Director's Note:
I first saw "Spring Awakening" when I was 21. My sister, who is actually in this show, took me to NYC for my 21st birthday (side note - I do not like NYC). Last minute we got tickets to see this show called "Spring Awakening" that we knew nothing about. I remember at intermission we looked at each other and I knew what we were both thinking, "what the hell did we just witness?!" It was theatrical mastery. It felt like we were literally run over by raw emotion. The cast was wrecking us. This is why I tell this story and have several times before.
Fast forward to now. These two casts are the most resilient, passionate and trusting people I have worked with. I can't wait for you to see them shine. They believe in me. They believe in my family. They believe in the importance of this story. Through grief and outrageous rage, my family has persevered to bring this show to life. These actors are a huge part of why we fought so hard to start FIND YOUR LIGHT. Serving our community through the creative outlet of theatre is our calling.
I hope these actors can learn from our trials during the run of this show. Stand up. Be the change. Do your part to empathize and connect. Have your own mind. Speak up when needed and listen to what is between the lines. You are always stronger than you know.
Selfishly, I dedicate this show to my niece Camryn. Since a young age I have seen you yearn to be one of the "older actors" so you can push yourself dancing, sing difficult songs and tell the stories that are harder to tell. You took a stand, along with many other beautifully strong souls I am indebted to forever, and I saw this show get taken from you. Taken from so many. You have been through things that no one should ever have to. Be the voice that people need to hear. You are the light of the world.
To this cast, crew and to you audience members, I will remember this show always. This is the "little show that COULD". We fought for this magic, so please sit back and let this cast run you over by raw emotion.
Humbly Yours,
Brittany Grim
