Director's Note

Welcome to PUNK ROCK GIRL!!!

“I believe there comes a time when everything just falls in line”. Being able to present PUNK ROCK GIRL is truly a moment when everything has just fallen in line. I saw the premiere of this show at The Argyle Theatre on Long Island, New York in February and just knew this was the perfect show for Montevallo. The message at the heart of this show is that when you speak uniquely as yourself about the things you love, you are at your most punk. I want to encourage anyone seeing this show today to find their inner-punk and muster up the courage to be your most authentic self. And to our current and future falcons-You belong at Montevallo and when you come to one of our productions, I want you to see yourself reflected back, whether that’s onstage or behind the curtain. The cast and crew of Punk Rock Girl are composed of students from varied backgrounds and identities: racially diverse students, LGBTQIA+ students, first generation students, transgender students, students with disabilities and gender non-conforming students. In our department we value those perspectives and we work to center those unique voices in the plays we present and the way those plays gets made. I hope you enjoy the show and come back to see more of our programming this season.
