Meet the Company

Malachi Short

Malachi Short - Mark Malachi Short is an Edmonton based theatre actor and singer. He’s in his third year of the BFA Musical Theatre Performance program at MacEwan University. Select credits include: Gary Coleman in Avenue Q (Foote in the Door), Ram Sweeney in Heathers: The Musical (MacEwan University), and Barry Glickman in The Prom (MacEwan University). Enjoy the show!

Vyktorya Beson

Ella
Vyktorya Beson - Ella Vyktorya is thrilled to be a part of Popstars: The 90s Musical as her first show with Bears With Knives Productions. Her most recent work includes The Addams Family Musical as an Ancestor, Proof as Catherine Llewellyn, and a new musical called The Next Step as Catherine LeBow. Vyktorya studied Musical Theatre Performance at Sheridan College. For fun, Vyktorya is a digital artist and animator with a preference for character design. She wants to thank her partner Tyler for always being there and supporting her passions.

Jeremey Zimmerman

Patrick
Jeremey Zimmerman - Patrick Jeremey is excited to be part of the wonderful cast and crew of “Popstars” where he gets to live out his boyband dreams. He grew up listening to the music in this show so it’s really wild that it’s a musical now because…he’s not even that old. He’s actually very young still, a very, very, young man. So youthful and vibrant and not suffering from lower back pain at all. Past credits include playing the role of Mike Wheeler in Darkstage Productions “Stranger Sings”, and playing the role of Tom Collins in ELOPE’s production of “Rent”. Jeremey would like to thank his husband Derek for his love and support, and for being a rapt audience during countless car concerts where the music in this show was the setlist. Enjoy the show!

Heidel Valeriano

Vinnie
Heidel Valeriano - Vinnie Heidel Valeriano is a chorister who got his start in choir at St. Benedict Elementary school in Edmonton. Fast forward to 2013 when he joined Edmonton Vocal Minority, a queer choir and enjoyed performing for the community and Pride events until 2018. Heidel is active in leading the congregation in song on Sundays. Heidel’s interest in musical theatre began when he met musical theatre peeps at Karaoke and was encouraged to try out for musicals. Heidel’s dream came true when he was offered the part of Vinnie.

Carie Fargey-Scott

Shane
Carie Fargey-Scott - Shane While Carie is an 80’s girl at heart, she’s enjoyed a trip back to the 90’s with this fantastic, immensely talented group of people. This is Carie’s third production with Bears With Knives, and she has also been involved with the Leduc Drama Society since the early 90s. She is incredibly grateful to be back performing. Biggest thanks and all my love to Phil and Abby .

Chelsea Laporte

Shannon
Chelsea Laporte - Shannon Chelsea is pumped to make her debut with Bears With Kinves playing Shannon in Popstars: The 90s Musical—a role that lets her channel all the sass, sparkle, and scheming she usually keeps to herself (mostly). Shoutout to Cody and Riley for putting up with all the vocal warmups, glitter trails, and dramatic outbursts (and that’s just everyday life. Then there’s what happens when she’s in a play). And to Erin McLean—thanks for confirming she is, in fact, the drama.

Jenn Houle

Steffi
Jenn Houle - Steffi Jenn Houle is an Edmonton based actor, dancer, singer and choreographer. She going into the final year of her BFA in musical theatre performance at MacEwan University. Her past credits include (Going) Down on Our Luck: Edmonton Fringe 2023, Glory: MacEwan University 2024 and The Prom: MacEwan University 2025.

Kenzie Barter

Tina
Kenzie Barter - Tina Kenzie (she/her) is thrilled to be back on stage! She’s previously appeared in Frozen Jr and We Will Rock You with SGCHS Performing Arts, and more. By day, she studies Education at U of A’s Campus St. Jean; by night, she belts karaoke, slings diner milkshakes, and transforms into a real-life Disney princess for kids’ parties. Performing is her passion, and she’s beyond excited to share the magic with this incredible cast and audience. Whether in a tiara or under stage lights, Kenzie brings the sparkle... and maybe a few jazz hands too.

Sunshine Mauricio

Charlie
Sunshine Mauricio - Charlie Sunshine is so pumped to be a part of this musical and to be playing a bookworm with a big voice in overalls. This show has been one big throwback to her own childhood! You may have seen Sunshine in other productions in Edmonton and Leduc, including Avenue Q (Foote-in-the-Door), We Will Rock You (Stageworks), and Freaky Friday and Cry-Baby with Leduc Drama Society. Sunshine would like to thank her family and friends for always supporting her passion for musical theatre. Enjoy the show!

Leanne Hiebert

Simon Austin
Leanne Hiebert - Simon Austin Leanne is so excited and extremely grateful to be a part of her first show with Bears with Knives Productions. Leanne has performed in over a dozen musicals with the Leduc Drama Society over the past 30 years. Most recently, she played Mrs Vernon-Williams in Crybaby, Mrs Luckinbill in Freaky Friday and Jenny Hill in Big Fish. When the amazing Erin McLean said “I have a new challenge for ya!”, Leanne jumped at the opportunity of bringing the not-so-humble Simon Austin to life (and signed up for hip-hop dance classes!). “Let’s Get Loud” and enjoy the show!

Susanne Hube

Host/Chef Joey/Coach
Susanne Hube - Host/Chef Joey/Coach Susanne is thrilled to be back on stage in Leduc after a small break. When not on stage, Susanne works as a caricaturist, illustrator and graphic designer; sings & plays piano in a band; and bakes things.

Jennifer Bilyk

Since then, Jennifer has performed with both Stageworks and LDS, and has regularly choreographed for Cathexis Theatre.

Monique Johnston

Carrie
Monique Johnston - Carrie Monique is thrilled to return to musical theatre after a brief 20-year intermission (she swears it was intentional). In recent years, she last dazzled audiences in Bears with Knives’ Divas and Dudes 90’s pop show. Despite spraining her ankle mid-rehearsal—grace under literal pressure—she limped her way to glory. Monique thanks her ice pack, her vocal cords, Advil, and whoever invented jazz hands.

Jem Toribio

Amber Shue
Jem Toribio - Amber Shue Jem Golveo Toribio is beyond excited to hit the stage with Bears With Knives Productions in Popstars: The 90s Musical! With Filipina roots and karaoke in her blood, Jem was practically born with a mic in hand and a pop anthem in her heart. This marks her debut at the Maclab Centre Theatre, and she couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity. Select stage credits include Argonautika (UofA Drama 457), The Madman and The Nun (UofA Drama 483), and Bad Hats: Peter Pan! (Citadel Theatre Young Company). You can see her next in The Witch of Edmonton, running August 14–24 at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival.

Brittany Boots Currie

The Principal/P.A/Pete

Boots is excited to be part of this production and looks forward to sharing her passion for performance with the audience in this latest show.

Leah Chiara

Being trained for/working in Film and TV, Leah wanted to try out theatre and worked hard to be part of the ensemble of this amazing show. It is not her first time on stage as she grew up dancing Polynesian dance, but it is her first time singing and dancing at the same time.
