A Note from the Director

Welcome to Attic Theatre’s production of Our House - a story about life’s choices, their consequences, and the people who help shape who we become.

When I was first asked to direct this show, I knew how important it was to find the right cast for such a fast-paced, unique musical - one that’s packed with the iconic songs of Madness. I couldn’t be more proud of this company and everything they’ve achieved over the past few months. They’ve embraced every rehearsal with energy and commitment, and their hard work shines through in every scene, every note they sing, and every step they take.

The show invites us into a world where one moment, one decision, can split a life into two very different paths. Our House is a “sliding doors” story that asks: What if you had made the other choice?

Of course, the show is filled with the catchy, toe-tapping hits we all know and love from the legendary Ska-pop band, Madness. But it’s more than just another jukebox musical. It’s a story about family - both the one we’re born into and the one we build. It’s about loyalty, community, and how the people around us influence who we become.

Whether you’re discovering the music of Madness for the first time or you’re a longtime fan, I hope this show brings you as much joy, laughter, and maybe even a few tears - as it’s brought to me. Most of all, I hope it reminds you that while we can’t always control what life throws our way, we can choose how we respond - with determination, with kindness, and, of course, with a little madness.

Enjoy the show.

A graduate of Performers College, Essex, with a diploma in Musical Theatre, Ross spent years captivating audiences worldwide as a performer for Princess Cruises. You may recognize him from his recent roles in Attic’s pantomime at the Tivoli, where he portrayed the Beast in Beauty and the Beast and Prince Elphinstone in Sleeping Beauty. Ross has thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with the incredibly talented cast of “Our House”, a fast-paced musical, and is eager for audiences to witness the energy and passion they bring to the stage.

Hannah Smith

Assistant Director
Hannah Smith - Assistant Director “Hold on a minute, is she on the right page?” You may be thinking. But yes! You might recognise this face as Hannah; normally found on stage with Attic in their festive pantomimes. This time she is delighted to be supporting from the other side for the first time as Assistant Director! Her favourite thing has been seeing the show evolve from script to stage with such an enthusiastic cast. As well as being a trusted Attic Board member who helps keep things moving throughout the year, she also finds time to hold down a day job as a secondary school teacher.

As a performer, Roy was a professional dancer in the pantomime at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness for seven consecutive years. More recently, Roy has taken on a number of different roles with Diamonte Productions in their adults-only productions in Aberdeen. As a choreographer, Roy has worked with many dance and theatre schools across the North of Scotland, choreographing for dance shows, musicals, fashion shows and competitions, to name a few. Locally, Roy has choreographed nine shows for Diamonte Productions (for five of these he was also Assistant Director). Roy has also choreographed nine professional pantomimes in places such as Inverness, Kirkcaldy and Musselburgh. Roy will be returning to the Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy this November to choreograph this year’s production of ‘Aladdin’ for Imagine Theatre.
