduring presence, guiding and inspiring us all from beyond the stars. Together, we have created a legacy that will live on — a legacy of love, laughter, and the indomitable human spirit.
Ten years ago, Doris took her first steps onto the stage, unsure of what the future held. But with every note sung and every story told, she captivated the hearts of all who had the pleasure of witnessing her performances. Doris Dear shone brightly, a beacon of hope and joy in a world sometimes dimmed by uncertainty.
As the years passed, Doris's following grew, each show attracting new faces eager to experience the magic she conjured. Behind the scenes, there was an army of supporters, from loyal fans who never missed a performance to dedicated crew members who helped bring Doris's visions to life. Together, they formed a family bound not by blood, but by a shared love for the arts and the woman who embodied its spirit.
Today, as I celebrate a decade of Doris Dear's shows, I pause to express my deepest gratitude. To every person who bought a ticket, cheered from the audience, or spread the word about Doris's talent, thank you. Your support has been the wind beneath my wings, lifting me higher with each passing year.
To the venues that welcomed Doris with open arms, providing a stage for her to shine, I thank you. Your partnership has been invaluable, allowing me to create moments that will be cherished for a lifetime.
To the musicians who lent their talents to accompany Doris's melodies, thank you. Your harmonies added depth to her performances, elevating them to new heights of splendor.
To the crew members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, from lighting technicians to costume designers, thank you. Your dedication ensured that every detail was perfect, allowing Doris to focus on what she does best—captivating audiences with her unparalleled charisma.
As I look forward to the next chapter in Doris Dear's journey, let us carry the spirit of gratitude with us always. For it is only through the love and support of our community that we can continue to spread joy, one song, one story, one smile at a time.
And let us honor the memory of Taffy, whose spirit continues to shine brightly through Doris Dear's artistry, lighting up the world with every note sung, every story told, and every heart touched. Here's to another ten years of laughter, love, and the magic of Doris Dear. Cheers to you, dear friends, for without you, none of this would be possible.
