About the Music Man

By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic and touching, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best. Meredith Willson's six-time, Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957 and is a family-friendly story to be shared with every generation.

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.

About Portsmouth Christian Academy

At PCA, you will find a God-centered theatre program where students explore concepts through a Christian worldview. They pray together and seek to glorify God through both time and talent. Skills developed are life skills: teamwork, memorization, public speaking, analyzing literature, and learning technical skills. Students grow in perseverance, discipline, and self-esteem as they learn how to act, design, and run all aspects of a production. Students work in community with other students and family members, resulting in productions they are proud of, and that bless the wider community. For musicals, PCA musicians are often involved in the pit orchestra as well as on stage.

PCA typically hosts two productions each year: a fall show with actors in grades 4-12, and a spring musical for students in grades 6-12. PCA's Upper School Students also compete with a one-act play at the NHETG Festival each year. Recent shows include Little Women, The Little Mermaid, Guys and Dolls, Mary Poppins, Secret Garden, Cinderella, I Never Saw Another Butterfly, Newsies, and Honk Jr.

We welcome you to keep up with PCA theatre on our website, social media, and by joining our email list! To receive the most recent updates about PCA performances, please email vbazile@pcaschool.org to be added to the list.
