Wyeth was just 20 years old when he turned down an official commission to paint a posthumous portrait of President Kennedy — instead he made the painting on his own terms. Unusual, intimate and intense, it was rejected by some in the Kennedy family and sparked public outcry.
The portrait is now widely considered an iconic masterpiece and is part of the permanent collection at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts.
Based on historical records and personal conversations with the artist, the play tells an all too timely story about family, politics, art, agency and the weight of truth.
Roles will be performed solo by the playwright as a workshop, in its first public production.

On opening night only, Jamie Wyeth will join Shannon after the show to discuss the play in the context of his lifetime of making unflinching work that challenges its audience to notice, if not revel in all that is truthful and unusual in the people, places and objects around us. The audience will be invited to ask questions.
