Producers’ Note

When we first started developing The King & I, and Paul in 2021, we could not have anticipated the journey this piece would go through to end up here at the 30 Minutes or Less Festival. Originally intended for film, we eventually decided to bring this story to our theatre roots and develop it for the stage. After an award-winning run at the 2023 Hollywood Fringe Festival, we are thrilled to bring the show back with fresh edits and brand new scenes at the Steph Feury. 

At Sunny Gingham, we strive to create quality theatre that melds our love of film technique with our passion for live performance. King has all the ingredients of a classic sitcom, and challenging ourselves on how to capture the farcical, slapstick charm seen in shows like I Love Lucy while keeping our story grounded has brought us immense joy. 

In a time where our beautiful city is hurting, we hope to bring our community a bit of respite and laughter as we all navigate what’s to come. We love you, LA, and we are so thankful to call this place home and to do what we love here as artists.

Meet the Gang

Matthew Namik

Paul

Matthew Namik is an artist based in Los Angeles, whose work spans acting, directing, producing, and scenic design. Matthew has been seen most recently in Sidereal Productions’ Angels in America as Joe Pitt. His other theatre credits include George Gibbs in Our Town, Lenny in Rumors, Curly in Of Mice and Men, and Various Roles in The Laramie Project. As co-founder of Theatre and Film company, Sunny Gingham, Matthew has also written and produced original plays, including the award-winning Our American Tragedy and The King & I, and Paul. Alongside his stage work, Matthew is best known for his role in The Arbor Company's Original Amazon Series, Here Comes Your Man, as Dustin. Matthew is very excited to be bringing this hilarious play back to the Stephanie Feury for the 30 Minutes or Less Fest!

Angelique Fustukjian

Susan

Angelique Fustukjian is a Los Angeles-based artist and co-founder of Sunny Gingham. Most recently, Angelique starred as Harper in Sidereal Productions’ Angels in America: Parts 1 & 2, and in 2024 she co-wrote, produced, and starred in the award-winning play, Our American Tragedy, at the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival. She is also a 2-year acting veteran of 14/48 Hollywood. Other theatre credits include “Laura Keene” in Our American Tragedy (2024), “Wickersham” in Seussical (2023), “Restaurant Man” in RENT (2022), “Kit Kat Fritzie” in Cabaret (2022), and “Cookie” in Rumors (2019), among others. In addition, she is a series regular on the scripted podcast, Cryptid Cape. Angelique is thrilled to be bringing this wacky play back to Hollywood!

Emilio Rodríguez

Germano (Papai)

Emilio is excited to reprise his role as Germano in The King & I, and Paul. A graduate of the University of Arizona’s Theatre Arts program, his past stage credits include Biedermann in The Arsonists and touring internationally with A Song for the World. Offstage, Emilio produces Beargarden, a queer market and entertainment series that celebrates body positivity, queer commerce, and community impact. He is honored to share this story with such an incredible cast and creative team at Sunny Gingham.

Wayne Remington

Director

Wayne Remington is so excited to bring The King & I, and Paul back to The Stephanie Feury. He directed this for the Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2023 and couldn’t be happier to be back with this cast. Directing is one of many things Wayne does. He has graced the stage in many shows, but some recent favorites include Guys and Dolls (Nathan Detroit), Rent (Mark Cohen), and Little Women (Laurie). He is also in a few shows right now including Bare: A Pop Opera, Rent, and Newsies which you can follow along with at his Instagram.

Isaac Rodriguez

Sound Designer

Isaac Rodriguez is an audio engineer and musician in Los Angeles, California. He’s involved in many aspects of audio, including recording & mixing, sound design, podcasting, and live productions. It’s his passion for audio, and ability to adapt, that have allowed him to appreciate and work within a variety of projects and environments. He also creates musical works under I.S.A.A.C., which blends his love of rock, hip-hop, folk, and Mexican music.

Ethan ‘Carlos’ Cameron

Stagehand

Ethan ‘Carlos’ Cameron is an interdisciplinary performing artist originally from Washington State. Since moving to LA, he’s acted on stage and screen, as well as released and performed original music. This is his second time helping bring The King & I, and Paul to life for Sunny Gingham.
