Welcome From Dundalk Community Theatre

Welcome to Dundalk Community Theatre’s 50th Anniversary season!

You may think of the John E. Ravekes Theatre as DCT’s home, but did you know this theatre actually had much humbler beginnings? It started out in the auditorium of Dundalk High School before moving to a lecture hall at Dundalk Community College that doesn’t even exist anymore. Technical Director Marc Smith was not only on hand, but he took photos documenting the construction of the College Community Center as well as this theatre.

Over the years, DCT has weathered storms (including a blizzard that cut short a run of Brighton Beach Memoirs), survived COVID (which canceled an entire weekend of Mamma Mia!), and kept a performance of Intimate Apparel running while Marc climbed out on a catwalk to fix a malfunctioning light! This spirit of resilience and resourcefulness has long been the hallmark of DCT, and contributes greatly to the accomplishment of reaching our 50th year.

From that early beginning as a vehicle to showcase and serve the Dundalk community, DCT has expanded its reach to the whole Baltimore metro region, as well as surrounding counties, Delaware, DC, and beyond. In 1996, Tom and Marc even took a production of I Do, I Do to the International Maytime Theatre Festival in Dundalk, Ireland, bringing home awards for People’s Choice, Best New Play or Company, and a Best Lighting Design award for Marc Smith.

It’s no surprise, then, that DCT has built a reputation for theatrical excellence in production after production, as well as artistic courage in producing lesser-known works of great value. Under the leadership of Tom Colonna, in partnership with Marc Smith’s design and construction expertise, the little theatre that could has offered thousands of singers, actors, and dancers a stage to perform, while giving this community a place to convene, where audiences can laugh, shed a tear, and share the experience of live art.

This anniversary season gives us an opportunity to reflect on our past, celebrate the present, and plan for our future. What’s yet to come will awaken fond memories, make you breathless with laughter, and—we hope—keep you celebrating with DCT for years to come.

Welcome to the John E. Ravekes Theatre! Welcome home!

Director's Note

It has been a thrill preparing this production for you. Fifty years of rich history is a lot to break down into a few hours; however, having some of the most amazing performers in Baltimore sharing these pieces will hopefully remind you why Dundalk Community Theatre is one of the best venues in town. Your support is vital to the future of this theatre, so please come back for the rest of the season. You won't be disappointed.
