A Word From the Director

Welcome to Gaslight Theatre! Thank you so much for attending and supporting the arts in Enid! It is with great pleasure and excitement that I extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you to our production of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. On April 10th, 1925, F. Scott Fitzgerald published a tale that would come to be known as "'The Great American Novel." We here at Gaslight Theatre are grateful that you've chosen to spend this once-in-a-lifetime Centennial Celebration with us!

As you take your seats and step back exactly one century into this timeless piece of Americana, I encourage you to consider the relevancy of Gatsby's story to today's world. Allow yourselves to be swept away by Fitzgerald's beautiful prose, to laugh and cheer at the bombastic, devil-may-care culture of the Roaring 20s, and to contemplate the ultimate price of carelessness and clinging too tightly to the past.

Our talented cast and crew have given all of themselves and faced every challenge head-on in order to bring this tale to Gaslight Theatre's stage.
This production was made possible through the generous support of Park Avenue Thrift, TCK Wealth Management, Muncy Photography, Leonardo's Children's Museum, and countless individuals sharing their time, talents, and treasures.

This project has been one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences of my entire life. Fitzgerald himself noted that, "'Books are like brothers. I am an only child. Gatsby is my imaginary eldest brother." An only child myself, I feel a similar kinship to Jay Gatsby as a larger-than-life sibling, one requiring great care in the telling of his story.

It is my sincere hope that I've succeed in that aim, and that you enjoy the show. See you at Gatsby's, Old Sport. - Chad Swanson, Direct
