Synopsis:
Prologue: The Christening
Princess Aurora has been born! The Queen has invited her people and fairies from across the land to celebrate the christening of baby Aurora. Led by the Lilac Fairy, the fairies all give Aurora the gifts of beauty, wit, generosity, liveliness, and intelligence.
Suddenly, Carabosse appears with her mice. She is livid that the Queen has forgotten to invite her to Aurora's christening. Carabosse is so furious that she casts a spell on Aurora to prick her finger on a spindle on her 16th birthday and die.
Everyone is distraught at this news, but the Lilac Fairy steps forward to amend Carabosse's spell. The Lilac Fairy says that Aurora will prick her finger on a spindle on her 16th birthday, but she will fall into a deep slumber instead of dying. A handsome prince will find Aurora after a hundred years to awaken her with true love's kiss.
Enraged that her spell has been diminished, Carabosse and her mice leave.
Act 1: Aurora's Sixteenth Birthday
The day has come to celebrate Aurora's sixteenth birthday. She is so elated that it is her birthday that she dances and dances and dances.
Suddenly an old woman appears at her party with a bouquet of flowers. While Aurora is delighted, the Queen is wary of this gift from a stranger. As Aurora is showing her guests the beautiful bouquet, she pricks her finger on a spindle that is hidden amongst the flowers. She collapses, causing everyone to worry. The Lilac Fairy steps in to remind everyone that she has not died, but she has fallen into a deep slumber. The Lilac Fairy then puts the kingdom to sleep as they await a Prince find and awaken Princess Aurora.
Act 2: The Vision and Awakening
A hundred years has passed since the Lilac Fairy has put the kingdom to sleep. While on a hunt, Prince Désiré is enchanted by the Lilac Fairy and sees a vision of Aurora dancing. Instantly falling in love, Prince Désiré begs the Lilac Fairy to take him to meet Princess Aurora.
The Lilac Fairy brings Prince Désiré to Aurora. He meets the sleeping Princess Aurora with a kiss, which breaks Carabosse's spell. Aurora is awoken, and she and Prince Désiré are in love.
Act 3: The Wedding
The entire kingdom gathers to celebrate the nuptials of Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré. After Puss in Boots and The White Cat, Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, and Princess Florine (Bluebird) share their stories, the Garland Dancers rejoice.
Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré celebrate their wedding with a beautiful pas de deux and the kingdom is overjoyed.
