Harken back to the days of radio, actors' voices coming through the radio creating the scene that would capture your attention and take you away for a half hour, minus the commercial breaks. From Dick Tracy to Amos and Andy, suspense and laughter were created by the voices heard over the airways. This show is a chance to be in the studio and watch the creative process happen in real time. Each actor portrays an actor, creating a character in the radio program. The actors themselves also create the sound effects, musical transitions, and commercials.
Just as with any performance, developing distinct characters is vital to the show and it may be even more so in this production, as most actors portray more than one! Distinct voices, accents, and speech patterns help to distinguish between each role, and make for an entertaining show brought to you by the 9 actors on the stage and one recorded voice. Watch for the APPLAUSE sign to remind you of your role as an audience member in the studio. You could close your eyes and imagine you're sitting on the floor next to you Firestone Air Chief Console tube radio, but you'll miss some of the fun of watching the interactions and sound effects, so take a look, please do, and enjoy the show!

Meet the Company
Breanna Christensen
Breanna has spent numerous hours performing on stage between dancing, singing, acting, and playing music throughout her seventeen years. She has played diverse roles while in Richmond-Burton’s theatre ranging from a troubled housewife, to a sinful nun, and even to a murderer. In her seventh and final production at RB, Breanna takes on the role of writing the music for the commercial jingles and recording herself singing them. After performing in each production during her high school years, she is sad she must take her final bow.
Katlyn Hall
Katlyn has appeared in over 5 theatre productions at RBCHS. You may have seen her in The Little mermaid as a fish, Web of Murder part of the crew, Disaster as a passenger, and lucky stiff part of the crew as well, to name just a few. Katlyn is ending her senior user doing something she loves at RBCHS. She would love to think her mom and dad for working with her schedule and to the rest of the cast for being amazing moral support and keeping it safe and fun for everyone.
Gianna Johnson
Gianna Johnson is very excited to be a part of this year's show, The 39 Steps. She has participated in two other productions in 2019 and 2020, Radium Girls and Lucky Stiff. She usually gets a variety of background/extra roles, but she enjoys being part of the show in any way she can by helping the crew and acting whenever possible. Gianna can't wait for everyone to see the production and is excited to watch it all come together.
Ricky Johnson
Ricky is a senior at RBCHS and has been involved in some way in each RB Drama club production since his freshman year. He has worked backstage as well as on-stage as an actor. This year he plays Stage Manager, Conductor, George, Police 1, and Man 1 on the Aberdeen Express in RB's production of The 39 Steps. Ricky is very excited to be a part of a production this year and hopes you enjoy the show.
Kiley Kennedy
Kiley is a junior and has been a part of RB drama ever since her freshman year. Kiley will be playing original accordion music as well as playing the role of Annabella, a secret foreign spy. She has been involved in both cast and crew. During her freshman year, she was stage crew and she played as a twin of herself in Disaster the musical. Sophomore year, she played Nancy Jane Harlen in Radium Girls and she played Rita LaPorta in Lucky Stiff. The role of Annabella has been a great opportunity for Kiley to learn better voice inflections and practice accents. She can’t wait to show you all what The 39 Steps really are.
Cody Klimek
This is Cody's 7th and final show with RB Drama. In the past he has played roles in Lucky Stiff, Radium Girls, Disaster, Web of Murder, The Little Mermaid, and Oz. Cody is very excited to conclude his performing career and hopes you will enjoy the show. He would like to thank his mom and sister for always encouraging him to do drama. Cody would also like to thank all of his fellow cast-mates from this show and every show he's had the opportunity to be part of, the experiences and memories made would not have been possible without them.
Tanner Mackey
Tanner Mackey is a Junior in his 3rd show. He is glad to be back in drama club and acting once again. He is excited for all of the families and friends of the cast and crew to see the amazing production of The 39 Steps.
Megan Lynn Miltimore
This is Megan's first time participating in the cast of a production at Richmond Burton Community High School. She made the poster for last year's production of Lucky Stiff and was honored to have created the poster for this year's production too. Megan has enjoyed every part of creating this play through these crazy COVID times and is excited to see everyone enjoy it.
Xander Novak
This is Xander's 4th year in the RB Drama Department and his final show with the department. He has done everything from major roles to stage crew and has enjoyed every year. He is super excited for everyone to him and all of his lovely cast mates in this year's production of The 39 Steps. Xander would like to thank Ms. Kane and Mr. Lyon for helping him progress as a actor over the past 4 years. He would also like to thank all of the past cast members he has had the privilege of working with. Finally, he hopes everyone enjoys the show!
Amelia Persons
Amelia is thrilled to be a part of RB's production of The 39 Steps. You may recognize Amelia from her past roles in Radium Girls as Grace Fryer and Lucky Stiff as Annabel Glick. Despite this crazy year, she is glad be able to act on stage with her castmates once again. She hopes you enjoy the (radio) show!
Diane Kane
In addition to teaching Chemistry, Diane has been a part of theatre productions at Richmond-Burton since 2006 and this is her 30th show at RB. She began directing at Yorkwood Community High School as an assistant to the directors, and became a part of the directing team at RB with Seussical: The Musical in the spring of 2006. In the past decade, Diane has directed many Disney musicals including Beauty And The Beast and Mary Poppins, as well as classics such as The Diary of Anne Frank and You Can't Take It With You. Working with some great collaborators over the years, and some talented students, Diane has enjoyed all aspects of a production: creating the set, watching the characters come to life, designing lighting, and seeing all the hard work come to fruition.

Director's Notes
After over a year not being on the stage, the students and myself were delighted to return for another production at RB. Giving these students, many of whom are performing for the last time on this stage, the opportunity to create has given all of us a chance to return to something that truly gives us life. Selecting a show with flexible casting, allowing for students to participate in person and remote, was key in my mind to make the most of this production. The added feature of the students creating the music and sound effects live on stage also made this show an interesting choice.
These students came to the table ready to tackle this new task-speaking with masks and accents, setting the scene with their voices and background noises. The students worked collectively to help one another dive into their characters and distinguish them from one another. After each run through, the students shared comments about the show, feedback and suggestions, and it was all done in a very collaborative way. One of my favorite rehearsals involved those conversations and it was evident that everyone was contributing to the overall production in a way I haven't experienced with a cast for quite a while.
Special thanks go to my parents for their ideas for props and their continued encouragement and support. Big thanks to Mr. Lyon for assisting with auditions and casting of the show. Also thanks to Mrs. Tumminello for a great suggestion for creating the microphones and assistance with recording. Thanks to Mr. Vaisler for his assistance with the camera for recording the show and to Simran Patel for the final recording. Thank you to the RB Administration and School Board for allowing a production to occur this year. And of course, thanks to the students who spent their time these past 5 weeks rehearsing lines and accents, sound effects and backstories for the actors they portray. It has truly been great to work with you! I hope you enjoy the show!
